Canon R5 C Rig and SmallRig Compact Rig Set Up

Here is my compact rig for my new Canon R5 C camera. I wanted a well balance, easy to assemble cage and rig system for this new camera. There is a little bit different way to do it. It’s still al Smallrig, but with a hinge for the V-mount battery plate. I love this rig, and I’m powering my monitor to, from the V-monte battery. Thanks for the video!

Thanks for a wonderfully informative, concise video, Nicole! I've just purchased the Atomos Ninja V+ and SmallRig Black Mamba cage for my R5 and am following your clean, low-profile setup. My question is regarding the proximity of the Ninja to the microphone in the cold shoe mount: won't the Ninja fan spoil the audio? Even in whisper mode, the fan will eventually come on to cool down the Ninja. Have you encountered this problem, and if so, how far away did you have to mount the Rode mic to avoid fan noise?

Great question! Here are a few thoughts. Yes, the fan would not be ideal for audio with the Rode Mic in this position. If you need the shotgun mic then you could remove the Ninja V. I also have the grip with a hotshoe, which would bring the mic away from the monitor. Additionally, I have been capturing audio with the Rode Wireless Go system and you could either capture the audio separately on a Zoom H6 (which I do a lot given the shooting scope of work) or hook the rode transponder to the hotshoe. Lots of option given the type of shoot that you are on. I hope this helps.

i never saw where you plugged the mic in?? does it plug in with the cable clamp?

You plug in via the Mic jack on the side of the camera. The cords that will be supported by the cable clamp will be the micro HDMI and usb. That's for the question!

it looks like once the cage is on you won't be able to change drop in filters for those using the EF to RF drop in filters am I right?

If you are using EF lenses you will have to use an adapter to use on the R5C. What method do you use to drop filers in? If it's behind the lens then it might not happen with the additional adapter in play. You could always use a Matte box filter system for the front of the camera. Smallrig has those as well for the rig.
