Many years ago I took one of my children to get her father a Christmas present and she had 5 dollars to spend . I can’t remember what the item was but it was at Radio Shack and was $5 and they offered me an extended warranty that would be $5. I told them if it broke it made more sense to just come in snd buy a new one

There's an old joke about extended warranties if you tell it to somebody old enough. You ask somebody this: "Remember the Rodeny King riots in Los Angeles when there was all the looting and especially of that one Sears store?" Most people will say yes because they at least remember that 1992 rioting if they were old enough. You continue, "The looters really came to regret it because they were hounded by Sears trying to sell them service contracts."

Oh the warranty offered on cars.........I continued to be hounded by mail and phone for ten years after I was told that it had to be purchased on date of purchase! Yeah, right. The toothpaste man's reply was priceless!

I used to work at Radio Shack and in some cases the price of the extended warranty was more than the product's price, since all products in a given category had the same warranty price. Still, somehow, some salespeople were able to sell a $19.95 warranty on a cheap $5.95 set of headphones, since the person was going to be using them quite a bit and wearing them out constantly.

Unfortunately, where I work, we really do have to ask about warranties for things that make no sense. This was a good concept, but the pranks that don't involve Peter aren't anywhere near as funny.
