Its really hard to sympathise with Candyman when he keeps trying to seduce and or kill his grand daughters...the original movie made him sympathetic and Helen was hinted to have been a descendant or spiritual re incarnation of his old love...everything in the sequels is just wierd and makes little sense. He lives on through his descendants so he should want them alive...and if he wants them all dead so that his and carolines bloodlines die out completly, why try and be seductive at all?

Why couldn’t they have Helen become the legend in the sequel, have Anthony be the protagonist of the sequel, and have Candyman and Helen try to make Anthony their son so they can be a legendary family? That’s way more cool than these dragged on sequels!!

Agreed, it seemed really creepy and off topic and twisted his character and I loved the genius hinting in the first one, but I wish that they didn't make a sequel, but if they did It would make sense if they continued with Helen being the urban legend

I personally always liked the depiction of his death in this one more than the second film, the dark setting and the fact that he looks more in pain while getting stung by the bees just made it look more traumatic and more like torchure along with him being tied to a tree.

As someone who’s grown up around voodoo, it always makes me laugh how inaccurate they’re portrayed in movies, especially horror flicks. My grandmother saw the bloody egg scene once and was like “Ah she trying to get pregnant?” No “Wah ah dere an egg?” It’s fiction, Nana. “Well it’s wrang!” 🤣🤣

That's a really interesting cultural difference! In Mexican and Mexican-American folk practices, eggs can be used to draw out negative energy/curses like in the movie. Though from what I've read there's more of a process around it and the egg is rubbed on, touched, or passed over the person's body. The egg absorbs whatever is afflicting the person, and then it's cracked open. Though, my understanding is that it's done into a glass of water not just onto a plate. (So the movie still isn't a great portrayal haha) I'm assuming there's a similar practice in Voodoo that has to do with pregnancy rather than spiritual cleansing? It's cool how different cultures can develop similar practices without direct contact, even when the meanings are different.

The new one is like Halloween 2018, it's a direct sequel to the original that ignores the sequels. It's about the baby boy that Helen saved. Sadly, while Tony Todd is coming back, Virginia Madsen is not.

@jackson Accepting that not wearing a bra already makes you a "sex object" is already part of the problem. How about a woman who enjoys nudity, acknowledges it's fun and harmless, does not do it to advertise herself, and does not care whether or not some kid will get a boner because of it. Now that would be a nice attitude - and hardly anything to giggle about (unless you are that kid with a boner).
