First was the study permit, now it's the permanent residency - Canada is indeed changing the system of international student program!

5:33 International students should remind themselves that they are nonimmigrants and have no right to demand the Government permanent residence by protesting nor are they entitled or guaranteed PR status. They should know what they signed up for. These protesters had a delusion of high expectation to a false perception that Canadian Immigration is obliged to surely grant them PR status. Such may be a possibility for some, if not only a few, but never a guarantee to all. They should get over it. Protesting will only piss off Canadians and the Government which just may expedite their deportation. Just remember that.

That's a misconception about being on a student pathway, it is meant for you to learn and just to study here in Canada not for being a Permanent Resident here.
@USA-CANADA1480

I agree, and the problem is that the Canadian immigration has given student visas “dual intent” which gives applicants too much of a high expectations for permanent residency, which, while may be a possibility for some, not a guarantee for all. Canada should remove the dual intent allowability. This doesn’t fly in the United States. Once a student, always a student. Then they go home.

In fact even countries like india where many students come from don't offer permanent residency to foreigners either. It takes 7-11 years to become an indian citizen. Same thing with places like Singapore, thailand and japan.

In my opinion student visa program is not supposed to be a back door to immigration. This is supposed to , you’re coming to a country to study, like Canadian do. They went to Harvard University or Yale U to study not to intent to express immigrating to that country. I’m sorry to say A lot of International students abuse the system. No wonder the Government changed the policy..

Since 2020, international students have been flocking to a educational system that many Canadians now feel was used (by many of them) as a loophole-to-immigration. Students utilizing schooling as a back-door (not front-door) ticket to living in Canada. Swarming a 50+ year tradition/system that was not not NOT designed to be about EVERY international student expecting Permanent Residency ... plus it was not designed to be primarily about students expecting lengthy work permits (& spouse permits). Canadians have clued in that Canada's post secondary education system has (in 4 years time) turned into what many are now jokingly calling EDUGRATION. Plus 'edugration' (public or private) was NEVER approved by everyday Canadians. Plus what about Ghost Consulting that Canada told India to halt? Canadians want the $ greedy agents in other countries to stop MARKETING & LYING to their own people about access to PR or citizenship … or accommodation/jobs … in places like Canada being relatively easy (to get). And for any people living in western countries to be ashamed of themselves if they're getting greedy too. Anyone doing things to make $ off of people's PR desires. At best, there is a 25% chance of gaining PR (better odds if you are masters/medicine etc.). What about all the YT videos that primarily Indian nationals post (for over half a decade now) all advertising Canadian PR like they're selling or critiquing a product. Videos not only posted HOURLY ... but also not in English or French. With no input from actual Canadian-born citizens, within their mass-marketing. Are most international students truly scholars who came to Canada with enough $ to support themselves while STUDYING like they are supposed to? Or more-so economic migrants, who BORROWED $ to buy their way closer to the head of the immigration line? To say all the students or their consultants back home have not been at times 'gaming' Canada's education programs to gain western PR or $ is ridiculous. Students have contributed to Canada's housing CRISIS because 97% came-to-stay … not just visit with their temporary STUDY permit. This extreme NEVER existed at schools 4+ years ago. What about the IELTS spouses? Anchor babies? Fraud? False asylum claims? What about Canadian food banks & charity services being recklessly advertised on YT in Indian languages? What about Canadian housing being scooped up en-mass as investment vehicles by/for internationals? What about home rental/boarding signs stating "vegetarians only can apply"? What about some Indian nationals buying local businesses then putting Indians only in the key positions while also drastically changing work practices that include working longer hours for less $ and at times The Caste System? Canadians are worried due to witnessing these things firsthand more & more often. Even in small towns. Then throw in the Sikh vs Hindu violence/extortions across Canada. Diasporas stirring up tribal hatreds (in Canada) … even though it all stems from their ancestral home. How can peace be found anywhere with this in play? Plus the Canadian government recently launched investigations in regards to foreign interference in Canadian elections. All stemming from Asia continent. Canadians are so so so not used to all this. So many, who have embraced multi-culturalism and immigration for decades are now VERY worried and fearful. All are praying it doesn't turn into great anger. Canadians want multi-culturism to succeed and for all people (including immigrants) to be okay. Everyone I know is VERY happy with IRCC's recent changes (reductions & multifaceted investigations etc.). Including multi-generational long-term Asian-Canadians where many have been the MOST upset (by all of this). Canadians are aware that some great students are going through hell. And know Canada is partially to blame which hurts Canadian hearts. But bottom-line, Canada decides what needs to be done in Canada. Do you see Canadians protesting in other countries (that is not their own) making demands for themselves? No. Do Canadians now see primarily South Asians protesting in Canada, making demands (due to IRCC pumping it's immigration brakes because it REALLY HAS TO)? Yes. If 36,000,000 Canadians travelled to India, since 2020, with the primary goal of being able to stay there permanently, that would raise India's population by 2.65%. Recent asylum seekers crossing into Canada… and especially international students... have raised Canada's population higher than 2.65%. Changes (& deportations) are occurring in 2024, for HUGE reasons. In Canada, UK, Australia, USA, and other western countries too. PS: Did international students and their families pay into Canadian taxes ALL their lives like domestic students have (so they can pay cheaper tuition fees)? No. Did Canada force internationals to move to Canada as a student? No. Did Canada promise/guarantee PR? Or a job? No & no. Yet do specific students only blame Canada when they can't get PR????🤔

I think it's more about blaming the govt because of not setting up a proper system like the US. You gotta admit it was the CA govt's fault as well. They literally got in such trash people (sorry not sorry, I'm an Indian but the people I see here are nowhere to the standards of those in the US) and then you wonder why it's so terrible and it's like India 2.0? Like why couldn't they have checked fraudulent documents more properly like their neighbor or be stricter with immigration? And yeah nothing about the fees cause I guess these Indians have no clue how much Indian universities and colleges charge for foreign nationals in India as well like charging 5x the normal fees. So like that's pretty normal I would say, a generic rule for every country benefiting their citizens or residents.

I'm surprised that both BC & Alberta are still opening the tech sector for PNP. I am aware of individuals that have vast experience in this sector (software engineer, software developer) back in the Phil. that have been applying for work for their respective fields for some time now but still couldn't even manage to land an interview. Basically, there are hundreds of applicants for every single job available.

One of students took 6 months to land a job in IT sector in Vancouver, there are some jobs but not too many to support all the graduates and residents here, so hopefully the recent changes on student visa will slow down the growth of temporary residents.

in short: 1. Canada plans changes to the Post-Graduate Work Permit (PGWP) to tackle labour shortage. 2. From Sept 1 2024, students in private colleges will no longer automatically qualify for PGWP and for private universities it depends on ur course that u have taken. 3. From September 1, 2024, international students starting a study programme under a curriculum licencing arrangement will no longer be eligible for a PGWP. 4. The permit's duration ranges from eight months to three years, depending on the length of the student’s study programme. 5. Make sure your passport is valid for the entire length of time you should be eligible for pgwp.

Thanks for your valuable information. Would appreciate it if you kindly suggest some issues. Very recently we are hearing that PGWP rules will be again going to change to be applicable to all post graduate students except a few degrees that are in high demand in Canada like IT, Health care and construction. I have enrolled in the 1 years masters program in organisational management at Crandall university, Moncton New Brunswick for upcoming January 2025 intake and I have already been approved with my study permit as well as visa. I have already paid a partial tuition fee too at the university to secure my admission. Now I am really worried whether I will also be impacted by the new rules that IRCC is going to declare soon for the international graduate students regarding PGWP. In fact earlier my intention was after doing even 1 years masters I am going to get a 3 years work permit that will lead me to be eligible for PR. Now I would like to seek your assistance and suggestions on what I should do. Looking forward to hearing from you soon. Thank you very much. Joy.

Noticed the price of LMIA $20-$50k which is only $1k. Filipino culture of FAVOURITISM in accepting applicants or employees reason why it’s hard to get job in Canada & most Filipino in the Philippines want to work abroad .

They should just give opportunity those people who are inside to prove they are worth it. PGWP gives you that chance but not guaranteed whuch everyine knows that. There are existing problems (job, housing, crime, etc) they need to solve which is understandable. Ironically, there are still many holes how people can get in (tourist visa looking for jobs, outland migrants not inline with targeted draws, etc). There are inconsistencies with their policies. But in the end of the day, Canada is their country, hope this doesnt lean towards student program hate or people who seeks genuine opportunity.
