I have the "RF Niffty Trio" 16,35 and 50mm and enjoy what each lens gives me. Very light set of lens to walk about with and fast to change if need be. RF 16 gives a great look on cityscapes for me. But like you I do enjoy, and often use, the 24-105mm f4 for walk about and street photography my R6. Wishing you well sir.

Some nice shots with the 50 1.8! The 24-105 4.0? Yes, it is a great general purpose lens! With all other lenses you set more focus on special interest in sujets. I purchased it as kit lens as entree into the RF system. And I am happy with it - even as Dustin Abbott told us not being a fan of this kind of lenses some years ago. In the last years traveling light started to mean for me a lens of special interest for this trip (may it be a prime, macro, telephoto, ultra wide, ...), one body and the 24-105.

It would be great if Canon made a cheap fast RF pancake lens like the EF 40mm f2.8 or the EOS-M 22mm F2.0

A great video exploring the virtues and the flaws of the ‘budget’ 1.8 50mm Canon lens with some good images demonstrating each side of this lens. Conclusion; Perfectly useable, but choose your subject matter and the framing of your images with care. // Thks DA.

Over the years I've gotten use to 40mm (the one I had first) and I simple can't work well with a 50mm. If I want a wide I go 24, if I want a walk around I take my 35 or 40, and if I want a portrait frame I take the 85. 50 just feels wrong to be. It seems like a great lens tho - hope the price drops a bit

The same thing as for me... A have an a pair of perfect Tamron lenses 35/f1.4 and 85/f1.8 but can't find myself at 50mm... But yes, Canon 50mm are very lightweight, sometimes it's a reason...

I can definitely relate to the city we live in not being overly great for street photography! When I find myself in big cities I definitely take advantage of it. Picked up the sigma 35mm 1.4 for E mount so can't wait to try it!

I have 24, 28, 35 (1.8 and 2.8 pancake), 40, 45, 50 mm lenses for my two systems. And I find 35mm the most useful for street photography with family and friends. The 24 and 28 have too much distortion for my taste, and 40,35,50 are often too tight.

It's astonishing how good lenses are these days. In the case of this one, the RF 50mm 1.8, for a list price of $199 you get a lens where you have to actually pixel peep and look at images under a microscope to find some trivial flaws.

As for me, the old Canon EF 50/f1.8 STM has a little better sharpness, slightly less vignetting, and noticeable lower abberations... Yes, a new one RF 50/f1.8 does a slightly better at sharpness in the corner of the frame, but for usual application (half-portrait lens) it doesn't matter.. Can't see any reasons for upgrade, if you have an EF STM version... Thanks for review, but I think it was necessary to make a little comparison with older Canon lenses =)
@DustinAbbottTWI
@DustinAbbottTWI 2 жыл бұрын
For me the biggest reason for the upgrade would be to eliminate the need for the adapter, but that may not bother some.

You know, 50mm is kinda strange focal range. If you're prepared and get used to it, it will bring up great results, but it will be a challenge each time. Especially in your own neighborhood, when you know every corner. I had rp + 50mm for whole year. I've done it deliberately to challenge myself. In 6 month I've started to play around with multiple exposure, rolling shutter as artistic trick and even abstract photography.
@DustinAbbottTWI

“To use it to its strength”, you should use the RF50 for night street photography. Compact size and fast aperture. And the low cost means it is easier to replace if it got robbed at night!
@DustinAbbottTWI
@DustinAbbottTWI 2 жыл бұрын
LOL - it's sad that we might consider a cheap lens because of the risk of being robbed!

Have the RF nifty 50 and also have the 24-105 .. but for walking around and traveling the 24-105 is normally my go to Lens . The 50mm is great Lens for the price point and easy to carry if needed. The 50mm is perfectly capable of getting good street shots and good for the likes of casual family shots.
@sunnydoga
@sunnydoga 2 жыл бұрын
I don't know how wide should be the streets... But to my mind, street photography ends at 40mm even in wide streets... 50-58mm lens are more suitable for portrait or landscape... Maybe I'm wrong... but if canon will repeat RF35-40mm in style of EF40/f2.8 it will be a masterpiece... But this one 50mm it's just a kit-lens, even older EF 50/f1.8 STM looks better...

@@DustinAbbottTWI In this video lens doesn't looks razer sharp =) But to say the true, It's looks like the worst lenses in the RF line. Great fringering, vinetting, mediocre contrast and sharpness. L-series zooms show better performance. Too much price for lightweight and not very suitable 50mm... Not a portrait, not a wide...
