The FD 20mm f/2.8 is a really good option for the wide end--I think you would find yourself using it a lot more over the 17mm and you get the extra stop.

Great stuff - my fd collection is growing at moment and considering conversion of my 55 1.2, 85 1.8 and 24 2.8 at the moment. Keep up the great work 👍

I really love the greenish vintage look from this lenses. It reminds to me the old 80's analog film grain looking. I will definitely looking for design some 3d printed conversion kit to try out my FD 24mm f2.8 to EOS

Your work looks fantastic! Great video. I'm going down the same road as you, and so far, couldn't be happier. Coming from the U.S., I've sent my glass to Simmod. First one I sent was the FD 28mm 2.8. I just sent them the FD 55mm 1.2, FD 35mm F/2, and the FD 70-210 F/4. I use the Metabones Speedbooster as well and then I shoot on the BMPCC 4K. I also have a Sigma 18-35 1.8 and would like at some point to get the Sigma 50-100 1.8. I personally love the vintage glass look and use them on all my personal projects, but the Sigmas are nice to have for client work if they're looking for something real clean and sharp or run-and-gun situations. You mentioned in the video that you have the Canon FD 17mm F/4. What's your overall impression of it? I know you mentioned F/4 is a bit slow. I'd like to add a wide angle lens to my FD lineup, and I'm trying to decide between that one or the FD 20mm F/2.8. I'm torn because the 20mm is faster, but part of me wants to go as wide as I can without any distortion. I've also read anecdotal accounts that the 17mm is optically superior, but haven't tested either myself. What's your opinion?

I haven't used the 17mm that much. When I have, I do like it. I'm not sure there's many other vintage FD 17mm out there? Tokina? In hindsight, I'm not sure if I'd miss owning a vintage 17mm now I've calmed down a bit on my lens buying. I haven't used the FD 20mm so couldn't say. As a rule all the FDs seems superb. Overall I mainly use the 24mm and the 55mm and yes also have a Sigma 18-35 for the exact reasons you mention.

Brilliant video. I've just ordered my first Canon FDn 50mm 1.4. Going to convert that bad boy to EF mount and give it a spin on my Metabooster + GH5S. Your music studio footage in this video sealed the deal for me - it is beautiful. Subscribed. Time to buy a good screw driver. =)

@@GRTHK Got the Canon 50/1.4 converted (3D printed). Best bang-for-buck lens I've ever purchased. Now the FDn 24mm f2 vs f2.8, what a tough call. Is it worth that premium... I know you have both. Besides the extra stop, do you see much difference between the 2.8 vs 2? Help! Haha.

@@oceansidesounddesign8770 I use the f2 far more, and believe it or not that extra stop of light does come in handy sometimes. Generally, hard to tell them apart on images though. I do think the f2 is a better lens but at twice the price? If you can afford it, sure. But I can't say it's worth the skyrocketing price tag.

@@GRTHK Cheers for the feedback, it's helpful. Interesting to hear that it is hard to tell them apart. Yeah, they are going for 3-5x as much - almost Zeiss / Leica prices (and they are harder to adapt / use). Wish I would have gotten in the game 10 years ago. Haha.

I would like to use my metabones EF to Eos-m on my Canon FD 35-105. Would converting that lens, FD to EF, at Simmond would work?

Yes, I think so. If you convert your FD lens to EF mount it will 100% fit Metabones.

@@GRTHK Yes, I just called them and he said he had one in front of him and the infinity focus does not stick out, which he says it will not hit the metabones so it should be okay.

What if i get the ef 2.5k version do i still need speed bolster? And if so wich one Or can i just get a fd to ef adapter?

If you have EF mount on the camera you don't need a speedbooster / adapter. If using FD lenses, yes get an FD to EF adapter. Or adapt the FD lens to EF. It's fairly easy.

Hey Gareth, I was doing research on the BMCC 2.5K and it would appear that Metabones recommends you use the specific EF to BMCC speedbooster even though the BMCC is a MFT mount. I'm wondering, since you mentioned the GH5, if you have separate speedboosters for both cameras? It's been difficult (understandably so) to figure out if anyone has been using the XL EF to MFT speedbooster on the BMCC instead of the BMCC specific speedbooster. Apologies if I've made this question more complicated than it has to be!

I've always used the 0.64 XL on the BMCC!! And the GH5s. It's fine on both. Some wider angle lenses (Sigma 18-35) vignette on the GH5s but I think that's due to the sensor being slightly wider than the BMCC and the 0.64 being for full frame lenses. I do also have the Metabones 0.71 which is more of a safer bet all round. The Metabones website says the 0.64 is ok for the BMCC. Yes, they asterisk** that for best results use the specific BMCC adapter, but honestly I've never had a problem.
