2013-01-30 - On January 30, 2013, Canadian Space Agency astronaut Chris Hadfield took part in a live space to Earth connection with His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada and some 250 grade 5 and 6 students from the National Capital Region gathered at the Canada Aviation and Space Museum in Ottawa, Ontario. Hadfield answered student questions and also demonstrated how he washes his hands in space while floating aboard the International Space Station 380 kn above the Earth.

@@robbiehiatt9966 answer my questions bud, answer em. also if ur talking about the wires they show in videos, anyone could tell u its because of the equipment, look around u in ur room, thats right u see wires, theyre not all in one place though because u got a lot of room and not so many things that have wires in them in one small place, whereas the iss conducts more than 100 experiments at a time, has to support life for a maximum of i believe 12 astronauts, which means they need medical equipment, adds to all the wires. they got labs in there where they keep the equipment, hence the amount of wires. having plenty of wires doesnt mean that theyre tangled, also if they wanted to "lie to you" they wouldve hidden all the wires to not have people question their credability. furthermore, where the hell is the harness thats gonna be connected to a bunch of visible wires that are not even moving to move the astronaut around? grow a brain.

He’s Canadian, we’re all taught French in school as it’s our second language and millions of Canadians like those in Quebec speak it as a first language :) Sorry I realize this was 6 years ago 😂

Q: How do you sleep in space? Chris: I sleep well, thank you! It’s a bit different because without gravity, it’s not necessary to have a bed, so I only have a sleeping bag attached to the wall, and I don’t need a pillow because your head doesn’t fall down, I float. And therefore, for sleeping, I just use the sleeping bag, float next to the wall, attach a bit to the wall with Velcro, and relax and sleep, it’s very comfortable, I think it’s much more comfortable than on Earth with gravity

Every time I see anything with Commander Hadfield my respect for him increases and I am more proud to be Canadian. He is an amazing ambassador for Canada and what we as humans are capable of. Cmdr Chris is just remarkable. Not only he's extremely well educated but he's so down to earth and easy to speak to. He switches languages like it's nothing. I am very fascinated everytime I see some interview with him as he's so well spoken and even funny. Lots of kudos to this man for what he does. More men like this please. For anyone wondering, Chris is answering these questions from inside the Japanese module. Behind him is an airlock that can only be used by cargo or experiments (not people). There is also an arm that can grab equipment or experiments from the airlock to place them on the ISS's "Back Porch" where they store experiments meant to test things out in vacuum.

It was French, and he's Canadian - English and French are the two main languages spoken in Canada, so it's likely that he had it in school at one point.

Ya true , Canadians are "usually" billingual , but also astronauts have to learn a couple of languages for communication especially Russian & English , also sometimes Italian , french & Columbian

The realization that there is nothing between him and the sun but a thin piece glass is eye opening. To me. The pristine view from space of the sun is incredibly beautiful. Its like their is no room for superstition. It's just a benevolent body and has never heard the human interpretations of its existence reach through the earths atmosphere. It is only a lonely body in space that burns brightly, and from space it is so pristine and beautiful. To have the chance to see the Sun through the void of empty space would be a privilege to me like having the chance to see the great pyramids in person, but like 1000 times more majestic!

Q: What kind of food do astronauts eat? A: We have lots of types of food but not fresh. It's not like by you. We lack a refrigerator. No freezer here- for food. This is dry fruit. I can open it. It's peach. It's space food. It's not bad. This is walleye. From Russia. Like salmon. Similar to what's on Earth, with vegetables. So it's not delicious but it's pretty good. It's not Mom who makes the food. It's not like a restaurant. But it's good enough for astronaut's health and for me it's perfect.
