Canberra - Purpose built as Australia’s capital city, Canberra is a 3-hour drive from both the snowy mountains and the beautiful beaches of New South Wales.
When ready, browse vacation packages to Canberra: www.expedia.com/Canberra.d604...
Canberra is a city which honors Australia’s past and shapes its future, yet #Canberra is far more than a political capital.
At the heart of Canberra’s creation story is Lake Burley Griffin. In 1911, the government launched an international design competition seeking a master plan for a brand new city. The victor, Chicago architect Walter Burley Griffin, won with a garden city design focused on a man-made lake which fits perfectly within the landscape. When, the nation’s Governor General stood in a dusty paddock in 1913 and announced the name of the new capital, he told the nation that the city had, lying before it, a splendid destiny.
Over 100 years later, that destiny has been fulfilled in a city that preserves the great chapters of Australia’s history and continues on to the next. #Vacation here to become a part of it, and keep the memories of your #visit for your own story.
For now, we hope you enjoy watching this #travel #guide as much as we enjoyed making it.

This city is extremely beautiful. This has to be one of the most beautiful cities in the world. The green spaces, city layout and impressive buildings in the CBD are remarkably beautiful

I agree with you! Canberra is still tranquil place, a wonderfull city to live and enjoy! Just today I finished a study about the city, entitled: A history of Canberra, a 293 pages study about the development of Canberra! Did you know that Canberra with its 2358 sq km administrative area one of the biggest city on earth? Even bigger than Tokyo, London, Mexico City or Sao Paulo for that matter. And in this vast area only around 400,000 people live! So there is enough space for future development, and one day the city will have between 1.5 to even 2 million people by the year of 2100.

@@smithygog7775 yeah I'm aware of the landmass of Canberra versus the population although those of London and Tokyo are for the core city and not the metropolitan area. Nonetheless, Australian cities are generally well spaced out like Canadian and US cities based on their town planning system. I honestly love very low density but feature packed cities and I find Canberra to be one of my personal favourite best cities on earth as there's so much green spaces, spacious roads and low rise buildings. I certainly would jump at an opportunity to reside and work/do business in Canberra. Other Australian cities I like are Adelaide, Brisbane, Darwin and Hobart. I also love Queenstown New Zealand

@@deu8894 Many thanks for your kindly comment! I study Urban Geography and have been on a study trip to Canberra back in 2018 summer! Canberra is unique in its term of physical geography! I never see a city like this! I spend over 6 week to learn more about this planned city! I have a very detailled street-Atlas, published by the ACT government. Yet in terms of population Brisbane is the largest local government( city, municipality) of Australia, having 1.2 million spread on 1343 sq km-measuring about 38 km from the north to the south, and 50 kilometer from west to the east. Now, take this Canberra ACT is exact 88.5 kilometer or 55 miles from the north to the south, and around 40 kilometer or 25 miles from the west to the east, alltogether 2358 sq km. Thats a massive size, and is far bigger than lets said Tokyo, London, Sao Paulo, Mexico City or even Los Angeles or New York. In terms of its area, Canberra is therefore one of the world largest city! Canberra ACT has 19 administrative districts and at least 130 localities, or neighbourhood. Some suburb are so huge, that I feel lost in that huge sprawl! Altough Canberra has an excellent traffic system, you need a car to move around the city because of huge distance between each districts and neighbourhoods! There is a recent figure of 420,960 people living in Canberra, which would grow to half million by 2029 and further to 939,000 by the year 2066. I guess there will be more than 1.3 million in Canberra by the year 2100! There is huge potential for future expansion and housing development within the Canberra ACT. Canberras wealth is rapidly growing day by day and the city is going to be very rich in any aspects! I will write my Phd. dissertation on Canberra very soon, here in Hungary, and will publish to encourage future investment in this city.

Hallo Riley! I live in the Charnwood neighbourhood of Belconnen district, which is the biggest district of Canberra with close to 100,000 inhabitants! I we lived in Adelaide for a while, but Canberra is the most pleasant and tranquil city for me! It is like a huge garden city, where everywhere green areas and a lot of parks! And Canberra is still growing, and will have in just a decade half a million people! Canberra has a lot of uninhabited huge patch of lands, since our capital city is even larger territorialy as Tokyo or London! In a city like Canberra ACT which extent for 88.5 kilometers from north to the south, there is a lot of new space for further development for housing construction etc..

Canberra ACT is a national park masquerading as a city! It was a great place to grow up in.

the question shouldn't be "why would you go to Australia?" but rather "why would you want travel anywhere else other than Australia?....maybe apart from New Zealand 😁" Seriously though, it's not as dangerous a place as people make out, it's just that a lot of it is very minimally populated (large regions where it's unsustainable to have cities of people) but as a result those parts are particularly jam packed full of spectacular natural vistas. I'm lucky to have a reserve on my side doorstep (that ironically 'snakes' under 2 intersecting freeways) and while I'm sure there are snakes there I haven't yet seen any and as long as I walk carefully (by making a bit of noise while walking in any long grass) I may not actually see any there for years to come. Most snakes don't tend to inhabit the water, and those that do are in tropical climates (in places such Darwin or in the state of Queensland). I have seen Kangaroos there, albeit only on a few occassions and only 2 pairs of them. Also, the vast majority of spiders in Australia aren't really dangerous to humans (including most of the large ones). And for anyone who hasn't actually seen an Australian possum in Australia I'm happy to say that they look incredibly different from their American relatives (particularly Australian ringtail possums, that making light twittering voice and who look adorable, and even the brushtail possums (that at times exchange threatening sounding noises towards each other) are amazing looking and acting creatures). I do however completely understand why many New Zealanders don't like them, but that's because they were an introduced species to New Zealand and as such along with rats and stoats have sadly had as big an impact on New Zealand's native fauna and general local ecosystem in general as the impact that rats, cats, feral foxes and cane toads have had on Australia's native ecosystem (albeit via varying ways). I spent my early years growing up in the bush and I never once got bitten by a spider or in fact stung by anything, but within a month of moving down to the suburbs I got stung by a bee and then by a wasp (both being species that were introduced to Australia and are not native). Something that Australia has which relatively few other countries have is a large variety of natural wonders, both on land and in the water, and also a range of very different climates in different parts of the country. But as amazing as the natural landscape is the amount of deforestation and increased suburban sprawl I the major cities over the past 5 decades has been immense, and only become faster with the turn of the 21st century. Our reefs are quickly changing (most of which is irrevocable) and most people (including most farmers) agree that more needs to be done to decrease the amount of chemical 'run-off' that exists in some major river systems (including some that feed out onto sections of the Great Barrier Reef) and to minimise currently rising sea temperatures. Such places will forever remain amazing, but we do need to do what we can to ensure that they and countless other natural environments the world over are protected by us as much as is possible.
