I've got a lot of big game in my life but my dream was always to have an opportunity to shoot a caribou. Will it happen probably not but I live my big game hunting experience vicariously doing so through your Channel. 😉👌

Glad to see Nunavut still has their BG Bou hunting tourism going still. The NWT shut that down because the Bathurst herd has been decimated since the late 90's. Resident hunters here are only allowed 1 bull, and only in a certain zone. You won't get any bulls with decent headgear either as they've already dropped their antlers. Essentially it's just meat hunting, which is the reason to shoot them in the first place anyway. Lots of poaching happening since the pandemic too though, so far the numbers are looking to be higher than last year, which saw almost 100 animals illegally harvested.

And I thought that Caribou is protected... No wonder that numbers are going down.

Caribou are abundant there. They are an important part of the food supply in the north. That caribou fed multiple families. The license to harvest that caribou was issued by the government who pays biologists to monitor and study populations to ensure sustainability

@@canadaintheroughtv I understand Native people hunting Caribou. This is their live-hood. But if you see latest numbers population has declined yet again. So perhaps it makes sense to stop killing them or at least do not popularize the activity over the internet. My father was a hunter until he wasn`t . One day he hang his rifle and said " If we keep on doing it. None will be left." To keep population of Caribou up they are neutering wolfs. Both spiecies are suffering. How anyone can keep on shooting them? Everything wants to live

Caribou harvest is managed by governments in the provincial or territorial jurisdictions they live in. They decide how many are hunted each year, with the exception of indigenous harvest. Newfoundland has shown growth in caribou populations two years in a row

@@canadaintheroughtv And statistics don`t lie. It doesn`t matter who gave permission to kill them. They would have even bigger growth if people stopped selling their skin hunt. You can do so many things as a hunter dart animal take picture with it and go on your merry way. Almost the same as killing it but not quite. You can do wildlife photography, you can shoot target instead of animals. Killing is killing and it is a waste of animals life . Sorry it does not matter who gave you green light you, are the one who asked and paid for permit. I never said that you did something illegal . But legal doesn`t mean moral either.

@@canadaintheroughtv Pick of Caribou in Newfoundland was in 90`s. Ever since number declined. Even if in last two years number went slightly up it is still far from it could be. When I walk my dog statistically we have 3 legs each. Canada lost 4herds out of 17. Perhaps is better relocate Caribou, stop killing it alltogether.
