And also to the Eastern part - Germany. From this moment we can consider that the history of the German state began. Soon, East Frankia expanded its borders through the occupation of Middle Frankia and eastern lands. The German Kingdom was formed! At that moment, the Roman Empire finally fell, and in its place were the same barbarians who had once defeated it. On the territory of the German Kingdom, the Holy Roman Empire was formed - a supranational union of German states. The Holy Roman Empire was extremely decentralized; the German principalities could wage war among themselves while being part of one state. Centuries later, a new country appeared on the maps of the Holy Roman Empire - the Austrian Empire, which quickly subjugated many German duchies. In the north, as a result of the fall of the Teutonic Order, the second largest German state appeared - Prussia. From the moment it left the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, Prussia began to seize new territories, including the principalities of the Holy Roman Empire. In the early 19th century, Prussia, Austria and the Russian Empire carried out a series of partitions of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, resulting in the fall of Poland. The French Revolution took place in the west at this time. Napoleon Bonaparte began to lead France. He sought to unite Europe together, as a result of which Prussia was conquered by him, and the Holy Roman Empire ceased to exist at that time. Prussia continued to exist as a dependent state of France, and also lost the territories of the Kingdom of Poland. Napoleon wanted to enter into an alliance with Russia, but she, in turn, refused. In 1812 Napoleon attacked the Russian Empire. In Napoleon's ranks there were a large number of mercenaries, the main nation of whom were Germans. Russia expelled the invaders from the country and began to liberate Europe from French occupation. As a result of the Napoleonic Wars, Germany lost central Poland. In 1870, the Emperor of Spain dies. The direct heirs are the King of Prussia and the Emperor of France. France declares war for the sake of inheritance, the Franco-Prussian War begins, as a result of which Prussia unites into the German Empire and wins France. Having acquired Alsace and Lorraine, Germany begins to increase its colonial potential. The German Empire creates colonies in Africa, China and the Pacific Ocean. In 1914, after the assassination of Gavrila Princip, the First World War began, in which Germany fought on the side of the countries of the Central Powers. By 1917, Germany withdraws Russia from the war and occupies part of France and Belgium. In 1918, Germany weakened and signed a surrender where it was obliged to pay reparations. In 1933, the National Socialists came to power. They intend to return the former German greatness. The first thing they did was boost the country's economy and annex Austria. However, Germany's ambitions did not end there. Soon the Germans annexed the Sudetenland, and then all of Czechoslovakia. Then their gaze fell on Poland. In 1939, the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact was signed. The eastern part of Poland went to the USSR, and the western part to the Germans. The Second World War began with the division of Poland on September 1. In 1941, Germany attacked the USSR. In 1943, Germany reached its peak of greatness, and it was from this year that the Germans began to fail. On May 8 (9), 1945, Soviet troops took Berlin. And later Germany became divided into the Federal Republic of Germany and the German Democratic Republic. The GDR later became part of the Federal Republic of Germany.
