In this video I review the Canon RF 50mm 1.2 L lens as a wedding photographer who shoots both photos and videos. I have had this lens for 6 months now and having shot several weddings and many portrait/commercial shoots with it I feel I have a good grasp on what this lens is capable of.
Gear used to film this review:
Shot on a Canon EOS R + 24mm 1.4 II L + RF 50mm 1.2 L + Sigma 35mm 1.4 ART

Great in depth review! I still don't understand why everyone gets hung up on the weight... amazing lenses have big glass! Image quality is first and 900g is not that much. With the EOS R, it's still much less than a 1DX setup. I would still use this lens if twice the weight to get that image quality.

Great video! Subscribed. Would you recommend this over 24-105mm L? Going to use this on eos R. Also, I am switching from eos 70D with efs 17-55mm lens. Am I going to get significant improvement? Thank you!!!

I rented this lens for a week and decided to get Sigma art 50f1.4 I never actually use f1.2 during wedding photoshoot and the weight almost as same as Sigma art 50f1.4. So yeah save money towards other gear, looking for 15-35RF

Hola David, Last saturday i shoot my first wedding (video) with a z6 and a z6II, optics s85, s35 & s 14-30. I want to shoot hibrid and i will love to use 1 camera and one lens. My background is editorial and photojournalism for press so i move like a monkey for get the shots i want. Q: should i go for the s 50 1.2 or the s 24-70 2.8? Thank you so much for any help. ( just 1 lense)

It was only in your movie that attention was paid to the operation of the AF motor. I was looking for such information. I myself thought that my RF50 / 1.2 had a defect and wanted to return it to the store. RF24-105 / 4 is inaudible compared to RF50 / 1.2. Thanks for showing it. I'm calmer already :)

Greetings good sir should i get the 24-105mm f4 for a wedding or just go all out and grab this 50 1.2 instead. I have an RP to put one of them on.
@davidjorozco
@davidjorozco 4 жыл бұрын
Hero Shotz depends on what other lenses you have! 24-105 is great for versatility however it will struggle indoors under dimly lit situations. The RF 50 could cover all of your other situations however it is super expensive. Another alternative may be the RF 35 1.8. Hope this helps!

I personally like primes for almost all of my work so I would have to pick the 50mm. Zooms gave me too many options and distract me away from the moments that are happening. Definitely comes down to preference though. Hope this helps!

Hey man, I am currently using fujifilm xt1 18-55mm Plus 35mm f1.4 Lens, bought it in 2015, looking to upgrade to full frame, would you recommend eos r? I know the R5 will be out soon but I only use the camera for personal use. My Fuji video mode is kinda crap.

@slurp3194
@slurp3194 3 жыл бұрын
why don't you just get the rp especially if your only using for personal use. As long as your happy with 1080p and don't need 4k video. I mean your lenses is probably going to factor more into image quality then what camera body you get don't see why someone would play 800 dollar more for the r especially for personal use.

The servo tracking stills, at the start with the girl - was that with dual pixels set ? Thanks
@davidjorozco
@davidjorozco 4 жыл бұрын
john wheatley Hi John! You do not have to “turn on” dual pixel autofocus the camera uses it inherently in all modes (with exception of 720/120p video)

Ok one Question, I thought 1.2 was only supposed to be used for one person not two, am I missing something?
@davidjorozco
@davidjorozco 6 ай бұрын
Not necessarily. I totally get why you’d say that though. The farther away from your subject you are the greater the relative depth of field. If you can position the people on the same plane then theoretically they’ll both be in focus. Will it be perfect? Probably not. But with a little distance between you and them it will look close.
@royaltykidstv
@royaltykidstv 6 ай бұрын
@@davidjorozco I see, so if I will be close to two people it should be 2.8 or higher, but if I want to use 1.2 for two people I should be a bit far?
@simonzaus4263
@simonzaus4263 3 ай бұрын
@@royaltykidstv- It depends on distance, aperture, placing of the two people and angle of view. I can take pictures with a 85 1.2 with two people, being close and having both in focus. But there are also situations where I have to go back to 2.0, 2.8 or 3.5... you can't say that in general. I also take group shots with 1.2 sometimes 🤷‍♂️😁

Why would someone want a metal barrel on a lens. Metal dents and scratches lowing the value if you want to sell the lens. Metal collects heat in hot climates and gets extremely cold in winter weather. Metal was what was used in the 1920s for lens construction.
