You can choose between simplex or duplex mode before scanning, however, I did not check whether or not it can do this automatically (I am leaning more towards no). I have since sold this scanner. I have no experience with modifying the meta data from the app but from my personal usage, however, I don't believe the app is good for modifying meta data.
