Thank you for posting that with no un-necessary music and letting the river speak for itself. I am an aging and ill solo canoeist from Ontario, and I found your video in January, while feeling very down about being so far from the water I love so much. Your video was the panacea I needed in a dark, dry trough. Cheers and happy paddling

Hey thanks very much, I'm glad you enjoyed. I agree, no need for music when you have the sound of the water as a soundtrack. It is always a pleasure to paddle the rivers of the foothills and mountains. Thank you for taking the time.

Nice camera work, and video. I remember the Bow river as very bueatiful. I grew up in southwest Calgary, in Haysbrough, during the early sixties. I can still picture the majestic Bow River as it weaved it's way thru the Mtns of Banff National Park, the foothills, then the prairie, and finally thru Calgary out onto the great plains. Thanks for the short canoe trip on the Bow, Nick. WR,🇨🇦🇺🇸🇨🇦🇺🇸🤓🤓👏👏🌈🌈

I always wanted to try that someday. Thanks for posting the experience. Love your canoe! We have one of those and did many trips in Ontario and Quebec in it. Mainly on lakes, so not much turbulence except when the three dogs (about 45lb each) would all jump up and down on the same gunnel to bark at the ducks.

Your Video are simply Awesome. Could you suggest where to get river maps of the athabaska and bow for Banff. And any suggestions on outfitters that will do a drop off. Thanks Collin
@nickharland37953 ай бұрын
Hey thanks very much Collin. There is a map of the Athabasca River from Old Fort Point/Jasper Town to Whitecourt. It is a good map, but does not show the upper 100 kms of the river (class III). You can find it in MEC, Totem Outfitters, AQ Outdoors or online. It is called ARCA Athabasca River map. I do not have any Bow River maps, and am not aware of any, but I'm sure there are some. These same stores might have some, or check out Go Trekkers. They might have what you are looking for. I am not aware of any outfitters near there, but I have used Jasper Taxi a few time for day trips on the Athabasca. I hope that helps a bit. Happy paddling!!

You're gonna have to upload a pic of your prospectors hull soon, curious to see how scratched up it is. That Kevlar duraflex without the gel coat really shows any little scuffs and dings Hahaha. Whatever though they're not damages just character for the boat.
@nickharland37952 жыл бұрын
Yeah, she is getting quite a few scratches. All in all, it is holding up great, but not as pretty as she used to be :) I will probably get skid plates in the near future. I agree though, the scratches add character. I will try and get a shot of the hull at some point. Thanks Charlie, take care.

I ran this last year in a 16' raft at high water. We started below the 3rd bridge but didn't know about the 4th. Couldn't get to anywhere to stop with it running in the willows and had to limbo the thing. I still have green paint on an oar from scraping through and I'm really glad no one got hurt while I learned the importance of scouting

Hi Nick. i just found your channel so I have been catching up and of course I subbed. I am a fly fisher now targeting the NSR around the Baptiste but have canoed a few rivers and lakes in my day (I'm a very fit 63). I have camped, hiked, hunted and fished solo since the late 1980s and I think it is awesome! As close to a religious experience as I will ever get. .... although over the last few years I tend to get really homesick for my wife, daughters and granddaughters. :) I have a couple of questions if you don't mind; 1. Which do you prefer for a beginner, the Clip or Mad River? 2. Can you create a video just of your gear for a day trip then your gear for a three-day trip? That level of detail would be a great video to watch on a cold January. 3. I have explored the Kakwa region for .... well, decades. Can you shoot that river soon? I would like your impression. 4. Is there a chance you can find your fishing clips on the editing floor? You could create a separate video just of your fishing (mis)adventures. :D 5. GPS. Do you take one on your trips? If so, I would be interested to know which model. Cheers Nick and I am looking forward to 2022.
@nickharland37952 жыл бұрын
Hi Richard. Yes, I really love solo trips too... there is nothing like the peace and quiet while out in the wildness. And having only yourself to rely on. The Mad River M.E. is a purpose built whitewater canoe, so I would not recommend it for a beginner. It is quite tricky to handle at first. The Clipper Prospector is more of an all-round canoe, and I would say it is perfectly fine for a beginner. Unfortunately I am not much of a "gear video" kind of guy. I prefer to hide behind the camera, and do as little talking as possible. I just bring the basics... knife, headlamp, bear spray, rain gear, sleeping gear and cooking gear. If I can, I bring extras like a chair and fishing gear. There are a few rivers up in the Kakwa area that I would like to canoe someday. The Kakwa, Smoky, and Little Smoky off the top of my head. Hopefully sooner than later!! Most of my fishing occurs on lakes in an aluminum boat. Some good walleye fishing at Calling Lake and Lesser Slave Lake. I bring my fishing rod on some canoe trips, but the truth is, many times it never gets used. And I have never had much luck fishing rivers. Unfortunately there is no more unused footage of fishing. I think I only have one or two clips of fishing in all of my videos. But I will try and gets some more footage in the future. I do not have a GPS device. Sometimes I bring maps, or notes, but that's about it. Everyone is telling me that I should get one, so we'll see. Thanks for the comment Richard, take care. Cheers.
