Barry is so sweet, wondering if he can trust Kush, then doing what Kush says anyway; asking Ben to be nice, and being almost proud of Ben for guessing that it's all tinned food. Mike on the other hand always looks so flustered. I had to pause and catch my breath when Kush asked if he was happy with his dish and Mike just went no, no, no. He second-guessed himself, but he still pulled it together at the end. I also love how the boys always bring to attention when someone else is screwing up so that nobody misses out on the fun. Even when they're all intently focused on their own dish, they will call each others attention. Kush did that today, asking Mike to look at what Barry was doing. Jamie's dad jokes are amazing, and everyone else is catching on to them and it's the best thing. Also, how sweet is Ben when he tells them he's sure there were a lot of barriers in the challenge cuz he knows they both cook better than this. He has so much faith in them, its so sweet!

Barry inadvertently missed that medieval pies were actually a form of canning. The food was wrapped in a very, very tough dough that wasn't inedible but neither was meant to be eaten. Then the whole thing was baked so that the inside was sterilized and the pie could be saved with no refrigeration for weeks, or even months. When it came time to eat, the outer crust was just removed and the inside was eaten.

The points of having ingredients in a tin is that they last a long time, and in America we can definitely get tomato paste in a tin. In fact, I have to go to the ethnic food aisle to get it in a tube for some reason. So I would say that the tomato paste does follow the spirit of the challenge. If we want to split hairs, none of those are in tin cans. They are all in aluminum cans. Sorry aluminium cans.

Not quite in the same vein, but what about something like "All reused?" Where every component of the dish has to be taken from a preexisting dish (Barry pulling the garlic out of the olives and stealing the pie tops inspired this haha). Could be a cool way to use up leftovers if they ever end up with a surplus, or if they never really end up with that much from the show itself it could just be crew members bringing in stuff they want to get rid of from their own fridges.

i think it'd be interesting to see anybody (chefs or normals!) dress up premade supermarket meals -- a lot of places make them with things in the store that are closer to going off but haven't sold, in a last-ditch effort to reduce waste, so in that sense it could fit in with sorted's anti-waste ideology. but the meals themselves are often pretty bland, like vaguely seasoned salmon and green beans -- so it'd be cool to see ways to spruce them up!
@elven_grandma3138
@elven_grandma3138 11 ай бұрын
All dried could be interesting: Various dried meats, plenty of dried fruit, freeze-dried veg, freeze-dried soups for sauces, dried pasta, even freeze dried packet meals!... - it would have tons of flavour, but getting the right colour & texture could be tricky, since drying (& rehydrating) changes those, & it might be hard to balance such concentrated flavours
@elven_grandma3138
@elven_grandma3138 11 ай бұрын
A half-cooked challenge could also be interesting: things like finish at home bakery goods, tins of fruit & veg, which are technically cooked, but could do with cooking again to bring them up nicely, various microwave & freezer meals....

Jamie described Baz to absolute perfection only 20 seconds into the video when he needlessly highlighted that he was trying to open a can using a can opener and ignoring the ring pull that would’ve stopped him struggling 😂😂 the Barry that we’ve all grown to love and cherish over the years has unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately, given himself the stereotype of being a bit slow and dim bless him, and he’s been trying to shake this perception he’s got yet takes a step forward and then 3 steps back 😂

In the 1970s we used to have a meal once a week called " if its" as in if it's in the tin. The tins came from Devonport dockyard off ships in for refit, and hence had no labels. So as a family (4) we would each chose a tin and then have an opening ceremony. Basis of the evening could be, potatoes, peach halves, chicken soup and custard, however strange the combination it always seemed to work out.

It's important to remember, you CAN cook tinned food that could be confused with fresh food (confit duck) however, usually ONLY tinned food is pushing that a bit too far
