Barnes wrote the most disturbing lyrics and was able to promote brutality to a whole new level, of not for Barnes I don’t think cannibal corpse would be considered the best death metal band ever, and his vocals were just brutally deep, something that made my emo roommate go to church

Yeah, ever since Chris and CC parted ways Cannibal Corpse hasn't been the same. They're still amazing and easily my favorite band, but Barnes brought something special to the band that just couldn't be replaced. Like a gory B-Horror movie that became an instant classic. Those first 4 albums from Cannibal Corpse are still the most brutal and shocking recordings in Death Metal.

thats because if we are being honest witj chris there was appeal just based on how he looked. With the new line up i think of mall metal. Hasnt been a good album since the bleeding

I don't think they're the best death metal band, but I'd give it to them for their consistency and longevity. And I happen to be emo who listen to CC and heavier bands, seems like your roommate is just p*ssy.
