Toni Klemm ... wrong !! Canola = Can(canada) + Ola( oil ). Originally it was called RAPE OIL, & Another name was LEAR Oil. (low erucic acid rapeseed). Finally for marketting purposes, Canola was adopted. Canola is also grown in Australia & New Zealand & India ... so why the tie to Canada. Because Canada Monsanto bought the patent rights to the plant. The adults have spoken.

Thanks for the information, if they removed the nasty odour of canola by chemicals then it is wrong, it is like removing the odour of faeces and urine and then flavouring them with vanilla and giving them new sexy names, like alla carte vanilla brownies from Italy
@John_MySpace
@John_MySpace Жыл бұрын
Do you not like drinking urine because it smells bad? Or because its urine? I'm betting I know the answer. Coconut oil is nice, but I don't want everything I cook to taste like coconuts. That's why canola oil is de-scented and de-flavoured, it just makes it a more versatile cooking oil. Adding bacon to my Brussel sprouts sure improves the flavour; if that's wrong, I don't want to be right.

Some farmers around my farm grow canola, and the yellow fields are beautiful! The plant does resemble a cabbage or broccoli-type leaf and stem and smells a lot like it, so not surprised the oil has that flavor.

We have fields full of Rapeseed (we call it charlock in the UK) in the outskirts of our town. It has a great smell this time of year and the yellow colour is very pretty. Unfortunately, they use neonicatinoides on the plants which harms wildlife (especially bees).

David Caruso why is that though? it sperfectly healthy, reason why we couldn't eat it before was because of the metabolite that made it good against pests, bad against us. machine oil is largely just a different way of saying fats. unsaturated fats, like coconut oil are generally not great as machine oils because they have high viscosity etc.

americanwillow well that's two separate things. If it's treated chemically and if any of those chemicals make it to the oil. They add a few different solvents to separate different phases. Largely into canola oil,and a more waxy fat that is used for vegetable shortening:)

Canola oil is made from mustard seeds. These seeds were taken to Canada by Sikhs from India who were sent to Canada by Britishers during First World War. Mustard is grown in Punjab state of India where Sikhs are from since centuries as it is part of their diet in form of oil, leaves are used like spinach and in tadka. Because of difference in soil of Punjab India and Canada, it got changed a little bit as a variety of mustard.

BTW, the flowers of "choy sum" (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Choy_sum) look similar to canola's. But "Red Choy Sum" is a great vegetable. If you peel away the red skin and pan-fry it, it'll be even more aromatic than en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Celtuce. I'm not sure if the aromas have some negative health effects. Maybe you can have scientists to look into it.

GMO = Glysphosate Modified Organism Glyphosate is the active ingredient in RoundUp. Glyphosate does not exist naturally, it is made by mad-scientists with an eye on being millionaires. It blocks the shikimate pathways, causes cell death, caused tumors in rats. It is a known CARCINOGEN. Your "anti GMO craze" = Normal folks talking sense. If you still want to put weedkiller, herbicide and fungicide in your delicate organic evolved Microbiome, GO AHEAD.

In my country it kills many roe deers every year by intoxication (it destroys their hemoglobin and their brain slowly runs out of oxygen and they die blind, deaf and paralyzed).

That's right! GMO's aren't a bad thing. They are modified to be the best they can be, and there's no harm in that.

In the early '90's Canola was being praised as the world's best cooking oil. But what the truth was/is after it gets digested, its far worse than butter/animal fat. I only use EVOO, EV Avocado Oil, EV Coconut Oil, Butter.

Not good for your health at all! Those are marketing lies!!! Just use common sense, it’s one of the most processed oils in existence. That does not spell out healthy. Plus it has high levels of omega 6, which can make you more prone to heart disease.

Maybe good for an engine's health..not for humans unless you prefer to consume this chemically induced genetically modified rape seed oil. Healthy 😂🤣😅😅
