Hello Chaps Thank you so much for that interesting video. I am sailing from England to Boston and then onwards to Quebec and then back to England- total of 25 days at sea. I am on Sky Princess and perhaps some passengers will board from Boston which would be nice. Thanks for the tip for taking local currency. I will be stocking up on Canadian dollars for sure. Have been to Canada before so have seen the autumn colours and I know how beautiful it is. I also love lobster!!!! So, thanks again and Happy Trails.

Great video! My husband and I are going in early October. We're sailing from Brooklyn, NY, and it's an 11-night roundtrip on MSC Meraviglia. We're trying to figure out what to do in Sydney and Charlottetown. We like history, old houses, museums, things like that.
@askarealtravelexpert
@askarealtravelexpert 11 ай бұрын
If you like history, and depending how long you are in port in Sydney, it is our recommendation to find an excursion or tour of Fort Louisburg which is about a half-hour distant. Wear warm clothing (jacket/hat) plus good walking shoes as it can suffer from the cold Atlantic winds even in-summer.(If you are in Sydney on a weekend after Oct 10 it may not be open.) There is lots to do in Charlottetown just on your own: Confederation Centre, Beaconsfield (museum), Province House, shopping, etc. If you go further afield on a tour be sure to visit the "north shore" and Green Gables Heritage Place. Traveling through the countryside, you will also be able to take in the colorful foliage. Wherever you visit in the Maritimes, be sure to have a feed of mussels and lobster. PEI also has great oysters. Here's to great voyage, hope it's all you wish it to be.

Bar Harbor is terrific, but the other common port is Portland, Maine. We live close to Portland Harbor and we tend to get two cruise ships a day starting in September. Smaller cruise ships and occasional large one in summers. Casco Bay and the Old Port area a few steps from the ship are the primary attractions. Island tours and Lobster Bakes are typical excursions.

@@askarealtravelexpert Mostly NCL and RC. Occasional Celebrity, Carnival and HAL. Almost daily, the little ships from American Cruise Line and the other line similar. Viking, Silverseas and another luxury line maybe twice a year. Today, an Oceana was docking and had an explosion in the engine room. One crewman injured and evacuated the ship.

Great information! We're taking Princess on September 29th from New York for the 7 day New England/Canada cruise. We chose Princess because we had to renew our passports in July, and we've yet to get them. The Princess cruise leaves and returns to New York. Since it's a "closed loop" cruise, we CAN leave the ship in Canada without passports, as long as we have certified birth certificates and valid id's with us. Not taking any chances. I'm assuming our passports will be back in time since we mailed the renewals on July 2nd. My husband and I were both History majors, so we're very excited! Third trip to Canada, but not this region.

Really eager to see Quebec City on our cruise in September. Just wondering, do you have any information, or does anyone, about how the wildfires in Canada might affect (or are affecting) cruises this year? Can't believe there is relatively no information about this topic. Thank you for your response.
@askarealtravelexpert
@askarealtravelexpert Жыл бұрын
I would not worry to much about the wildfires. The smoke tends to be in northern Quebec and would not affect Quebec City other then perhaps making things hazy on a particularly bad day which there have been none of late. The weather patterns this year have been different sweeping the worst of the smoke when there is smoke down into the New York area and missing all of the ports visited by a Canada New England itinerary.

How good is vision of the seas rc ship for New England cruise
@askarealtravelexpert

Kind of depends what you are looking for in a cruise ship. Vision is a good size for the Canada New England route and it’s two acres of glass may lend itself to some great viewing opportunities in the St Lawrence. At 2050 passengers she will also have more onboard activities then some of the smaller ships on the route.

Just had a look at the itinerary if I have the right itinerary it begins September 9th in Quebec City with an overnight. The ship departs Quebec City on September 10. You are arriving late on the ninth. It should be a simple matter of contacting the cruise line give them your booking number and advise them of the late check in.

Uhhh, "there is nowhere to go once you are in Montreal"??? What about the lakes? That is where it really gets fun, and of course there are lots of lake- cruises, including seeing Niagara Falls, and visiting Toronto, Detroit, Chicago, Milwaukee! Does a German need to come along to tell you that??
@askarealtravelexpert
@askarealtravelexpert Жыл бұрын
You are right Montreal is a vibrant city with lots to see and do. On the other hand visiting Niagara Falls, 668 kilometers distant and Toronto 550 kilometers distant from Montreal is tough to do unless you fly into Montreal a few days early or schedule a post cruise extension. Here's a plan, after you debark in Montreal hop a quick flight to Toronto and pick up one of Viking's Expedition Ships Toronto to Milwaukee touring the Great Lakes and Niagara Falls. Would be a dandy way to see a lot more of this great land.
