For those of you who thinks it's slow he is clearly taking his time to show how the system works and I'm assuming that he can set up both sets at once before jumping into his truck and pulling forward. This might take 3 minutes to put on both sets. It would definitely be possible to put them on with the trailer hooked up as well, not as easily but definitely very doable.

It takes a lot longer to do it manually without this setup

In all the 31 years that I drove, I've never seen anything as slick as this. You have a great way of applying an idea into a work saving, safe way, of chaining. And for the guy who remarked about being heavy with mud, snow and what not, just take a broom knucklehead and sweep the chains clean!! Thanks for showing this - nice video and well presented.
@koko30527 жыл бұрын
Well John, pretty obvious that you haven't hauled in the oilfield. When I'm talking clay, that is that you can't pressure wash it out & you sure as hell aren't going to "take a broom knucklehead & sweep the chains clean"! roflmao! I'm pretty sure that you're 31 years of driving was highway or just "country dirt roads". Mr Knucklehead to you!
@pirate6127 жыл бұрын
Oil fields - no. Just coast to coast and the lower 48 here in CONUS. Construction, logging, livestock, and FAK. About the mud, some mud is a real pain to get off and can present a danger to those on the highway if not cleared before entering a highway. My comment "knucklehead" was over the top and not called for here. I apologize for that.

This is a sweet set up I am a disabled trucker with bad back hips and knee replacements I can not put chains on without great problems so seeing this and how easy it is and wont hurt my back or knees its great idea. To all those guys that put it down cause they can throw chains in 10 minutes good for you I only hope you never know the problems that can make chaining up a real night mare dont bash a guy because he found a way he finds better to do a job you can do easy.
@leeh.44539 жыл бұрын
trenton johnson I agree. I drove bus between Truckee, Northstar ski area, up to Tahoe and around the north shore all seasons. About 3" clearance in the fender well, less on some makes. The only way to hook them was either between the ground and one side or the other, depending on the bus make. If they'd had something like this, I'd still be doing it.

Holy sheep shit that is a slick way to install chains. Dude you should sell that .Amazing
I'm all for innovations, actually I spend the better part of my driving hours thinking of how I can improve stuff. I like this set up. It's perfect for older guys like me that like to do things the easy way. Especially if you only chain up every now and then going over Rogers Pass or the Coquihalla. But if you travel any serious off road this would shred to pieces in a heartbeat. So I'm afraid I won't be using this anytime soon at my job. It is pretty cool though. I put a link on my page.

I swear this is true. In the 80's I worked for a parts store in Coeur d Alene. One year we got a LOT of snow overnight, late Feb I guess. Next morn (Sat) was a zoo, and in comes some kid who told me he just flew in from Hawaii to Seattle and picked up a truck to drive to ?? Texas er somewhere. He had driven only in Hawaii, NEVER in the snow. He told me he had never SEEN snow. "Back then" everybody (local loggers) used triple rail chains, maybe one single on the front in a bad spot for steering. We sold few if any dual chains (no center rail, they made 'em) and lots and LOTS of "triples." Anyway, a couple of us (we ain't drivers) had to go out in the parking lot and show this kid how to chain up with triple rails.

wow that was mint. A few weeks ago, I had to chain/unchain 4 duels so we could run 50km up a forest road. (my second time ever with chains) With 2 guys it takes 3/4 hour - 11 min per tire. We dont get dirty doing that job either. But that chain rollup riggin is pretty sweet ! Great to see that kind of homebrew to make the job easier. Obviously the truck has to go places where chains are used several times per season.
