I just received an International 2444 and that video was very informative. That almost looks like mine. I had no idea how the two stage worked but after this video I have the confidence to change it if ever needed. Thanks.

Thank you so much for the video!! It was a major help. I was able to replace the clutch and pto discs in my tractor. :) A few tips to those who might read the comments for additional info. Move the front of the tractor, not the back, MUCH MUCH easier. DO NOT FORCE THE HALVES TOGETHER. You will damage the PTO disc and possibly the clutch pack. Packs are not cheap. While you have the tractor apart, become intimately familiar with the insides. It will come in handy to know what you're touching without seeing as you're putting it back together. As you bring the two halves together, continuously feel through the inspection cover and make sure things are lining up ok. Use four 7/16" x 8" course thread bolts to line up the tractor. These will act as guides to help line things up. Using a rolling floor jack capable of 24" of lift is very helpful.

Very nice video Sir, my cutch freezes up, if the tractor sets for more then 3 months. It sat for 5 months, well you know what happened. Normally I can run the tractor down the road with the clutch pressed down in second gear, jump the break and it will break free. Not this time. So I figure, I have to manually separate the clutch with a crowbar, thank god for the inspection hole. I learned allot from you, thank you very much for your video.

Question: when I release my clutch, I get a chattering noise/knocking sound from the gear box, if I release it real slow sometime it does the noise and sometimes not, any ideas on this problem? Otherwise the clutch works fine, don't seem to be any hydrolic problem as I can tell. Thanks

Awesome Video. Purchased a Mf175 a few months back, the guy had told me that he put the pto clutch in 180 Degrees off. Is that possible? When I try to engage the pto it starts to grab at the end of the pto lever movement. Please help!
@CanadianRedneck156 жыл бұрын
I am glad you enjoyed the video. It is possible that he put the disk in wrong side toward the flywheel, that certainly could make it grab. Good luck and thanks for watching!

Hi Dave, My mother inlaw has a Massey 35 the clutch works fine untill you engage the PTO then it sticks and you either have to try and pull it out of gear or shut it down to stop. Is it just stuck and it will come good with a bit of work or is it stuffed?Thank's

Dave, How do you remove the input housing on an MF65, American built, ser # 673,543. It is dual clutch like this video. you use one as the alignment tool. I thought the 4 bolts on the housing and the pto shaft and housing just slipped out. HELP!
@CanadianRedneck155 жыл бұрын
You will have to push the bottom shaft to the rear out of the bearing till it drops down so there is clearance for the input shaft to come out. Thanks for watching.
@bannereddivpool6 жыл бұрын
Heya, my MF165 is making a knocking noise. When I took the clutch cover off the bottom it sounds like it's coming from that area. The knock does go away when I rev the old perkins to 100rpm. I'm thinking I will take the oil pan off and inspect the bearing mains. Driving me nuts but the tractor runs great and has good oil pressure. I was told to unbolt the inspection plates on both sides of the transmission (two bolts in a diamond shape), but I'm not sure if those hold anything internally?
@CanadianRedneck156 жыл бұрын
The two small diamond shaped plates are the retaining pins for the hydraulic pump, the inspection plates are the round ones about half way up the sides. One or both of the retaining pins for the hydraulic pump could be broken which could cause a knocking noise, you would be able to see that through the round covers on the side. You will want to at least partly drain the hydraulic oil or it will spill out when you take the covers off. Thanks for watching!
@bannereddivpool6 жыл бұрын
I looked at it last night, sitting in the seat on the left is the cover the one with the PTO-Engine RPM, PTO off, PTO hydraulic? Those covers, there is one on the other side as well. I also notice that the fluid is milky so I have water in there some how! Ordered new shift booties, maybe the that is the issue. Just want to inpsect the pump to make sure, though.
@CanadianRedneck156 жыл бұрын
Those are the covers. Shift boots will go a long way toward keeping the water out. Good luck!

My Massey Ferguson 30 1974 clutch . Has a 11" primary and 9 " secondary for PTO I don't see that in yours ?
@CanadianRedneck156 жыл бұрын
That would be the identical clutch to the one in this video, you don't see the 9" PTO disk because it is captive in the center of the pressure plate assembly but if you look close at the assembly you can see the spline hub of the disk. Thanks for watching!

Can anyone help me pls? I have a Lenar FS 254 II tractor. It's done hardly any work and went through a flood. Is been sitting for quite some time and the clutch doesnt seem to disengage at all. Is a two stage clutch. Could it be that it is rust stuck on the pressure plates and the transmission disks? It has three adjustment points and also three limiting bolts. I wonder after watching this if what I think is the limiting bolts should be undone a lot more. Can anyone point me to some instru tion on how to properly adjust this clutch? I would be grateful for any help. Regards to all. Florian

Hi Dave, I have an International 444 and the clutch pedal no longer depresses the clutch. I took the return spring off and the pedal just dropped down to rest on the foot board. I can move it up and down freely but it does nothing. The clutch works fine as I can start it in gear and the tractors moves fine. I can also take it out of gear and into nuetral by slowing the RPM but can only get it back in gear by killing the motor. I have not removed the plate yet to look up into that area. Seems like something has come loose. It has always worked fine. This happened all of a sudden. Any thoughts?
@CanadianRedneck155 жыл бұрын
That sounds like either the clutch pedal shaft or the release bearing forks broke (likely the forks), pull the plate off the bottom of the clutch housing and you should be able to see. One other possibility is that the clutch pedal came loose on the shaft, but I wouldn't think it would happen that fast.'Thanks for watching!
@brucepeil5 жыл бұрын
I removed the plate and nothing was broken. The clutch pedal shaft had gradually, over time, slipped to where it no longer engaged the pressure plate when you push down on the clutch pedal. A fairly simple fix. I also made sure I had proper free travel. Thanks Dave. Like your videos.

Another awesome video Dave, very informative! I have a 1962 IH B275 with dual clutch. When I try to snowblow the yard with a 6' snowblower, I can smell the PTO clutch even when it's just 6" fluffy snow, tractor not working hard. I'm guessing it's time to change the PTO clutch and while I have it apart might as well change both clutches, release bearing, pilot bushing and resurface pressure plates. If I don't plan on using the PTO since I now always use the front loader to clean the yard and I don't use the PTO for anything else, can I just leave it and not worry about it causing damage to anything. Thanks.

I paid a shop to replace the the two stage clutch in my MF3165 (basically a 165) I now only have about half the clutch pedal travel that I had originally. The PTO never disengages and when the pedal is pressed, I hear a loud rubbing sound that I can feel in the pedal. The Clutch, Pressure Plate and throw out bearing are supposed to be new but I believe I'm hearing a bad or incorrectly installed throw-out bearing. I left the machine at the shop but they already have my check. They are telling me "it probably only needs some adjustment" I'm afraid something was damaged in reassembly or perhaps the wrong part was installed. Your thoughts HELP!!!
@CanadianRedneck154 жыл бұрын
If you have less pedal travel it would not be going far enough to disengage the PTO clutch, there are 2 holes for the linkage on the clutch pedal, it could be in the wrong hole. The noise and bad feel in the pedal is definitely something that needs sorted out though, a seized release bearing can wear right through the clutch levers. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for video! It is just right, not a bunch of unnecessary music or telling everyone an hours worth of jibber jabber that has nothing to do with the job. Awesome content! I have watched all of your Massey Ferguson videos that have to do with clutch replacement, I saw the way you adjusted the clutch peddle in this video, but I did not hear or see anything about an adjustment of the PTO/captive clutch disk. (I am not asking about centering it I know about that). Are there any adjustments for that or does it simply bolt in place as you have show and that is all that is needed? Thanks again for a great straight to the point video!
@CanadianRedneck152 жыл бұрын
With a new clutch it should be adjusted ready to go. To adjust the PTO clutch you adjust the setscrews around the outside middle of the pressure plate to .080-.090 clearance. Thanks for watching!
@wayneappleyard36668 жыл бұрын
Hi Dave, its the transmission i'm assuming because it keeps driving along with foot on the clutch and wont stop but it only does it when the PTO is engaged other wise its fine. PS she uses the tractor a fair bit so it hasen't been sitting around.Thank's for your reply. Cheers
@CanadianRedneck158 жыл бұрын
+Wayne Appleyard Does the tractor have live PTO (2 stage clutch) or transmission driven PTO? If it is transmission driven and running something like a bush cutter, the momentum of the bush cutter will push the tractor even after pushing the clutch pedal. With a transmission driven PTO you need an "over running clutch" attachment for the PTO output shaft. Its a little extension shaft that goes on the output shaft of the tractor to let the implement free wheel when you shove the clutch.
