Hi Guys!! Welcome back to my channel & being part of the familia! 🦋
In this video.. We repair a Marcel Breuer Cesca Armchair, we found on the side of the road! Can you believe it! Don't sleep on garbage day, one man's trash is another's treasure! As well as updating a small side table I found for only $4! One's again I strive to give you genuine content of how difficult some of these DIYs can be, the process was a bit tedious but in my opinion it was totally worth it! No tools were necessary other than a screwdriver and maybe a spoon lol ( watch the video). As far as the supplies I used they were totally affordable since I was cautious of the amount I was buying. With that being said, I recommend you search for a cane store near you before purchasing online (wayyy cheaper). Mine was only about $28 vs hundreds on other people's videos. This video or project would not have been made possible without Gio's help, the cane man's advice and a cool dude on youtube with a great video on how to remove rust. Which in my opinion, was the part I was most concerned about. With all that being said please enjoy this process and don’t t forget to tag me if you found this video helpful!

Love this video. Cesca chairs were actually first made in 1928 in the Bauhaus style

I can't thank you enough for this video. I'm restoring my parents' 1975 Breuer dining room set and one chair needs new cane backing on the back. It's pretty expensive to purchase new replacements and they're not offered on the original colors so what's a girl to do? I'll be giving this a try. I hope it works! 🤞

Hi there!! Thank you for the great video! Wondering where you bought the cane/spline? I live in LA and I’ve visited the fabric district here a few times and haven’t had any luck :/

I wanted this style chair for dining table desperately but def wasn’t in my budget and I finally had given up and drive to a goodwill to just find SOMETHING, right when I walked in they were putting 4 of these out 🤯🥹 and they were 8 bucks a piece! Literally the day I had given up on my dream chairs! Thank you for this, I was wondering if they would last me and now I know I can do it myself!

Hey Lili!! I just acquired 3 of these for free that some lady was getting rid of XD 2/3 of the backs need new caning, with cushions on the bottom (not cane) and no armrests. I actually also live in LA and just stopped by Cane & Wood today!! They were explaining how I could do it myself and my more crafty friend who was with me thought it seemed like too much work. I'm hesitant to spend the $90 for each chair for them to cane it for me and I also think I would feel so accomplished doing it myself, but also don't want to regret it and feel in over my head. This kind of stuff does not come naturally to me. How much of an undertaking was this, and how time consuming was just the back without the armrest or bottom? Evaluating my options here!!

I have these chairs for years and they have not been used. Just sat on one and it creaked a little. I live in a dry climate, should I be conditioning them somehow?

They look great. I can tell one chair is smaller, but I don't know if smaller means authentic or non-authentic.
@lilibritosa
@lilibritosa 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! I believe the taller one is "more authentic" (still not sure on it 🤔) It has the most intricate work in the wood frame and chrome bars! 🤞🏼

What is the material called that you pushed into the canal after gluing the cane?
@lilibritosa
@lilibritosa 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Blakely! Its called a spline, its used to push and keep the cane in its place.🤗 I would measure the original one you take out or take a piece to your local vendor to make sure you get the correct one, since the size of the canals can vary! 💖Best of luck!!

how much did the cane replacement cost? :)
@lilibritosa
@lilibritosa 3 жыл бұрын
Hi babe! I think in total I only spent about $18 on the cane and spline but possibly $35 including the wood glue, wood stain, and the steel wool! nothing crazy. I would definitely try to find a local cane store than ordering it online this may be cheaper. 💖

from my research, the right one is the real one and the left one is a reproduction of it by another company.

Mam saw this video now by chance and liked it very much I saw this video only for the chair but one small request kindly visit a nearby dentist in your neighborhood and get the filling done in between your front 2teeth since the gap looks awkward in the video think it over thanks
