As a kid, if I saw this Cannon logo before a movie, I knew I was going to have a good time with an action-packed flick with ninjas, commandos or vigilante cops. Man, I loved those days!

the first film I ever watched in a cinema as a kid was a cannon film. my favourite movie logo. takes me back to the 80s.
My favorite Cannon Films were Cobra and Over the Top. Whenever you saw that Cannon logo and the names Golan & Globus, you knew you were in for a treat.

Not Always. Avenging Force, the American Ninja sequels (2, 3, 4 etc.), Banco, Allan Quatermain, Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo, Enter The Ninja, Rappin', He-Man & The Masters Of The Universe & Superman 4 were BIG FLOPS...

Cannon.. good childhood memories. The 80's wouldn't be the same without Cannon. When Cannon is mentioned, i also think of Orion and Carolco. The 3 biggest action companies of the 80's perhaps. Cannon had a rule. If any movie budget was less than 5 million $, or wss it 1 million $, it was impossible to lose money on it. Many of these low budget movies is praised, and still remembered by people all over the world. Menahem and Globus made movies quickly and cheap, and yet so many became classics. :) Trivia: MGM got the rights to Cannon and Orion movies, but i'm unsure about Carolco. Carolco was the only of these that made high budget movies too. Terminator 2, Cutthroat Island and Total Recall to name a few.
@V3ntilator8 жыл бұрын
+Yoram Globus : Orion were actually resurrected in 2014. Some new movies in 2015 have the original 80's logo btw.
@chindleymuffin8 жыл бұрын
+V3ntilator Ironically Cutthroat Island was the movie that single handedly killed Carolco Pictures, it was a MASSIVE flop at the box office (only making $10 million), was wildly over budget (a reported $98 Million) and had endured a notoriously troubled and chaotic production. Was a wonder anything got filmed, from what I gathered.
@V3ntilator8 жыл бұрын
Thats true. The movie lacked big name actors, and was its biggest fault. Since the movie was so expensive, they couldn't afford to hire expensive celebrities. The movie itself is cool i think, and i have seen it 3-4 times. Whats weird is that right after this failure, Disney made their own big budget popcorn pirate movie based only on a theme park attraction...It had a few celebs, and is why it didn't fail. Pirates of the Carribean. Its as much popcorn action as Cutthroat Island, and didn't have much better story. Personally i think Cutthroat the is the coolest of the two.
@chindleymuffin8 жыл бұрын
The thing is the Pirates Of The Caribbean movie was funny, it had great choreography (the action scenes were amazing to watch), the characters were well written and it worked mainly due to Johnny Depp's outstanding/outlandish performance. I think they lost that humour with the second and third films because they felt more overly serious in tone (only slightly funny), that was a bad move. The slapstick moments felt forced in the sequels, where as they felt natural and almost accidental in the first film. It felt to me like the Disney execs had a bit too much say in those other two films (probably due to a bigger budget), it just didn't have the same feeling to it that the original had. The fourth film felt a bit better, as they tried to inject the humour back into it and toned down on the seriousness a bit. I just wonder if they can capture the magic again for the new one that is currently in production.

+chindleymuffin : Yeah. It went a bit downhill. POTA 5 is directed by 2 Norwegians, and i wonder how that turns out.
