As a veteran hip hop fan @ 39 years of age, I can tell you that when Canibus first came out he was instantly hated and/or feared by rappers who felt they were the best, and honored by rappers who simply loved elite lyricists. He was lyrically ahead of his time. Songs like this, and others on this album and his Rip The Jcker album is something that no other rapper has done. Aggressive delivery of such sophisticated lyricism, along with an advanced battle-type style is an accomplishment of Canibus that stands alone, unchallenged because rappers understand how very rare and unusual Canibus is as a rapper. Simply can't be duplicated.

idk tbh all he does is say a bunch of esoteric sounding words that rhyme with each other. it's a great track for sure, especially compared to what passes for "music" nowadays, but it's not like he's saying actually intelligent stuff. this would be called "pseudointellectualism" by some
@mato_fato_ma-ah-fala-falafel
@mato_fato_ma-ah-fala-falafel 3 жыл бұрын
@@jhanks2012 esoteric is a very subjective word. Even common sense is esoteric. Esoteric or not, the shit he says surpasses surface level interest. The way bis intertwines his braggadocios emcee shit with what you consider as “esoteric” knowledge, works. It’s believable coz he’s about it and that’s what’s impressive. Irrespective of whether his penmanship is above today’s standard of music or even back then, no one in the history of song writing can easily pick up a pen and write like this. I didn’t even know wtf what he meant when he said in a freestyle, “that’s double the clock speeds of a 586”. Come to find out he was talking about the number of cycles a cpu can execute per second and even more than an intel pentium processor in the 586 P5 generation. “The laser guided, lyrical hybrid, writing rhymes so sick I have to arm wrestle my pen to write it.” - Bis

Finessed Analyzer you gotta hear this whole album "Mic Club:The Cirriculum" and it's follow up "Rip the Jacker' and in 2007 he released "For Whom the Beat Tolls" and in 2010 he had two albums "Melatonin Majik" and "C of Tranquility" to "Lyrical Law" to an album not many liked, a concept album in "Fait Accompli" to tomorrow his new album, if you think he lost something, check out, "Time Flies, Life Dies Phoenix Rise" which is interesting, featuring Dizaster - they released three songs from it already

I started listening to Canibus as a teen in the late 90's and it was clear he was the Greatest Lyricist of All Time. However, something about him drove other rappers crazy. I think hearing someone do what you do, at such a level you know is unattainable, is hard. His verses challenged every other rapper in such as way, it was either they hate to maintain their own false hope they're the best, or you love him and showed mad respect. He shook the community. How can you put someone on your song spitting like that, you would be outshined. I do wish he had a better ability though to connect with the masses. Unfortunately, his storytelling method was too technical for most. But then again he wouldn't be Canibus if he tried to dumb down his lyrics.
