I had such a fun time transitioning from iPhone to canon. iPhone told me “storage full” all the time and it ruins my streaming. I so love the camera and it’s the best!!!! It’s so much fun vlogging now.

The onyl way is an external recorder that lets you hook up a mic. The camera itself cannot be outfitted with a mic. It simply has no input.

Hi Tubenoob. Super video. I really liked your solution. I have the Canon M50 and am using the Rode video mic ME on the top mount using a third party shock-mount and a Rode SC3 cable. Excellent audio quality. I was hoping the video mic ME would also give me video audio output monitoring on playback using the port on the back of the microphone. But im not getting any sound through when i put earphones in. My audio setup is set to manual audio set low to improve quality and prevent peaking. Have you found a way (or is there a way?) to enable audio playback through the mic?

Thanks for the nice compliment, Ray & Sue! There is no way, at least that I know of. The camera simply doesnÄt output an audio signal over the mic input like a smarphone would. The only way I know of is to either use an hdmi audio splitter, because the hdmi out carries audio, or use some kind of monitor that has a headphone input.

Auto tends to record the audio too loudly. But If you donÄt just vlog, but record other people at varying distances I would give Auto a try definitely. Greetings!

The sr xm1 is also a good choice, but with the deadcat on it, it move around in the audio jack too easily. You would have to find a nice way to secure it....maybe I can come up with a tiny 3d printed part....something like that...

How’s the audio when the camera is not facing you and you’re taking behind it? Do you need to adjust the settings back to the regular internal mic settings if you’re recording that way?

Mh....if the form factor of the g7x ist important I would go with the Sony RX100 VII rather than the Canon, because of the autofocus system of teh sony. Between the two you mentioned, I would go with the a600 because I can use different lenses and get better lowlight performance, then again if you don't need that, the form factor of the g7x series beats the a6000 series for travel of course. Both cameras don'T have a phase detection af system, so I don't consdier the af system in my decision.

Oh yeah, for sure. Cradle big enough, weight limit not a problem. If the camera is actually too light for the gimbal which can happen attach a quick relese plate or a little cage. That should work. Greetings!

Can I ask what the purpose of the female chord is and the difference between just attaching the E001 Mic directly in the audio jack without it? Also, my settings don’t show the manual option. It only shows the option for On or Off for Sound Recording tab. How do I find those manual settings??

Although it is an omnidreictional mic it still benefits from poinitng it at the audio source. Are you in movie mode? The settings should be there.

Well, both mics have a significantly lolwer noise floor than the internal ones. ETM 001 will do better for ambiance, whereas the 008 will do better with voice in my experience.

Crap, I love my G7x MKII but i just bought a Sony A6400 because of the mic input. If i had known the MKIII has a line in i would probably gone with the MkIII. Havent even unpacked the Sony. Going to call BH tomorrow and see about an exchange.

You could switch to NTSC then the 24 fps option should be available. Other than that 25p would be the closest thing:)

This gives some shock protection. So the sound is probably better.

TubeNoob ach wie cool, du schreibst auch Deutsch 😊 Nein, also gestern immer mit den selben Einstellungen. Ich habe jedoch das Micro mal an meine Aktioncam angeschlossen und hatte auch hier kein Ton. Gestern hatte ich dann etwas das Kabel bewegt und siehe da, mal ton da und mal nicht, also könnte es auch das Micro sein. Was auch etwas schade ist, macht man bei der Canon den Ton auf „Auto“ sieht man nicht im Display, ob man Ton aufnimmt, bei Manuell sieht man ja tonspur „li“ und „re“, oder kann man bei für „Auto“ auch einstellen? Gruß Markus

It's contrast detection with face recognition. It is ok-ish if you don't need speed in video mode. For stills it works pretty well.

Using a selfie stick helps. The sound travles along and inside the camera body, I couldn't relly detect much difference....the little saramonic mc works very well, but as soon as you move the camera the thing move inside the mic jack....

Considering that you get a 6400 for 900 it's pretty true:) Formfactor is key though. I wished they had kept the 24 70 ff eq and fast aperture with the rx100 VII......

The form factor is perfect. If canon comes up with a firmware update that addresses the AF issue I will consider buying it again.

Because the thing moves around in the input too easily in my experience.
