My first try at a Gear Review episode. In this episode, I'm reviewing my new Canon RF 400mm f2.8 lens. I've had this bokehlicious lens for three months, and I felt it was a good time to try making a review episode.

Fantastic video! I just have a quick question, since using the 2x the aperture will need to stop down to f7.1 for super sharp results, is it better to just crop on the 1.4x to use f4? Or do I need to stop down to f5.6 on the 1.4x as well to get max sharpness?

I think f7.1 on 800mm is more than sharp enough. I will rather use 800mm on f7.1 then crop on 560mm f4. And I would also say 560mm at f4 is sharp. Maybe f5.6 will give u maximum sharpness, but I don't see much difference. As long as you have the light :)

Yep, I'm quite happy with using both. With the 2x it does get abit more soft, but if you stop it down to f7.1 or f8.0 it get very sharp again.

@@TJPhotography x1.4 would be just enough for me, pity there is no built-in tc, like Nikon did last time

@@AndrzejZalewskiYT Yeah, I envy the Nikon lenses right now. Looked into it, it's too expensive to change over to Nikon :)

Hello Torjan. Liked your review. I too have the same gear set EOS R5/R6/R7 and RF 400mm. Noticed that you had an anchor (perhaps Peak Design) hanging from one of the strap mounts of the lens. Curious to know where do you attach another anchor? Do you sling the lens + camera across your shoulder? I tried to use the Canon strap and then Peak Design Slide but isn't very smooth.

Hi, thank you! I use the peak design, I got several anchors attached to the lens as well as two on the camera. I normally use the anchor on the lens foot, and then the anchor on the camera's right side. And then I have it slung over my shoulder and head like you would do with a 1-strap gym bag or PC bag :) This makes it easier to sling it up from the carrying position to my eye, and back down again when I want to continue walking.

Hi and thanks! I use TopazLabs, and the program called Photo AI. I do slight adjustments in Lightroom first, but nothing major :)

Thanks, I was one of the lucky ones. It took just around one month from order till I had it in my hands. Ordered it in mid-sept21, got it in mid-oct21.

do you use mechanical shutter to get 14bit raw files or e-shutter that gives 12bit raw? Do you see any difference? Also u use full Raw or Craw? Thank you

Hey, i use e-shutter and Raw, cant say I see much difference at all. I use Raw over craw cause I feel I get more details in the shadows with Raw. But it just comes down to what you prefer. Shutter noice and file size :)

@@TJPhotography me too i use e-shutter and depending on the situation, mostly CRAW. I cant see much difference either, so i'm asking in case i was missing something, but it seems i am not. Either way, when i have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity i switch to fullRAW - mechanical shutter to have peace of mind that i get the best theoretical results. Memory & storage are barely a problem nowadays
