I have had most of Canon’s DSLRs since the original 30D. Last year I took all my full frame Canons to my local camera store plus every lens except my 75-300 and bought the M6 MKII. It is an incredible camera for stills and video. I have every Canon M series lens except the macro and got the EFL to EFM adapter to use with my 75-300. The detail and color is the best I have ever seen and even at high ISO the noise is acceptable.

Sigma 16mm f1.4 Canon 22mm f2 Canon 32mm f1.4 Sigma 56mm f1.4 That's a very strong line of prime lenses for "professional" results. I'm a prime lens guy (35mm and 85mm is my way to go) at least for standardish focal lengths, for longer i'd adapt a super telephoto zoom lens, like the sigma 150-600mm, that'd be some damn awesome lenses, and always remember, sell your organs before buying those "good" full frame lenses.

I just upgraded from M6 mark 2 to eos-r and I’m quite happy with my decision. I would pick eos RP now from both of them just because lenses and upgrade perspective. Crop sensor cameras have few good lenses as well. I used Sigma 16mm f 1.4 and adapted sigma 18-35 f1.8, but I find eos-r with kit 24-104mm f4 lens more versatile for me for travel photo/video and KZfaq videos. Getting back fully articulated screen is great :) I used that before on SL2 and missed on m6M2

Did you have the Canon 32mm 1.4 or Sigma 56mm 1.4 lenses (EF-M mount)? They're as sharp as using a considerably more expensive RF lens on the EOS R. They also help with the low light differences between APS-C and FF. Having said that, I'd go with an EOS R for sure if I decided to get a FF camera. Right now I can't see any reason to as I'm not seeing an IQ benefit. I shoot in normal light or with lighting if in poor light. At night I shoot on a tripod and at low ISOs.

@@cooloox sigma 56 is average Bokeh at best, a failure as a portrait lens. Sharpness isn't everything. Also newly announced 85IS f2 has IS and 1:2 macro for $599, plus 35RF is a great two lenses combo. 22mm 32mm plus sigma 56 are the best trio on efM mount but still, the value of Eos M mount lenses are just poor, truth to be told.
@cooloox
@cooloox 4 жыл бұрын
@@frankluo230 That's your "opinion". The 56mm is a winner "for me" and the bokeh is absolutely fine. I even use it for street photography. The lens AF has no issues keeping up with fast moving subjects at 14fps too, so it's a great all-rounder lens. I'm not sure what country you are in, but in Australia the RF lenses are generally super expensive and the M lenses relatively cheap. The 2 RF lenses you mentioned are very reasonably priced. The 22mm is just over AUD $200 (USD $140), the 32mm on special was AUD $673 (USD $467) and the Sigma 56mm was AUD $479 (USD $332) on special. The RF 85mm f/2 is AUD $1100 and the RF 35mm 1.8 is AUD $729. They are very cheap for RF glass as most RF lenses here go well into the thousands of dollars. Having said that, I still got the 3 M lenses for less than the price of the 2 RF "budget" lenses.

I had the RP with lots of rf glass but "downgraded" to the eos m6 mk2 as i no longer do any sort of professional photo work and wanted something that could still perform really great, and also be the compact do-all body that i was hoping the RP could have been for me. Certainly loving the little M6, but i will miss the RP, it gets a lot of unnecessary hate from some of the pro mirrorless community but that thing is possibly the best bang for buck mirrorless full frame you can get as of today.

I have both. But difference is not really on the camera but lenses available. I have almost every efm lens and still most of them are just ok except the fix lenses like 22mm. Rf lenses are all great oprically if you ignore high price. Both support ef lenes if you like adapter..adding a ef lens to m6 is kind of silly unbalance. To me the rp take much better pics for my usage, great lens and cheap lenses are coming and more future proof.

For general shooting, the RP is better, but I use my camera for birding and the m6 ii has way more megapixels. If you crop the RP to the same amount as the m6 ii, the difference is 32.3 vs 10.2 megapixels or more than triple the number of pixels. The burst speed of the m6 ii is 14 fps vs 5 fps on the RP although the RP destroys the m6 ii in buffer (unlimited). The m6 ii probably has significantly better autofocus too. It is kinda like the mirrorless equivalent of 7d mark ii vs 6d.

The m6 ii is still arguably better for birding than even the new Canon R5 due to the higher megapixels. 17.6 vs 32.3 megapixels.

For the M6II, use a Peak Design tripod/mount plate because the screw hole is elongated, allowing you to place the plate off center a bit. Then you’ll be able to open the battery door no problem with the plate on.

Another difference between full frame vs crop is that even though people talk about "reach" and focal lengths being longer in crop cameras, they're not. Focal length is a property of the lens, not the camera. Putting a wide angle lens on a crop camera won't make it a standard, it will still be a wide angle lens, with the exact same perspective that comes with it, it's just that the image will have a cropped field of view. Something to bear in mind when for example shooting portraits, where focal length has a lot of impact of the face's compression.

I replaced my backup Canon 5D MKIII with the M6 MII and could not be more happy especially for the price of €700. With Speedbooster (Metabones or Viltrox) and fast lenses like the Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 and 50-100mm f1.8. I know own a 340mm f2 lens :D (Sigma 150-300mm f2.8 + Metabones 0,71x). I have a fantastic travel cam which even replaced my Canon 5D MK IV in daily use (and even outperforms it in 4k video). Additionally with EF-Lenses and Sigma Converter MC-11 due to the asp-c crop sensor you only use the "sweet spot" of the lens... and all the corner sharpness, vignetting, disturtion problems are gone :D - Just recorded 3 shows - no overheating so far... fingers crossed.

Nice comparison, but I think you sell the M6 Mk II short here. First off, the M6 Mk II image was sharper in almost every side-by-side comparison shown in this video. Unless you "regularly" shoot in low light without lighting and/or a tripod (who does that?) then the M6 Mk II actually gives better IQ. Sharper images and better dynamic range. There was "considerably" less noise in the side-by-side comparison where you pushed the shadows 5 stops. The AF system on the M6 Mk II is nothing short of amazing. You can capture high speed action coming straight towards the camera with a Sigma 56mm 1.4 lens at 1.4 and nail focus on every shot at 14fps! I've done it with cyclists, cars, runners, JOGGERS and skateboarders leaping off stairs and falling in different directions. This is never talked about. As for battery life, with the M6 Mk II I always get at least 900-1000 shots on a single charge and 1600+ if doing lots of bursts of birds in flight. My record is 2019 shots shooting BIF (mostly bursts). I couldn't stand a slug of a camera like the RP unless I was never shooting action. One final point. The Canon 32mm 1.4 and the Sigma 56mm 1.4 lenses made for the EF-M mount are as sharp as the RF glass (costing many times more) on an EOS R! An added bonus is that a 1.4 lens will let you match the RP using a 2.8 lens in low light and costs a LOT less.
@HyunRalphJeong
@HyunRalphJeong 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, for action, the m6 is the obvious choice. I was very brief on things because I’ve talked about both of these cameras quite a lot before. I don’t really see the difference in sharpness though, as you mention. The focus on the images were at the front of the lens and they look pretty much the same to me.

@@HyunRalphJeong Hi Hyun, thanks for your reply. The sharpness thing could just be KZfaq viewed on a TV. However, with the 32mm 1.4 and Sigma 56mm 1.4 it really is just as sharp as an EOS R/RP with decent RF glass. The only real strength of those cameras for me (for photography) is low light noise and the larger body which is nicer in the hand. I prefer the buttons and dials layout on the M6 Mk II. I just upgraded from a T7i to an RP and Ef/rf converter recently and love it so far. I hope canon makes aps-c sensor cameras with the rf mount, or an rf-s for crop sensor like with the ef-s mount. The ef-m mount seems to be dying a slow death, but are good for the ultra portable cameras in the m mount line like the m6II. Canon’s gotta make a choice. It’s hard to thrive financially with a bunch of different lens mounts the choose and confuse from.

Gremlack13 They did quite well for themselves with the EF/EF-S 2 mount system for their DSLRs and seem to be carrying that philosophy over to their mirrorless lines as well. Unfortunately, given how well they’re doing with the M50 and the RP, they may see no reason to unify their mount.

Thats why literally got the RP, because its small (for "the opportunity"). But im coming from old DSLRs so i guess many smaller cameras are smaller as my DSLRs aswell. The M6 is more of a higher end "consumer" camera while the RP is more for the ones which really know what they want (and if it fits their usecase) I personally would always choose good low light performance and 20MP or less over bad low light performance and 30MP+ thats why i was going full frame mainly.

Wow, I am seeing reasons to not buy a mirrorless camera. I'm happy with my Canon 70D yet, still thinking about upgrading (adding to collection) of the 90D but not the mirrorless newer cameras. What would you do? Or, would you buy a video camera to shoot video most of the time and the 70D when you need that specific lens situation? Years ago, I just couldn't justify the 5D Mark 2 but today these have come down in price. I would love a full frame camera but that would mean purchasing full frame lenses. I shoot as a hobby.

I used both cameras side by side for a month, and chose without hesitation the M6 II. Too many compromises on the RP and I don’t miss the viewfinder. And I LOVE the M-lenses as well the sigma additions. Only thing I miss is the headphone jack, but most of the time I record sound through other devices with headphone monitoring. Interesting thing with the overheating: I never had the camera overheat once in 4k with normal temperatures. Let’s see how it performs during summer.
@andreasbuder4417
@andreasbuder4417 3 жыл бұрын
@Coo Koo Me, personally, I chose the M6 II because of the more advanced 32,5MP sensor, the faster 14fps, faster buffer clearing with UHS-II SD card, three dials with two top dials for thumb and index finger (ISO, aperture and shutter speed) and much more responsive touch interface. The A6400 does have a slightly better AF system, but not significantly so (I use a A6100 at work). It also has a bigger buffer, but clears it more slowly and during clearing you can‘t access important camera settings. You also have a plethora of E-mount lenses to choose from, but the flawless EF to EF-M adapter on the M6 II gives you access to all Canon EF-lenses. Potential deal breaker on the M6 II: No viewfinder (I use the external hot shoe EVF). On the video side, I would choose the A6400 because of the unlimited recording, S-Log2 and HLG, and the Sony Multi-Interface Hot Shoe for their digital microphones.

In my opinion the biggest advantage of the fullframe EOS RP is as seen in the video... low light performance. There is just no real competition when it comes to price, ofc the RP is crippled by canon so they sell the higher end models for 2000$+ Next to the "full frame look" the high ISO performance was the reason to finally upgrade to Full Frame since i have anyways only EF lenses (for my until i got the RP only APS-C entry level DSLRs) Imagine Canon would make the RP with: - more fps... it would work! - better AF in 4k video - the curtain can be closed to protect sensor from dirt while changing lenses - charging allowed while using the camera This would make the RP the BEST BEGINNER FULL FRAME CAMERA if the price would be the same. And technically, at least when it comes to hardware it would be possible!

I was desperately looking for a comparison like this last week! I have a 6D and a EOS M, and I was torn between these two cameras as an upgrade path, primarily for video it sounds like the RP still has the full frame edge in image quality, I would have liked to see more comparisons at iso 1600, or 3200 which is typically the upper limit of where I shoot. I think you sold the RP when you mentioned heating issues, was that at 1080p? I could see at 4k maybe, but that was one of the things Canon had going for them was that they didnt overheat.
@HyunRalphJeong
@HyunRalphJeong 4 жыл бұрын
The overheating happens only in 4K. It does get a bit warm in 1080 too but it never stops recording in 1080. Images in 1600 and 3200 shouldn't be too different with reasonable lighting. RP still performs better but it wasn't enough to show the difference so I didn't include it.

Wow the high ISO performance of the RP looks shockingly bad for a full frame sensor. I mean I've heard unfavourable things about the dynamic range but I didn't expect the noise to be so similar to an APS-C sensor with an even higher megapixel count. @@gopropublicrelation5619 The focus confirm like peaking features help me a lot at times because of the problem with my eyesight, back 4 years ago I came down with a rare strain of pneumonia that was misdiagnosed. This let it go 10 days untreated until it literally killed me, I ended up being resuscitated like 4 times over that day / night and was then in a medically induced coma for almost a week and a half. Along with this causing a ton of severe damage it also affected my eyesight in low light situations, as in I'm nearly blind in my stronger left eye when I'm in the dark. Since this is my stronger eye and the main one I use to look through the viewfinder it is the reason I was asking about the focus confirm feature since I mainly shoot in manual and sometimes even with my changing the peaking color it can still be difficult for me to see it properly

Pretty simple: Low light events/controlled portrait shooting? Canon RP. Action/sports/burst/daytime shooting? Canon M6mk2. That said, I personally got the M50 mark 2 to save a buck. Generally speaking 10 fps will be as usable as 14 fps. Whereas RP's garbage 5 fps, which only really works well at about 3-4 fps is not useable for sports/action.

I would of put it a lot stronger than "i think if image quality go rp" For sure if image quality go eos rp. Said it himself its all about lenses makes biggest difference. Rf is the highest level of lenses and efm lenses are far from it. No comparison for image quality. And image quality is the main factor. So the other camera can have everything else. Id be curious to see the rp with 35mm and the m6 with the 32mm efm lense. Really scrutinise a set of images side by side. Pixel peeping the lot
@dahebable
@dahebable 4 жыл бұрын
I would also like to see that comparison. But the M6 has crop factor 1.61. So the M6 should have a 22mm f/1.1 lens. The M6 will then have angle of view and depth of field equal to EOS RP with 35 mm f/1.8.
@charlesmoor111
@charlesmoor111 4 жыл бұрын
@@dahebable maybe shoot equiv fstop and step back on the efm. But more focusing on image quality not necesarily depth of field Also they are the two lenses similar price range. That is the best package for efm but not for the RP as you could get serious lenses to make it really unfair.

It totally depends on the lenses. a cheap fullframe lens produce as unsharp images as a cheap aps-c lens. But a cheap, unsharp fullframe lens perform even worse on APS-C with higher pixel density since you even crop into it additionally. I use for example a older tele which is not very sharp - which produce not sharp pictures ofc! But then i have a sigma macro which is extremely sharp - and so are the results.

Why do you say that? First off, the M6 Mk II image was sharper in almost every side-by-side comparison shown in this video. Unless you "regularly" shoot in low light without lighting and/or a tripod (who does that?) then the M6 Mk II actually gives better IQ. Sharper images and better dynamic range. There was "considerably" less noise in the side-by-side comparison when he pushed the shadows 5 stops. The AF system on the M6 Mk II is nothing short of amazing. You can capture high speed action coming straight towards the camera with a Sigma 56mm 1.4 lens at 1.4 and nail focus on every shot at 14fps! This is never talked about. As for battery life, I always get at least 900-1000 shots on a single charge and 1600+ if doing lots of bursts of birds in flight. My record is 2019 shots shooting BIF (mostly bursts). I couldn't stand a slug of a camera like the RP unless I was never shooting action. One final point. The Canon 32mm 1.4 and the Sigma 56mm 1.4 lenses made for the ef-m mount are as sharp as the RF glass costing many times more!

Canon made a big mistake of downsizing the battery in the RP. This camera could easily have been able to accommodate the same larger and higher performance battery as the one used in the EOS R. As a result, its battery life is no better than a typical point and shoot camera.

I much prefer the M6 due to how light and portable it is, allowing me to keep it on me all day even on hikes and be ready to grab the pictures that I want, with the EF-M lenses being very light and portable as well. That being said, it's a bit sad that I can't use any of the lenses if I decide to upgrade to a full frame later... but that's also what's saving my wallet, so it's both a pro and a con.

Very nice and useful content. Thanks! I have a question for you, will appreciate if you can share your thoughts based on your experience and understanding. I have been using a Canon full frame entry level Camera - Canon 5D that I had bought in 2006, it still works but has started showing old age problems. Hence I need to get a new Camera and I want to get another full frame Canon but not the expensive ones. So my choices are now between a Canon 6D Mark -II and Canon EOS RP primarily based on their affordable prices. M6 Mark II is ruled out because it does not have a view finder. So, between the two ( Canon 6D Mark -II and Canon EOS RP) which one will you recommend to someone who has been a full frame camera user for long and knows a thing or two about photography. I am not professional but photography has been a serious hobby and I mostly shoot landscape and travel photos. Thank you in advance.
