For those that are making fun of the training you see in the video, this is not actually "army training" this is armed forces entry training for all new members of the forces whether in army, navy, air force. Personal go on to more intense training depending on the trade they picked.

Best thing I ever did. I put in two tours with a total of 8.5 years. I got out at the end of the first gulf war in 92. I still miss the service to this day. Once a Soldier always a soldier.

for those that think this course is a cakewalk, it isn't. This and my BMQ Land were the 2 toughest courses, if you're not in peak physical condition it is brutal, I learned that the hard way. Your instructors instead of playfully punching your shoulder, will essentially make you're life a living hell. They want to weed out people, for example my course started off with 45 and we graduated with 18. BMQL was a different story we had 45 and lost 3 but 2 were due to injury, a broken leg and blown knee. It is important to have a good mindset and to never give up no matter how hard it gets. Once you're done you can look back and realize how far you've come and have a sense of accomplishment.

Respect to you mr. lam. Regardless if you were last or not. You still made it bro. So respect to you sir✊ it takes a strong mind to get through this sort of training.

Did this many years ago and was an amazing accomplishment. congrats to the new blood who have done the same.

3 years in sofar as an air craft structures tech. we had our course outsourced to ENA in st Hubert Quebec so we had to live on the ST jean garrison for a year and bus there and back... however we did have wifi and staff gym, cafeteria, etc. if you have any question or concerns I can probably answer them lol.

I'm incredibly excited for the coming months. Just went through my interview and am hoping for an offer soon. BMQ, you're next!

Nice me too i still have 5 years to go until i graduate grade 12. I am going to start training in grade 9 to make sure i am ready and also start to wake up earlier to change my eternal body clock. Also get good grades stay in school and research the job you have in mine. I want to be an infantry so i have to make sure im ready. I am going to apply as soon as i graduate so ya. ohDannyBoiii Yea the Canadian forces only have 68k troops all together and their training is pretty outdated even when they go to tech school for their specific job after their BMQ they still don't even get field training on those situations, it is also odd that they have a specific job to enlist for for being in the honor guard band. In the u.s you have to do basic combat training where you train as infantry then have to go to training for your MOS and honor guard band is extracurricular done by anybody in any MOS because it's voluntary and its temporary and not an actual job. I agree they need to have seperate basic training for seperate branches and not to keep comparing it to the u.s but here the navy recruits are trained how to take control of situations on a ship by simulations and field exercise even on how to take out fires on a ship or to get ready to fire on a target simply in basic training no matter what their job is same for air force, marines army and even the coast guard. But the air force and navy have started becoming more physically demanding but I get what you're saying. That's why here unless you had a certain MOS that is needed the army, Air force and navy won't let you re enlist if you're prior service with a different branch.

I had no problem completing this course but hell my engineer DP1/RQ Sapper was something else

Riley Osborne actually no as of Jan 2014 there are 68k troops in all counting reservists in that number. There are 400k soldiers within the army's national guard component alone.

Its challenging and you just have to play the game. 14 weeks i will never forget in my life :)

keep in mind you dont have your frag vest on at all in basic. Makes it much easier.

BMQ is only the first step in the Canadian military. The real challenge i soldier qualification SQ which varies from 2 weeks to 13 weeks. Everyone no matter your trade or branch dose SQ. Radio operators do 11 weeks SQ infantry do 13 weeks SQ. In the Canadian Military everyone is a soldier first and expected to fight, there trade is secondary. In the Canadian Military Supply Techs do all the jobs and are trained in all fields of supply tech. Where as in USA its separated training and jobs. So that means a Canadian Supply Tech is allot better trained than its American counter part. This applies to all fields of the CF this is what makes Canada one of the best trained Military's in the world. Now if only we had the funding to have the best equipment and lots of it.

Keep in mind this is only the basic training for all service members, including mail men, and office workers. It’s actually even easier now. But if you go a combat trade (mainly infantry, combat engineer, etc) your trade training will be twice as long. And it will be pretty old school. I know courses usually start with 42 people and will end with 21 or so.

14 weeks? Dang, back in 2006 I took part in the "experimental" 13 week course. And yeah Canada has an Army.. have for Hundreds of years..

I graduate in 2 years (2015) and I've already started training, it's not as hard as you may think, the hardest part is passing the medical ( eyesight, height, weight and reflex) a lot of people get turned Down because of that. I want to join the air force.

I joined the Navy in 1974 as an Ordinary Seaman in the Sonarman trade. I served 21 years and retired as a Lieutenant (N). The Navy encouraged me to finish my high school and then sent me to University of Manitoba in Winnipeg to finish my Bachelor Of Arts. Somewhere along the line I changed classification to the Military Police and spent the rest of my career in the MP. It was a challenging life but I wouldn't change a thing.

Sent my application in for the Reserves on June 11. Waiting on the call to start training. Been working out since April to try and get a head start, just yesterday I went on 2 5km walks... admittedly it was to the bar and back lol but hey, it's a good work out none the less :P Got a good sweat on the go both ways.

I had an interview with the Sergeant just a couple, maybe 3 weeks ago. Gave him some more info, and he told me I just needed some more references. Told me that my application is pretty competitive now. The only issue is that I live 5 hours away from Brigadier James Curry Jefferson Building, and he told me they're not accepting applicants that far away because the long drive might be too much of a strain for the recruits. I called him with a reference, and said I'll do whatever it takes.

Are you able to go wherever you want on weekends after the first 6 weeks or can people only come visit you?

I think I'm gonna finish up what College I got left here, then move back to Newfoundland, join the Reserves, and finish my education at MUN as a Reservist. Since jobs in history are few and far between, I'll probably join the military afterwards anyways, which is one of the many reasons why I want to join the Reserves now.

I just turned 24 this month and the path in front of me is unclear. I've had an interest in the military for a long time and think it could be for me after years of consideration. Currently I'm an unorganized, unfit, undisciplined person. It's my goal to get in much better shape and start following a strict regiment, upgrade my education to prove this is something I want, and enlist. If anyone has any advice for me on what to focus on, i'd really appreciate it. Merry Christmas everyone.

depending on what you want to do they wont be taking apps for most of the forces check on their website first or you'll be forced to wait the next two years

and for those of you prepping for BMQ, focus on lungs and legs. upper body is also important but having no lungs or legs will make a decent portion of BMQ difficult and distracting. i knew this with my family all being ex army at some point in the last 10 years. one thing i didnt do was swim before i left. get into the pool and do some swimming or if you cant, get some lessons. 50% of our platoon failed the swim test and thats not an exaggeration! best of luck

What are normatives of a physical training in the Canadian armed forces? For example, for how much time (for how many minutes) I have to run a 3 or 5 or 6 or 10 km?

As someone who is currently is st jean right now for BMQ I would just like to say. This video is a sliver of what actually happens in BMQ. BMQ isn't like the us army training. BMQ is designed to make you stressed out. It's designed to make you overload your mental capacity and break you down. The timings, the stress, and the discipline they use is a lot and can make anyone cave in. Don't look at this video and think that you can go through this without breaking down.
