I think you're being punked lol I live in Canada and that is the worst candy selection ever! hahaha I love McIntosh toffee... but while it's still in the pack you smack it on a table to break it up... it's buttery and delicious. Popeyes cigarettes and Fun Dip are things we kids rotted our teeth with in the 70's... pure sugar and ascorbic acid. Love Hearts were always my favourite...another tooth rotter.

As a Canadian I’d like to apologize for Elizabeth sending you the worst shit, most of it is stuff that only little kids eat or is actually American like the twizzlers and the Hershey chocolate bars. That is not a good representation of Canadian treats except for the Macintosh toffee which I used to eat all the time when I was a kid yoga shatter it into smaller pieces on suck on it.

Elizabeth, I appreciate your candy selection and the effort it took to send the package their way. Most of the stuff I recognized as American, but I enjoyed the gimmick candies and the nostalgia. And root beer is derived from sassafras which is a root like ginger, maybe even in the same family, but different. It's considered a old west thing. Or at least to me, but excellent in soda form in making root beer floats. Actual root beer is nasty to me, but that's a soda preference thing and not so much a nation thing

I'm Canadian, and I absolutely agree that the Twizzlers are practically inedible. Those rainbow ones are absolute garbage. They make more standard flavours as well (strawberry, cherry, etc.) and they are MUCH better.

I’m Canadian (British Columbia, so West Coast) and here is my hot take: 1.) those root beer candies - never heard of her 2.) strawberry/mint Hershey chocolate bars - never heard of her 3.) rainbowTwizzlers - a disgusting bastardization of regular strawberry twizzlers that no one buys and honestly I never see them in stores - yuck 4.) sour smog balls - NEVER HEARD OF HER WTF 5.) Trollee hotdog/hamburgers - only small children eat those and they’re gross 6.) Goodies candy coated licorice - NO ONE BUYS THOSE. Literally I rarely see those in stores. No one likes those shits except seniors maybe. 7.) McIntosh Toffee - only old people eat this. No one buys this either. It IS tasty but traditionally you put it in the freezer so that you can shatter it into smaller pieces. Too much work imo. 8.) Lotsa Fizz Candies - most of us like those but they’re a cheap candy that is honestly kind of hard to find 9.) dino-sours - never heard of them 10.) love hearts - they’re ok I guess but NO ONE BUYS THESE they are cheap filler candy for Valentine’s Day 11.) Root beer, actually one of my favorite Sodas. Ginger beer and root beer are totally different, and i have never found a single root beer candy that tastes like actual root beer-it's all bad. My favorites, if you have them there are A&W, Barqs, Faygo Root beer, and IBC. :)

People outside North America think Hershey's chocolate tastes like vomit for a very good reason. You can't just use milk to make chocolate. There's far too much water in milk and chocolate isn't really a fan of water. So you have to remove some or all of the water. Back in the day, Nestle produced their chocolate using dehydrated milk (i.e. powdered milk) while Cadbury used condensed milk (milk that has had some of the water boiled off). But Hershey's had a problem. When they tried to produce condensed milk to produce chocolate the way Cadbury did they kept burning it. They tried over and over again and eventually came up with a process that used a lower temperature (so they didn't burn it) and a vacuum to draw off some of the water content. The funny thing is when you heat milk to a certain temperature in the absence of oxygen (like in a vacuum chamber) before being killed by the heat, bacteria in the milk produce butyric acid. Butyric acid is what gives Hershey's chocolate its distinctive flavour. Now whether they know it or not everyone knows what butyric acid tastes like because it's one of the components of vomit. That distinctive vomit taste that you can not get rid of after you throw up? That's butyric acid. Hershey's chocolate tastes like vomit because it literally has one of the components of vomit in it. If you grew up eating Hershey's chocolate you'll associate butyric acid with chocolate so it won't taste like vomit to you, it will taste like chocolate. But if you didn't grow up eating it and you eat it as an adult it will most likely taste like vomit to you because we don't put butyric acid in any other foods. Not at levels you can taste anyway. Why? Because it would make them taste like vomit.

Yup, root beer pretty much is the same as dandelion and burdock. It's usually a little softer and sweeter. I love it personally. I'm old and I'm sure I can remember that it used to be available at McD's in UK when I was a kid but then one day it just vanished as an option. But maybe I dreamed that.
