Suffocating the candle also produces a significant amount of smoke, & leaving the lid on means that the smoke is absorbed into the wax. Dipping the wick is the best way to go!

Another great way to get the wax out when burned down is to pour boiling water into it. The melted wax will rise to the top and once it's cool you can just lift it out of the water without needing to crack anything! When the jar is still warm (but not hot!) it'll also be easier to remove the stickers :)

An easy way to remove stickers is to heat them up with a hair dryer and then peeling away the sticker when the glue is warm.

Great tips! I had a candle that was burning in a weird shape, now I understood that it was receiving a draft of air from the window from one side. As part of repurposing; I would recommend not throwing away the leftover wax, it can be used with wax warmer and they would be given another life to burn.

I accumulate the leftover wax and when I have enough, I repurpose it by melting and pouring to make a new candle. Nothing is wasted and I can enjoy many more hours of candlelight for the cost of a simple new wick.

Great content. An inexpensive way to remove adhesive is soak the adhesive with olive oil generously. Let it sit for a while then wipe it away with a paper towel. If there is any residue left soak a paper towel with the oil and rub vigorously. Wash off the oil with soak and water. Voila! Works for me every time. Keep up the good work. I'll have to check out your other content.

Absolutely amazing video! Wow!! I can’t believe I didn’t know why people used candle snuffers! I forgot about them & I didn’t know they eliminate that bad smell when you blow a candle out! I also just figured out today that you need to trim your wick 😄 I can’t believe no one told me this stuff lol. A candle care kit would be a great Christmas present! I think I’ll get one for my sister... or myself 😄 Thank you thank you thank you!!

Hi! Thank you so much for this video. Everything was so helpful and informative! Do you know if there's a way to reuse the wax from candles that have tunneling? I didn't know about the first burn technique until too late, and I still would like to use the leftover wax if I can.
@missmethodical
@missmethodical 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Rachel 👋🏻 Yes, there is a way! You basically need to set a new (longer/taller) wick and melt the wax down so it is level again. You can also choose to strain out any burnt bits before letting the candle cool. I go over this method a bit in my "Pour Your Own Candle At Home" video using the oven on low heat. I'm pouring a new candle in the video, but the concept is the same for saving wax that has tunneled. I hope this helps! Thanks so much for stopping by :)

I've never had an issue just popping the wicks off by carefully prying with a knife, but maybe you could try a short soak with rubbing alcohol to help with the release
@hydroaegis6658

Wick dipping is the only correct way to put out the fire. Smoke is caused by low temperature burns which can be caused by low oxygen (when you snuff the fire). That smoke is either going into your room or settling on the wax. By dipping the wick, you put the fire out so quickly almost no smoke has time to form.

Hey!!! I love this! I had no idea about melting the top layer... how do you melt the top layer first? Trim the wick, then hold the lighter above the areas around the wick and let it get soft? Also, I have some ceramic candle vessels! Do you think these can go in oven? There’s no instructions on the jar. Also, what about the microwave? Thank you!!!!!
@missmethodical
@missmethodical 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Julie 👋🏻 When I talk about letting the top layer melt, you may accomplish this by simply lighting the candle! I would consider ceramic safe to put in the oven at the low temperatures I've mentioned. I'm less sure about the microwave. To be safe, I would recommend using the double boiler method with any vessels you're unsure of. Just be careful not to change the temperature too quickly, regardless of material, as these quick changes can cause the vessels to become fragile or shatter. I hope this helps! Thanks so much for stopping by my channel :)

You never want to suffocate a candle. I tried this method as a novice before purchasing the proper snuffer and tools and had a very difficult time removing the lid as it created a strong suction. You can technically suffocate it if you don’t have the snuffer tool but be very careful about it. I do not recommend, although it is better than blowing it out. Also by suffocating it, there will be a dark burned spot left underneath your lid. It is not aesthetically pleasing just fyi.

It's certainly safe if you follow the other precautions. I think a candle is unlikely to bring the temperature up in a significant way in a room.

Sort of. I've combined leftover wax into a new candle and lit it successfully, but you just need to install a new wick first. I imagine the wick from an old candle would be too short to continue to use!
