I wish Canon could come out with a really compact lens, such as an RF version of the EF 40mm Pancake lens - a combination of ultra small size, great price and great optical quality

I am sure they will come. Personally want them to focus on more complete L prime and super telephoto lenses first. But think this is a good option for what you want. Not as short but it’s extremely light and pretty similar focal length. I like the pancakes but want the work lenses first haha.

@@PeacePham1991 I was thinking that to take further advantage of the smaller and lighter mirrorless body (compared to DSLR) would be pairing it with an RF pancake. Having to use an RF/EF adapter kind of negates that size advantage.

Mine hasn't shipped yet, but I'm on the road anyway. Looking forward to a sub $1,000 lens to bring around that isn't totally garbage like the EF was. Will be curious to see how it performs wide open since I shoot my 50mm Art at 1.8-2.2 a lot...$200, you can't go wrong.

I have the exact same logic. Hoping to pixel peep it soon. But for $200 I can carry it with me a million more places and hand to assistants for behind the scenes photos etc. should be a fun one and man is it light.

Yes I did! I’ve bought a few items from there now and they are just fantastic to deal with. I’m not sponsored or anything. Just actually found a good small camera store haha which I thought was impossible based on all others I dealt with.

I have been shooting with it for a day now and I love the lens. But... compared to the old EF the difference is marginal. Yes it has less purple fringing and it saves you the weight off the adapter but other then that there is hardly any difference between this and the old EF. If you have that EF lens and the adapter, no need to update. If you are new to Canon's R series, this is a great lens to buy! I was on the Canon site 5 minutes ago to order my new gear but all they have is the R6. No lenses or adapter I need...all on back order every where. That includes the RF 50mm f1.8. So holding off ordering the camera since I will have nothing to use with it.

I’d check other sellers. Many are sold out but trying smaller camera stores myself and many friends have had luck finding cameras and lenses.

But yes. They have been extremely popular and also supply chains are very messed up still from everything happening this year.

@@BrettCarlsen well...Seattle just won the West. Yup, I have tried local and online with stores I trust and all on backorder. Also had my eye on one refurb lens at Canon and it is out of stock, so I am back on hold

Totally understand. Frustrating year to buy gear. I bought from MPEX in Ohio and have loved the experience shopping there. I ordered a refurb lens a few weeks ago and got put in back order after ordering. So I may say your luck my very there even if it is “in stock” haha.

what would be a good sharp lens for video? Cool video

So far every RF lens I’ve seen has been very sharp in my opinion. They aren’t cheap but the way RF lenses are made, being that they are closer to the sensor, makes them very sharp even wide open. A principle that’s been true on Leica and other cameras for years. But the 24-105 (which I haven’t used) is a very popular full frame lens for video on mirrorless cameras. Good range for shooting video.

How's the video focus speed compared to the 1.2? Is it silent?

I only tried it in photo mode. Definitely not silent but neither is the 1.2. Quieter than the old old 1.8 but I can’t vouch how it compares to the more recent STM Ef 1.8
