Thanks for being a part of my world while I am grounded to my candle studio ( 2nd bedroom of my apartment). It’s currently 1 AM and I have 12 more tins to pour and then going to work on the Hogwarts house candles I have in development. Using only premier 700 wicks purchased through you. Just have to say I love how open you are even as you grow into a bigger and bigger company. Never seen anyone do what you do. Lave ya Wade, and keep on keepin on brother! PS. Hey I love your channel and I’m learning a lot from your channel. Im having trouble getting a hot throw with 6006 in my aura vessel from wooden wick co. I’ve tried adding FO at 180-185 and 170-180 with CD and HTP wicks. So far the HTP wicks work best but still not getting the great hot throw everyone talks about.
@BlackTieBarn
@BlackTieBarn 2 жыл бұрын
I'd start by testing SEVERAL FOs first. not all FOs work well in all waxes. Many FOs these days have become subpar in my opinion too as they try to get competitive on price. I haven't used 6006 in aura jars myself. I prefr htp and premier 700 in 6006 as well as zinc core

Called UV Inhibitor. Just helps keep colors from fading as quickly. It'd optional. Most don't use it to be honest (especially if not dying candles). It's beat though if your candles will be in stores on shelves under uv light.

I subscribed after watching this video. I have been doing research for month’s after my wife came to me with the idea that she and our 19 year old daughter had the idea to start making candles as a business. Naturally, as I am with everything, I went into research mode. I have been researching and purchasing things for them to get started. Currently I have GW464 wax. I am questioning if that was the right wax to start with. With the mail being delayed we have yet to get a first batch in. Looking to do so this weekend. Do you have any tips for working with this wax? I’ll be watching your other videos as well. Thank you for all the great information, you are the first I have left a comment to after watching many videos on KZfaq.
@BlackTieBarn

Thanks for that great feedback Randy. Yes, I will be adding so much more. I will have a bit of a delay while we are relocating and setting back up (gonna take while). But, i will get back to videos in a week or so of some kind. To answer your question, its no secret 464 is not one of my favorite waxes. I don't like the look nor do I like the performance of the HT. Other than that... its great! 😁 No wax is perfect they all have pros and cons. I prefer 6006 over 464 for sure. Its tough to wick sometimes but much more reliable. I also like problend 600 and joy wax because they are so easy to use. But they can also be somewhat picky on FOs and good HT. I haven't found a perfect wax... but I am always looking. I will continue to post more and more on waxes I try. Also, just wanted to say that I love the idea you are doing this with your daughter. I have three boys.mm ages 14, 11, and 4. They all help where they can. My 4 year old obviously can't do anything, lol. But he likes to pretend. :)

Great video. Do you use any additive to the 6006 to harden it up for the hot summers or any that you know of?
@BlackTieBarn
@BlackTieBarn 3 жыл бұрын
I do not. 6006 isn't exactly hard like you indicated but it's not near as soft as most parasoys. It's nelt point of about 133 where not the others are like 120 at best. So its better than others, but yes... can still be tricky in super hot weather. You can ship with gel packs though. Vybar would firm it up a tough but only raise the melt point by a degree or 2. And you don't want to add it to 6006 as 6006 already includes vybar

Hi Wade! Is there a standard percentage of fragrance oil you use or would recommend using in 6006? 6% -10%? Thank you so much for all the great tips and videos!
@BlackTieBarn
@BlackTieBarn 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Sonya... I know you already saw my answer in the group, but just in case others here want to see my answer. I use 6% - 9% generally depending on strength of the FO. 6% for really strong FOs and 9% for lighter ones. Hope this helps!

Hi wayde I just subscribed and love your videos and have made many notes. I just purchased the 6006 for wax melts but would like them a little firmer. I have in hand some 464 and a bit of paraffin would any of these help if so what ratio would you suggest ? Thank you
@BlackTieBarn
@BlackTieBarn 3 жыл бұрын
Sure. You are correct, 6006 alone isn't great for melts. I would add a hard paraffin personally... like 4625. 70/30 or 50/50 mix works well. :)

Hi Wade. I'm just starting, that's to say I just made my 1st 2 candles and it's currently curing. 24 hours have definitely passed since I poured but I was waiting for another 24 hours to allow it to cure. However, you mentioned, it should be good to go once the candle is fully solid (I'm paraphrasing). So am I good to burn my candle after 24 hours?
@BlackTieBarn
@BlackTieBarn 3 жыл бұрын
Most people will tell you .. it depends. You can start burning to test the wick after a day or two for sure. If you want to test entire experience including HT, it may depend on your wax. All candles will get a bit better HT with more time. Paraffin and 6006 don't need much time but soy like 464 you might not smell anymore weeks. Just depends on how well the FO works with your wax.

Hi there I’m new to candle making how much wax did you use for 4 candles 🕯 and fragrance how much? to use ? What size of vessel jar would you recommend for someone starting out making candles and is on a budget Great info thanks for video
@BlackTieBarn
@BlackTieBarn 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I start with something simple like a Mason jar or jelly jar. In the ones I made they were about 7 oz. So if using a 10% fragrance load it would be roughly 6oz of wax and .6o of oil for example. Then multiple that buy 4 for four candles

Very informative! I’m having some issues obtaining a fragrant high throw with IGI 6006, HTP wicks, and the straight sided tumbler Libbey. Any suggestions or pointers you can maybe offer?
@BlackTieBarn
@BlackTieBarn 3 жыл бұрын
Thats a tough jar to wick actually. What FO are you using and from what supplier. 6006 has good HT overall but still need quality oils, so I always start with checking the FOs. You can also try double wicking that jar with two really small wicks. Lile 2 htp 52s or 62s as a starting point. I'd also try 2 premier 725s or 735s. Again, those are just my best guessed for a starting point. I don't use that jar specifically but wood wicks can work in that size as well. Either way, I would start with your oils. Try several. If you get good HT with most the others, its probably just not a great oil.

Thank you for your time and response, I greatly appreciate it. I have been having a very difficult time getting started. Here is my most recent breakdown: The flaming Candle Co.- Hawaiian Pink Hibiscus 6% FO; heated until 180*; FO added at 160*, And stirred slowly for approx. 2 minutes; Poured at 150*. I didn’t warm the vessels this time. HTP-73 mushrooming, poor HO, not full melt pool. I previously had been using all Candle Science FO. I switched from the Libbey 917CD to the straight sided tumbler.

Again, learned a lot! I expanded that end shot to look at how you list the notes. I'm wanting to do that on mine. Do you list ALL the notes and in what order are they listed? I'm looking at the CS Blue Spruce and those notes aren't the same as what you have on your label, but they did also redo their scents since this video. I'm currently waiting on an order with my first Blue Spruce and that color blue was almost what I had in mind, and I think I love it more than what I wanted lol

When I pour my fragrance oil in to my wax it cools the wax down at least 14 degrees which don’t give me enough time to stir and pour timely. Is there anything I can do to help with this? I use IGI 6006. Any advice?
@BlackTieBarn
@BlackTieBarn 3 жыл бұрын
What temp are you pouring at? Yes, 6006 being 70% paraffin will cool quicker than all soy for example. But that can also be a positive for other reasons. My advice is to add fo around 180-185. This is enough time to add it and stir. You also don't need to stir a fully 2 minutes. That is sort of a myth that started because people were blending well enough so it became a safe rule to follow to ensure proper blending. But, honestly... if you add your fo around 180-185 and mix it well for a good 45 seconds to a minute. You are good to go. Another things some people do is warm their oils before adding. I've never done this nor needed to. But you could try it if push comes to shove. :)

Hey Edgar. Fortunately, htps should be coming back fairly soon from what I hear. Thst being said, wicks are hard to really be interchangeable. I use the medium straight-sided jars as well, but with 464. I tried the HTP-83, but there was too much hang-up left on the side of the jar. I've found that the HTP-105 seems to do the trick, but burns a little hot, and the HTP-104 was also leaving hang-up (not as much as the HTP-83). Do you have any suggestions, or is the HTP-105 good enough in my case?
@BlackTieBarn
@BlackTieBarn 3 жыл бұрын
I dont use 464 in that jar so the best I can do is speculate. I would have thought that 104 would have been good in most cases just based off experience. But, of course it will depend on the FO as well. It may vary a couple sizes between FOs. Personally, I prefer a tad of hang up verses being over wicked and too hot. One is much more of a problem than the other. Also ,much of the hang up should catch up further down the jar. Not always and necessarily all of the hangup... but as long as its relatively clean sides.... you have a winner. The problem with aiming for ZERO hangup and perfectly clean jars... is that you need to over wick most of the time. Paraffin can do it, because it burns easier (generally). Bu with soy and because soy can be tacky and stick to the sides really well, can be tough to get completely gone. It is a common characteristic with 464.

Hey Dan. I have used the HTP wicks a bit. It may be just my experience, but they SEEM to be slightly hotter than the previous ones. Perhaps enough that they equate to one size larger. But that is still relatively small sample size as far as testing goes. It may be worth asking what others' experiences have been as well. That being said, I still have stock of the previous HTP's which is why I haven't really needed to use the new ones much yet. But I will eventually. Lol. I dont use AS many HTP's as I used to just because I use a lot of Premier 700s as well. all depends on the wax and jar I am using. Regarding CD wicks. It's not so much that I dont like them..... I just dont like them with the wax and jars I use specifically. They workfine in waxes like 464, 444, etc. So I guess that would be the answer to the 2nd part of your question. :)

Absolutely you can. Blends are common. But you will want to make sure the wax you are getting is suitable or made for candle making. For example, without know the kind of paraffin wax the beekeeper is using i am not sure. I would assume it may work. But you'd need to know some important details like the melt point, max FO load, etc. You will probably need to add vybar to it as well. You could also blend the soy and coconut or any combination. Csndle science, lonestar,l rarely let me down. Natures garden is good overall. Aztec is my least favorite because some ate good and some are not. Inconsistent and thrur customer service is lacking.
