1:40 The Einsatzleitwagen (command vehicle) 2 of the Professional Fire Brigade Karlsruhe for large-scale emergencies, with radio rooms, mobile IT and staff meeting rooms on board. This fire brigade has also the responsibility for handling problems at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), formerly known as the national nuclear research center Karlsruhe. 2:40 Scania TLF of the works fire brigade industry park Hanau, with a Rosenbauer extinguishing lance "Stinger" and CO2-based dry extinguishing system. Because of being a works fire brigade vehicle it shows the "2222" emergency number instead of the normal "112". 7:45 Another works fire brigade in Wiesbaden, demonstration at a open house day at InfraServ Wiesbaden. 8:45 seems to be a real operation of the same unit. 9:40 And another works fire brigade, this time from Frankfurt-Höchst, also during an open house presentation. 10:45 Same presentation, but this vehicle belongs to Frankfurt Airport. 11:40 Similar, but not same unit at the airport.

In my opinion, another vehicle has been forgotten here: The BASF plant fire department has had an aerosol fire engine since 1998. It is based on an 18-ton chassis. The compressed air is generated by two Turbomeca Larzac 04 jet turbines. This generates a compressor equivalent output of 27 megawatts, which makes it possible to atomize 6000 liters of water per minute and carry it 120 metres.

The Bus you've seen as the first one is a command vehicle. In Germany there was 4 types classified till they reorganized the classifications a few years ago. First there is a KDOW which stands for Kommandowagen. It's mainly a regular car with a Bluelight, Siren, Radio and some cloths for the guys in charge of an FD or the leadership. Other than that they regularly don't have any technical stuff inside. Second is the ELW 1 what stands for Einsatzleitwagen 1 which is just a small command vehicle based on VW T6, MB Sprinter, MB Vito and such. These cars you often see on professional brigades that lead the so called Löschzug, that consistes of a small command vehicle, 1-2 trucks and a ladder. These cars are mainly equipped with 2 pc workstations (professional fire departments tend to use only 1) and some space for about 4 people to lead the deployment. These cars are mostly manned by 2 (professional) or 3 (volunteer) firefighters. Third is the ELW 2 what stands, surprise, surprise, for Einsatzleitwagen 2. This is just a bigger categorie of vehicles, mainly light trucks but could also be a big Sprinter based vehicle, that have space for 3 pc workstations and a small room for meetings with space for about 8 people. With the new classifications this are now the biggest, classified command vehicles in Germany. They are also manned by 3 firefighters regularly and often do have followup cars with further technical equipment on a Sprinter base chassis or equal. The king of the command vehicles before they did the reorganization was the ELW 3. These vehicles where mainly big Trucks with 12 tons and more or like in Karlsruhe a Bus or in Munich an articulated truck. There wasn't a big difference in the equipment they would have brought with them inside compared to the ELW 2, they just offered more space. Berlin just ordered 3 Trucks a few years ago that would fit in that category. If I remember it right it where Scania 18T trucks with a large structure behind the cabine for the workstations and stuff meeting room. And yes, the firefigthers give the vehicles Names, but not like you think. We use the official shortcut for them like HLF (Hilfeleistungslöschgruppenfahrzeug - in english I guess you would call it an engine which also is equipped with stuff for technical assistance) oder TLF (Tanklöschfahrzeug - in english you would call it a tanker).
@alexanderkupke920
@alexanderkupke920 2 ай бұрын
Two additions, the KDOW would be the closest comparison to what is known as Battalion chief in North America. And our TLF does not directly compare to a tanker as they are common in North america, as it is equipped with some of the basic equipment of a GLF (Gruppenlöschfahrzeug) which here is the basic engine or pump truck. The difference between the GLF and the HLF is the equipment on board, like rescue equipment etc. Those are the most common ones sent out in an alarm here and I think are the closest comparison to a North American engine. The city I live in has for example three fire stations (for the city fire department, there is an additional dozen of smaller volunteer stations as well.) each has usually one "Löschzug" or Alarm group on standby, consisting of one HLF, one DLF (a ladder truck) and a TLF. Although depending on the incident they are not necessarily all sent out at once
@leoschmelcher4089
@leoschmelcher4089 2 ай бұрын
A HLF would be a Rescue-Engine in North-America. But our HLFs usually contain more material for rescues on construction sites plus the basic stuff for hazmat calls.

You definitely have to watch “Feuer & Flamme” (Fire & Flame). One of the best real life documentary series in Germany. The series follows the everyday life of the fire brigade, especially their operations. It's unique. And it shows me every time that these firefighters are the real heroes. (Translated by google)

9:08 iirc: For a time the Frankfurt fire trucks had the radio callsign „Florian [number]“, because of the local Frankfurt license plate „F“ and the name of the patron saint of firefighters, Saint Florian.

Every vehicle of fire departments including volunteer fire departments in Germany and Austria has a callsign beginning with "Florian", not only in Frankfort. Usually the city or district name follows and then a number, depending on purpose of use of the vehicle.

1:24 When trains derail or major accidents occur with many people involved, the fire department needs a bus to evacuate people. Here we have a bus that half belongs to the fire department. During the day, this bus runs as normal, but when the radio message comes, everyone has to get out because the vehicle is needed by the fire department.

they don't necessarily NEED it. It's handy and they'll use it if available - but they'll use the bus also for way smaller incidents already; Rehab, bariatric patients etc

@@michaelkruse4864 Now that you mention it… that actually is the spelling on the Wiesbaden Infraserv trucks… I am however pretty much convinced that without the „s“, it‘s actually a grammatical error… imo, that should be a Genitiv as part of the composite… like in „Geschäftsleitung“, „Arbeitsplatz“, etc.
@michaelkruse4864
@michaelkruse4864 2 ай бұрын
Now that you mention that, I did a little Research on that and realized that in Germany it's typically used without the s (actually many members of "Werkfeuerwehren" are Kind of upset when the s is used), while in Austria it's typical to use the s. The "S" is called Fugen-S and there seems to be no clear rule, when it has to be used or not. Therefore from the gramatical point of view, both ways seem to be correct. Anyway the most fire protection laws of the Single (German) states speak about Werkfeuerwehr without the s

4:06 come to think of it, this year, 2024, marks the 150th anniversary of the founding of the professional municipal fire brigades of Frankfurt am Main. The stations have „Days of the Open Doors“, one station per week on sundays to commemorate this.

The sirens for fire departments and police were originally developed by the Martin company. This makes trumpets and horns. The siren consisted of two brass horns that each played one note. The compressed air is alternately directed into one horn or the other. The compressor for the air is located on the engine. But today there are also electronic horns.

The blue flashing light is a development in preparation for war. Before WW2, the fire department was subordinate to the police. The blue light should not be visible from far in the dark. Today the flashing lights are much brighter thanks to LED technology. And the fire department is no longer part of the police department. But it is usual for the fire department to organize the ambulances too.

@michaelkruse4864
@michaelkruse4864 2 ай бұрын
@EnjoyFirefighting
@EnjoyFirefighting 2 ай бұрын

In Germany the firemen of villages / Gemeinden ( lesser than 10000 inhabitants) are usualy volunteers. In small towns/ Kleinstädte ( lesser than 30000 inhabitants) usually the same. In midsize towns / Mittelstädte ( 40000 to 100000) there is a small professional group ( one or two vehicles) as first response unit, followed by volunteers. In large towns/ Großstädte there are large professional units, when necessary supported by still existing volunteers.

I don't want to seem rude, but when I started as a volunteer with the paramedics for two years... the first thing I had to do was look at pictures of dead accident victims (small children) to toughen myself up, then I spent six weeks learning how to put on bandages... ... on my first assignment I was tasked with finding the head of a "Motorcycle Jesus". We "volunteers" were "abused" for cleaning the streets (collecting body parts) and no one gave us psychological care afterwards... those were my first 2 and last years with the "paramedics" By the way: you know what a “Motorcycle Jesus” is? I'm telling you, there's someone who puts his "autograph" into the roof of a station wagon at the end of the traffic jam.... most of the time the head is still on... but sometimes it can be found again a few hundred meters away... and... I had to collect the parts with a garbage bag and a hand brush.... I NEVER want to experience that AGAIN
