Thank you for all of the information Sarah. I have recently feel in love with this breed and I am looking to get my first CC soon. In doing my research on breeders, breed standard, etc. I have seen a lot of infighting within the community between breeders and CC owners alike on everything from talking down about one another to bashing individual dogs. What you’ve created is one of the most informative and unbiased videos I’ve seen on the breed and has just made my love for the breed that much stronger. Thanks again!

I have a male corso with MANY champion and grand champion relatives in his bloodline. Most notably Diguardia's Prince del Cerberus who was one of the founding Corso studs in the U.S. Yet, our male corso, Thanos, does not have the super short muzzle and super long jowls. He is also on the smaller and leaner side only weighing 100 lbs @ 18 months. He definitely looks more like the original Italian

Great video Sarah! Is it more so the Corso that is so controversial..or " all pure breeds" I am glad to have found you..someone, a well rounded breeder... who has a passion for the dog, and not so much about the prestige or the money, I do understand they do have a part play in the overall wellbeing of the breed...but shouldn't be one of there priorities , I know there is lots of good breeders out there. health should be number one priority, over who's dog is the best, instead of being caught in all the snobbery " my dogs better than your dogs, protect the health and safety of the breed.
@canecorsochronicles510
@canecorsochronicles510 4 жыл бұрын
I think each purebred definitely has its controversy. The corso has so much politics involved that many good and ethical breeders have been pushed out and moved onto other breeds. I can't say majority of breeders are breeding for health but I am also learning you can't trust opinions. So it will be a long journey to the truth but I will be sharing my full opinion in pt 2!

I love this breed, and love the history involved. I may be weird, but one of my favorite things about it, is that we cannot quite nail down exactly the history involved, and the reason is largely due to the fact that the Cane Corso is the ultimate utility dog. It can, and has, done everything. I have spent over a decade working with one of the founders of, and former Presidents of the ACCA, Brian Ward of Valkyrie Cane Corso. Unfortunately, he has gotten really fed up with the Corso community at large, and has retired from breeding the breed. Like you said, there is a LOT of politics and infighting regarding what should be the breed standard, and which direction the breed should go. One thing that I loved about Brian's approach was that he was entirely focused on FUNCTION. As you mentioned, this was the emphasis that breeders of old had regarding most breeds. He was breeding dogs that were the epitome of Athletic Mastiffs, with the temperaments we customarily expect out of the breed. As a result, his dogs were some of the only Corso's from American breeders that the traditional Italian breeders would buy from. I was fortunate enough to enlist his support, in selecting the perfect dog for me. It took 10 years, and hundreds of litters, but we got her! Storm of the Bayeaux (AKC name), we call her "Riot", is from a well known sire (ALCOR's) "Welcome to the Jungle" (Westminster BOO 2020), and her dam is from the Valkyrie line. So, we have a beautiful athletic Corso, from both a well established and respected true working line, and from a well established show line. Thank you for putting together this video. Sure, it airs some dirty laundry, but honestly, people need to know their dogs. They need to know what to expect with the breed. These type of videos do exactly that.
@canecorsochronicles510

Thank you so much for sharing!!! Yeah I can relate to Brian, I too am likely going to get a different breed next. Way too much politics out there and people not doing what’s best for the breed. Also, so many health issues popping up. I apparently bought from two lines that have never had epilepsy and I’ve already lost two pups from my one litter to it. Heartbreaking too see. I’m glad there’s at least some good people in the breed that can hopefully keep some good lines going.

Very well researched history on the breed. I have had multiple Cane Corsos since 2005, and I am in love the breed. But the history and politics has been interesting. My last 2 Corsos were ICCF registered, and my breeder is no longer breeding and I have not been able to contact him for more information. He started breeding Corsos in the late 1990s early 2000s. The way you laid out your research was awesome and filled in gaps I was curious about, but yes there are still gaps and politics. My Corsos were related to the Bel Monte dogs. That was fun to find out more about that. Thank you,

Great video with a lot of information. In my area there's a small group of people that fight over who has, and doesn't have an "original" corso. I have a 5 1/2 month old corso that already weighs 80lbs. He's very well behaved and I started training him from day 1. He'll most likely be about 175-180 full grown. I truly don't care if he's not "a real corso". He's very loving, intelligent, and protective. Everyone at the local dog park loves him (except the corso "judges"). It's just funny how people fight about this.

I'm subscribing to your channel after watching this video. I'm not sure if maybe you're trying to possibly improve the presentation of your speaking voice or studying up on your videography skills or if you're just getting more comfortable filming yourself but this video, content aside, is MUCH easier to listen to than previous videos you've posted! It just flows way better and sounds more natural...maybe less nervous...idk? Seeing/hearing ourselves on video can be so awkward and eye opening lol. And for viewers sake sometimes we need to examine ourselves and try to make vids more "viewer-friendly" if you will. I hope I'm making sense and not just reaching here. Regardless, your speech in this video was a lot better than previous ones! As far as content we need more videos like this. I hope you continue to research literature on the subject and continue to help educate people and fill in some of these blanks we're finding in their history! Also I've seen it mentioned several times online but could only find one article that mentions other breeds being bred into Corsi during their resurrection in the US myself. It makes a lot of sense that it would have happened and considering the wide range of variances in different bloodlines of dogs that are all supposed to be "pure" Corsi I highly suspect it happened at some point. But if it did and the lineage of some corsi even born today can be traced back to the original 6 (or whatever they're called. I forget.) Then why wouldn't at least some lines have those other breeds mentioned in their pedigree? Were breeders maybe ashamed? Was there a cover-up?.... this has always been a big question in my mind because I really think I see some boxer in my CC but then again she also looks like many standard corsi. (She is a rescue so I have no clue about her bloodline) Thanks for posting. Sorry so long!
@marybowman4847
@marybowman4847 3 жыл бұрын
Also about the variances I realize they could be related to the fact that CC vary widely even in Italy so could be related but it seems to be different variations between CC bred in the US as compared to those from the old country. Those variances I'm referring to are from those bred in the US. All of which, to my knowledge, came from the orginal 6 (at least up until a certain point when others began importing more) Also I'm not really familiar with pedigrees and bloodlines and how they work so maybe I'm missing something.

Thank you for noticing I have definitely done a lot of work in researching this video and wrote out a script. Given the importance of the history and the lack of information you can find in one place I wanted to put a lot of work into this video. however I've already found more evidence since creating this video so I will definitely do a follow-up. We know for sure that there is cross breeding and if you watch my video after this I speak to some of my opinions on it however some of the new evidence people have sent me makes me wonder if my opinion is wrong and the super 6 are not really true corsos!?! Nobody will go on record to tell the truth because a lot of people still use the original lines from the super 6. all three of my dogs can be traced back on at least half their lineage to the super 6. So it's quite sad to know but over the years other lines have been added in including imports. I've also had some people challenge me saying that no boxer has been mixed into the lines since the recovery of the breed. It just so happens that the biggest titled Corso in history for the most part has the boxer face and because he had so many championships he was used in so many programs and his genes still show up today. Definitely more to come on these topics but I also hope the original community doesn't get too offended and that I'm airing our breeds dirty laundry 🧐

The Cane Corso really looks like a smaller version of Neapolitan Mastiff. They are many Neapolitan Mastiffs that don't have as many wrinkles on the skin and normally they are not at shows because of the breed standards but I have seen them in backyard guarding houses. Also the Corso is more square then a Neapolitan Mastiff. In my opinion the Italians have used Neapolitan Mastiff and possibly old style Russian version of Boxer to rebuild the breed. In order to creat the short muzzle and more square body you need a dog like this the only dog that matches is the old Style large working Russian version of the Boxer.

Today’s Cane Corso’s come from Neapolitan Mastiffs! That’s why the overwhelming majority of Cane Corso’s in America and Italy have Neapolitan Mastiff RNA within their DNA. Neapolitan Mastiff’s do not have any Cane Corso RNA within their Genome DNA. So no today’s version of dogs known as Cane Corso’s and a Mastino don’t come from the same dog. It’s impossible….. If you have a child your son or daughter will have your RNA within its DNA because they come from you…. You will never have your son or daughters RNA within your DNA because you don’t come from them! So just from a Genome Sequencing & Scientific Standpoint…. It’s impossible for the dogs today known of as Cane Corso and a Neo to come from the same dog when the Cane Corso comes from the Neo!

The traditional CC should have a scissors bite; the Italian Kennel Club got it wrong here asking for an undershot jaw. M. Sottile breeds old type Neapolitan Mastiffs. "Corso" is an old term for "body" so that CC translates "body dog". This is the way mastiffs used as cattle dogs and for hunting were called. Bonatti knew about the dog but he had never seen it; he wrote to me asking to find it..

What I know is that it all is not Possible to know... But I will attempt to offer a comment that may provide a glimpse of my understanding.... The term "Pure Breed" Really deceived and skewed the general public's opinion of what a good dog is and where a good dog comes from. "pedigree" is the Process of largely falsifying I dogs history... Beware of doctors, society's, organizations,and even clubs... If you ever have the opportunity to breed a dog for any purpose (working breed, cosmetics, or even for profit)...your eyes will be opened to the Game...lastly... Everybody desires a dog that fits their exact needs With the minimal amount of training necessary to do so.... Most people really feel A "smart dog" is a dog that learns what you want quickly... A "good dog" is a dog that fits your size requirement as well as Obedience.... A "great dog" is simply a "smart dog"+ "good dog" that lived a long life but has passed away. Pure breed, pedigree, Bloodline Are all terms used to promise a great dog.... Even all that said I love my Corsos...

Yeah honestly I couldn't agree more with your comment. this video took 2 weeks away from my life that I will never get back because I was so shocked at some of the history and I've already learned since this video just a few weeks ago that I was incorrect on some things. there's a lot of information I have to put out there but I haven't figured out how to do it without totally hurting myself in the process but the truth does need to be shared. And unfortunately many people are scared to share the truth as well because it's become a bribing game in this breed. If you speak up the gang will try and tear you to shreds. I am very fortunate that I have a good training club nearby that truly just cares about the dogs at least from what I can tell. I personally just really enjoy working my dogs in the sports and don't want to be a major target as mysteriously some dogs have died at AKC events before. But yes I don't know the full truth yet but I am getting closer and the biggest issue seems to be what happened in America. And it all seems to be run by greed. 😫

Have you noticed that Europeans like to Keep the hierarchy of Civilization... And in America We have fully submitted to this Belief. Historically there are some that have had the white line on their head but to have a whole litter like that seems more likely to be a mixed breeding with another breed. It is rare to see them and is much more common to see black/grey and tan markings like a Rottweiler than the white stripe. If you have Instagram I can show you some full bred corsos that have it but there isn’t many!

Can you send me a picture of her fur? Also her breeder information? Sometimes it can be the breeder as they have not done their due diligence in breeding or even worse they are lying to you to make money. Is your girl grey in color? Most grey dogs are susceptible to coat issues. I would also get a new vet as they should it be afraid of her.
@damaristighe3227
@damaristighe3227 2 жыл бұрын
mange comes from dilute colour genes - greys and formantinos are much more susceptible to these problems. Corso's bones can be shot by too much exercise while they are growing. Size is much less of a problem if the dog is a well-balanced and structured dog. Beware of overfeeding - you get a fat dog with bad legs not a big dog.

USA dogs produce tri color or pointed dogs all the time... only a few Italian lines have boxer... but some Italian kennels introduced high voltage meaning the introduced some incorrect blood... high voltage is half USA and half Italian

Why mutilate it? I love my corso's ears and tail. The ears stop infection and help its hearing. He communicates so much with his tail.
@canecorsochronicles510
@canecorsochronicles510 2 жыл бұрын
Valid points with the tail but my line has ear infections with long ears on the east coast only. If you have multiple corso crop and docking prevent injuries . I have a ton of pictures of injuries because I wanted to be sure what breeders were saying is true. But if you have one corso and live somewhere with lines that don’t cause ear infections you don’t need to do either. Definitely pros and cons depending on your situation
