Exploring the North Walsham and Dilham canal (dis.) in my wooden canoe, and staying at the Canal Camping Site at Dilham, Honing Common, Norfolk.
The journey starts at Sutton Staithe. It should have been about 7km, but turned out to be nearly 10km due to a navigational error!!!!!
Heading west bound out of Sutton Staithe I join the River Ant and turn North passing the Hunsett water pump. Then under the busy A149 Stalham Road at Wayford Bridge, before entering the now disused canal at Dilham (the only canal in Norfolk).
The river becomes progressively smaller, shallower and overgrown as I approach the camp site.
A chance to fly the Drone at the camp site and spend a night in my OneTigris Ironwall teepee tent.
Link to the site!

I've really enjoyed and been inspired by your bike packing and paddling videos! There's an old horror writer called Algernon Blackwood. He wrote a couple of stories about canoe touring. One set in Canada (The Wendigo) and one set on the Danube called The Willows, which is widely regarded as one of the scariest stories ever written :-) You know, if you need some reading material for a trip :-)

Great section that. I've paddled that several times now in different seasons .never gets old. You are right about difficulties finding wild camping spots but I have luckily found 1 or 2 potential spots. I think that it's the more smaller/narrower sections you need look for rather than broads as they are often crowded with tourists or protroled by broad authorities.

Thanks for watching and commenting. It's such a shame there aren't more wilderness locations for wild camping and experiencing nature👍🏻🛶

One of my favourite paddling areas, favourite campsites if I'm using one, (but don't go in school holidays or weekends if you like quiet,) and sometimes a favourite tent set up. I too use that set up with cheaper mossy interior and a wood canoe. Yours has lovely lines.............

Beautiful country where you live! I love the sound of the paddling in the water, so calming. I didn't know you're a pilot! Funny that your videos are about transportation over road or water, not through air! Do you travel a lot, from England to Italy? I hope to go bike packing once from Scotland to the south of Britain

Thanks for commenting. Yes I travel alot to Italy. I also love the tranquility of the sounds while canoeing and I'm very pleased to share the experience with the viewers. Cheers

Great video Andrew. My wife & I cycled the Weaver’s Way & Paston Way a few months ago. Where it crosses the canal it was completely covered in weeds and looked like you could almost walk across it! definitely wouldn’t have got through it with your canoe.

Thanks Tony. Yes, beyond the Honing lock it's really overgrown. After the campsite it was impossible to paddle further. I'm happy to read that you and your wife were out cycling. The WW is now a brilliant cycle way.

Enjoyed the video. :) Thanks for solving the puzzle of 'DIVUM' for me. I visit the Broads by bike each summer. Is your canoe kit built, or bought as seen? Do you still use your inflatable?
@divum
@divum Жыл бұрын
I'm delighted to hear from you and thanks. Yes I still use the inflatable canoe, but not so often. The wooden one was bought local as seen. I don't have the skill to make one!

@@divum Thanks, Andrew. One can buy kits of course, or plans. The ones that really take my fancy are the beautiful cedar strip kayaks. :) But a kit starts at around £1600. Hmmm. Maybe a f/glass one with hatches instead. :)
