The sad and annoying fact of international diplomacy is that nobody lives in, or visits, 3-bedroom bungalows in the suburbs, and meetings are never held at the airport Ramada Inn. Diplomatic staff in every country try to impress and outdo each other. The residences are in city centre and the meetings are always at pricey landmark hotels. Remember Bev Oda's pricey orange juice? That's what it costs in those hotels. It's not like she had a choice, other than skipping breakfast. I dearly wish we didn't feel the need to play by those rules, but that's the irritating price of international diplomacy. If the Consul General had a modest apartment in Brooklyn, Americans would play him/her for a sap every single time.

While Canadians get poorer and poorer. Shameful they are.
