When 911 happened, thousands of Americans firefighters, paramedics, cops prepared to go to New York to help with the scene. However our friends from the Great North were already on their way. The Canadians were the first to not only offer help, they actually came in the thousands. I’m not sure exactly how many, but I heard ehhh many many times. I have always loved our brothers in the north, but when I went and marched in the delayed memorial service the next year, again our Canadian brothers and sisters were there marching as well. I will always respect you, it was an honor to March with you, I will never forget the respect they showed for us. God Bless Canada. We have fought side by side for over 200 years . Canada is like our best friend that has stayed with us since high school, thru thick and thin. I don’t think we would stand by if someone attacked our brothers, do you?

Of course we wouldn't. Heck even Mexico, as much trouble as the US has with illegal immigration and drug cartels from Mexico, the US, Mexico, and Canada, stand united ready to face any dumbass thinking they can invade one of us. It's part of our best defense. And enemy would have to push through Alaska (harsh winter) Canada (Same), and cross tons of land just to even invade the US, same with Mexico, or they'd have to have a large enough navy to attempt to land on the coasts across 2 huge oceans, and even then they'd have to get past not only the US Navy (tough enough already) but also Canada and maybe Mexico's too. ANd if trying to cross Mexico you got a shit ton of desert to cross, and I;m sure by then the 3 countries would jointly mobilize their troops to Alaska or into Mexico and put up a joint defense effort, while the Navy pulls what ships it needs and cuts off enemy reinforcements, the enemy would need to land such a massive force, then even if they got past Mexico and Canada they'd have to fight through veried and large terrain and contend with US soldiers and one f the most well armed civilians in the world, even then if they could somehow take out some US leaders or take or destroy DC, the US has contingency plans for this, so you'd see such and epic guerilla war effort by US soldiers and civies, the enemy would be crushed pretty soon, and this is me just being generous with the enemy's chances, i reality the US along with Canada and Mexico is so well equiped the enemy wouldn't even make landfall, or barely get far before being decimated. The only thng we'd have to worry about is if Canada and Mexico both turned on the US, but I doubt that would ever happen as even if the government leaders pushed for this kind of war, the Canadian people at least would shut it down as a war with the US would be idiotic.

Thank you for being a decent human being. I was one of them, It was actually in St. Bernard Parish, Canadians were the first rescuers those folks saw. Our Navy sailed from our East Coast and landed troops, supplies and rescuers before most American aid got on the ground. We have a small military but we can get "effective" boots on the ground on a moments notice, little red tape and/or bullshit. I loved being part of the effort and have since returned many times to help our American friends in their time of need including a stint in Texas during the last bad floods. Unfortunately the previous American administration has promoted so much hatred toward my country it will take many years before I step foot in the U.S. again especially after a bunch of red hatted ass wipes pushed around my elderly relatives in Florida for simply being Canadian. That insanity needs to stop.

Btw, it really wasn't Canada fighting the USA in 1812. It was the full fledged power of the British military. Canada didn't technically exist as a nation until 1867. All military forces up until then were British Colonials, which the USA had just fought a few decades earlier in the Revolution....and almost lost. The British were one tough force back then. The USA was mainly just a bunch of farmers and tradesman, until the industrial revolution around/after the Civil War.

Canada provides a huge contribution to the defense of the United States through the factor of its immense size. You provide significant time for defenses if we were to get attacked from the Arctic as your northern territories and provinces are well monitored through dual protection agreements. We also know that you’ve always got our back. There have been so many examples of this. One well known case was in 1979 when the Canadian embassy in Tehran hid American diplomats after the US embassy has been seized. This came at high cost for Canada as they were forced to close their embassy in Tehran after this act of support for us.

Canada survived the War of 1812, but "win" is a strong word, and the video you watched was a bit off with the notion that the war was about American expansion. It was British violations of American sovereignty, not America wanting land, though Canada was a war aim (but not the cause).

Just FYI, the British burned it not the Canadians. It was British regulars that used Canada as a staging point. As a fellow Canadian I understand your fears of nuclear war I was born in 1970 and even as a child I knew about nuclear war but to be quiet honest we didn't think much about it, in fact I think instead we tried to live everyday to its fullest and we planned are futures, mine was to travel the world and since I've been all over Canada and the States, five countries in Europe, three in Asia (8 times to Thailand) and a seven day cruise up the Nile in Egypt I haven't done that bad and my trips aren't over yet. So if I was going to talk to teenagers now a days I would say plan your goals and make sure you do what you planned that way you won't have any regrets.

Fun facts about our standard issue service rifle for the Canadian Armed forces: The C7A2 uses the ELCAN C79A2 4-1x magnification scope with top ironsights The C7 variant is one of the only rifles used by NATO still using a 20 inch barrel, where as other NATO countries use barrels between 12 and 16 inches. BUT the C7A2 does use a telescopic stock allowing it to be retracted and makes it more ease of use in buildings making CQC easier than the C7A1 which does not have a retractable stock The C7A2 is not only more accurate than the M4 due to the production line of the barrels, but also has a longer lifespan due to the barrels being cold forge steel whereas the American rifle barrels are just made on a cheap production line Reply to this comment if you want to know anything else about the C7.

Here in lies the issue with the infographic channel they only give really general information. For instance the US defense budget, which sounds pretty big, doesn't just include military spending. The budget includes some of the expenditures of the alphabet agencies (DoH, DoD, CIA, NSA, etc.); it also includes the budgets for research and development such as DARPA which more than just weapons, but also stuff used in daily life (GPS, duct tape first invented for soldier's use, the earlier form of super glue, etc.); and so many other miscellaneous expenditures that are filed under 'defense.'

One factoid: The Canadian forces (under the command of the British so considered by many historians to have been British and not Canadian) burned the White House after the American forces had burned the City of York (Upper Canada's capital at the time), present-day Toronto. The destruction of the City of Washington did not succeed because a severe storm doused the flames. A story:: My father was in the US Air Force and addressed a crowd in Moose Jaw. Minot AFB was a well-known target so one of the people in attendance asked, half jokingly, what would happen if the Russians aimed missiles at Minot and they fell a little short in southern Saskatchewan. I don't remember the response. It was 1963. One problem with aging is that we remember only half of any story. Darn it.
