I don't think he quite understood at 3 years old the difference between good guys and bad guys. He just liked the action part. Over the years we would watch this show together or just quote it all the time. Utah, get me 2. Lol. My son passed away in 2023 at the age of 31. I miss him so much it hurts to breathe sometimes. Watching these scenes, this movie......I feel him with me. And it makes me smile so big remembering him at 3 years old shaking his butt saying, the little hand says it's time to rock & roll......🥲

6:25 is heartbreaking when Johnny knows this will be the last time he sees or speaks to Bodhi, no matter what these two have been through and even if they are on different sides of the law, they remember how they met, and they became friends and bonded only like best friends can bond, especially when Bodhi backed Johnny up against those punks from before. If Johnny didn't truly care for Bodhi then he wouldn't have let him go out the way he wanted to. To me the most heartbreaking aspect of it all is the friendship had to come to an end because of them being on both sides of the law, and I feel that Johnny was hurt from this and he knew his life as FBI agent was done, he couldn't go back to that life anymore especially when it took his best friend, no matter what Bodhi chose as a lifestyle, he always had Johnny's back and loved him like a brother.

God I love this scene. While Utah is clearly not there to let him walk or have his moment with the waves, there's still respect between them. Bodhi feels the same way, and it shows with such simple dialogue. Commenting he 'knew he could count on Utah', asking him if he still surfs. In the midst of explaining how far he went to track him down, clearly still aiming to arrest him and make him pay for his role in everything... he still takes the time to answer Bodhi with the truth, and shows the influence Bodhi had on him. I love that small nod of Bodhi, a hint of a smile, proud of Johnny for continuing to embrace life to the fullest rather than who he used to be. I like to think that influence led to Johnny tossing his badge in the ocean, walking away from that life and starting anew. I might be way off but just my thoughts from this scene. I'm glad Bodhi got the ending he wanted, going out the way he wanted: all go, no stop. RIP Patrick. You were such an amazing talent.

@@silvercloud1641 That makes no sense. First, you don't "learn to sell fish". You learn *to* fish, and once you have one and someone wants it, you sell it to them. That's the end of the sales tutorial... Second, in order to sell fish with any consistency you'd have to catch a whole bunch of them first. Especially if you want to eat for a lifetime. That doesn't sound like enlightenment, that sounds like getting a job at a fish market. Also, how is selling a fish going to help you eat for a lifetime? How much do you think each fish is worth? And the dude lives on an island...everyone can fish. Who's his market and how deep do you think it is that he'll be set for a lifetime? And third, what if you rob a man for enough money that you never have to fish again? Money can get you everything, included food that isn't fish. Wouldn't that be a pretty good strat too? And make for a wayyy better plot to a movie than a dude opening a fish n chips shop 😂

Those of you commenting that the final wave that ended Bodi was "tame" compared to today's "big wave" rides and need to consider the historical context: This movie was released in 1991, 7 years before the groundbreaking "Biggest Wednesday, Condition Black," the first ever on film, tow-surfing escapade that took place at Jaws and Outer Log Cabins and which opened the doors to "big wave" surfing that is common today. So back in 1990, the public hadn't yet seen "big wave" surfing and had no idea that waves 30+ft high could be paddled and surfed (because it wasn't being done hardly at all). I still remember seeing this film for the first time and being awestruck by how "huge" the waves were (these were close-out waves at Waimea). The "stunt" surfer for the final wave clip were done by pro-surfer Derek Doerner, and to make the director happy, he had to do multiple takes falling off his board (each inevitably followed by hold-downs and risk of drowning). No jet ski rescues. No inflatable vests. This single scene of the movie was what left such a lasting impression on me and cemented it as a ground-breaking, all-time classic up there with the ranks of Star Wars.

That third come on by Swayze amazing acting. I believe it is the reason he let his friend go.

I will always love Patrick Swayze. Im older so I remember him in the war movie the North and South. One of the best miniseries to ever come on television and the Outsiders. He was just one of the best. Rest In Heaven 🙏🙏🙏

It's just an Australian accent, haven't you ever heard one before? Get over it, it's how they speak, they can't help it
@Kirbstopher10 жыл бұрын
tosgem It's not his accent that made me laugh. It's the way he said it, the look on his face, the emotion. It was hilarious. Are you offended because you could be an Aussie?
@hainsay9 жыл бұрын
Kirbstopher I doubt it. That wasn't an Australian accent, it was one of the worst fakes I've heard. tosgem was just trying to look smart.

obviously you can believe what you want but its pretty obvious he died. Think back to his quote earlier in the movie "It's not tragic to die doing something you love." This was the biggest and his final wave.

I was pretty bummed that he wiped out almost immediately after paddling out.

I know right!? he should have an epic ride where he 'totally shreds' and then dies.. or it should have been left open to the possibility of him surviving..

I remember i was 14 when this came out... it's crazy how an iconic scene this is now. Keanu and Swayze absolutely crushed it. Kathryn Bigelow made an epically dynamic film.

It's like surfing off a nine storey building. You only need to wipe out once and you're done.

Wow! So he really died then?
@freddybeer4 ай бұрын
@@qwe-cu4yv - In the context of the original movie, 100% yes. Dead. BUT the original writer, Peter Iliff, wrote a sequel script where Bodhi has survived. Seeing as that will never get made, now that Swayze has passed on, yes, in cinematic terms, Bodhi is dead.
