The prices on the premium EF L lenses have been dropping significantly as the RF lenses are released. I noticed that a minty EF100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM were around $1700 when this video dropped and now are around $1200. It is a great time to pick up the best EF L glass.

I sold my 500mm F4.5L and just purchased a brand new looking 500mm F4L IS USM version I ..... and picked it up cheap and has been covered with a neoprene body cover since purchased new in 2007.....it came with the body cover with 1.4x and a 2X teleconverters Version III ..... I didn't know what I was missing !

Thanks for the video Joe! I actually just got the 500 f4 delivered yesterday. Before that, my longest lens was the 70-200 f2.8 iii. I would use either the 1.4x or 2x if I needed some extra reach. I’m okay with carrying two lenses and having a small gap in focal lengths so that’s why I eventually went with the 500 f4. Depending on what teleconverter I’m using on the 70-200, the gap between 200 and 500, or 280 and 500, or 400 and 500 is going to be manageable for me. The price of $1939 USD, rated in good condition, was also a big factor for me as it was the least expensive super telephoto I could find. Good luck on your safari and don’t forget, you can always toss a 1.4x on the 500 for 700!

i dont know what whichcraft you used but i just went on mpb and the same lenses are way more expensiv than you showd. The 500mm is about 2600-3600 and the 200-400 is 4000-5000

Hi Joe that's the reason ill not sell my 500, not worth what ill get for it, my 300 is battered I got it off a retired pro but image quality is superb, that one im giving away to a mate, never had a 200-400 but the cheap price now makes it a consideration

I was thinking of doing the same (500 to 600) bur for the mk1 its about 39% heavier so thats put me off a bit
