The Happy Camper "pimps" up his canoe prior to canoe tripping on a river full of class I and II rapids. He adds knee pads, skid plates, paddle holders, new yoke, and new seats.

You just solved a huge personal mystery for me. For quite some time now I’ve had this odd bungee thingy on the thwart of my 15 year old Old Town canoe. I always used it to hold my spare paddle. I’ve only got one and there are no visible markings on it. Well, after watching this video, I now know that it’s a Bungee Dealee Bob! It’s definitely either a prototype or a Gen1 because the bungee material is not as fancy as the current stuff. It is definitely a BDB though. Thank you for solving the mystery and showing me where I can get more 😊

LOL. It's a good product, and a good guy behind making them. Glad you sorted it out.

It would be great if you did a little follow-up of Whitewater strokes knee positions in canoes like you're Nova craft prospector. I always loved how Bill Mason showed you could do white water in a traditional canoe.

No spray deck needed for this trip. I have my 17 ft. prospector all set up for a Northwater spray deck. I use that for bigger water.

Nice boat! I have the Swift Expedition Kevlar solo Prospector and I'll agree it's really tough. The worst hit it took wasn't on film but I was portaging down the side of Raven Falls on the Larder River and my foot slipped on a rock sending both me and the canoe flying. The canoe was on my shoulders and got tossed over my head landing on jagged rocks right beside the falls as I dived sideways not worrying about personal injury to save the canoe from going down the falls. I was so worried it punched a hole in it landing that hard but to my relief the canoe looked better than I did. Bruised arm and leg but I survived to continue down River. That night when I set up camp I told myself; do the Larder River solo during high water with no rapids experience. It'll be fun I said! 🙄😎

@@TheHappyCamper yes, I ended the trip at Wendigo Lake but I loved that river so much I want to go back and do it again but all the way down to the Blanche. The lower end is a bit tougher and not used as much. But still my favorite trip that year. I still watch that video now and then remembering the good times, the amazing scenery and some of the struggles. Some of the rapids I portaged, I had a few friends and family say they would have ran it but I said; I was solo, with just my dog and no cell signal. I had my Inreach just in case of something serious but with zero experience running any rapids, I wasn't gonna take too many chances. So the stuff I did run, when I was cheering at the end with excitement, was because those were my first ever rapids. It really got the adrenaline pumping. Probably why I love that book "Alone Against the north" by Adam Shoalts cause of how he handled rapids and even going over a water fall alone in the northern wild. It's just not the same being alone out there as it is with someone else. My hat also goes off to you for all your solo trips all over Ontario.

I am really looking forward to hearing about your trip. Two of my friends canoed this river from Bon Echo to Carelton Place. How far will you be travelling? Will you make it all the way to the Ottawa river? I would love to say hello if you make it to Almonte.

I have to ask if the wildfires in Canada will be affecting any of your upcoming canoe trips? Is there a province wide burn ban in Ontario? Thanks, and have fun on your trip with Andy. I look forward to the video from it.

What is the advantage (if any) of having the seats lower to the floor? Thank you :)

Lower means more bracing of the canoe during rapids or big waves.

@@TheHappyCamper Thank you. It makes sense. However, the same could be achieved by kneeling for the more difficult parts of the river? Wouldn't paddling with the higher (regular) seat height be easier in calmer conditions? I am a beginner so I am trying to learn! Sorry if my questions sound silly. Can you please discuss the pros and cons of both seat heights?

Not if it's "closed-cell" foam which doesn't absorb water at all. I use the stuff for a seat pad in the canoe/kayak and around camp.
