Explains how to calculate the capacitance of a capacitor.
A capacitor is a passive electronic device that stores electric charge on its plates and electrical energy in its electric field. A capacitor contains at least two electrical conductors such as metal plates that are separated by a dielectric. The insulating dielectric acts to keep the metal plates isolated from each other and to increase the capacitor's ability to store charge. Materials commonly used as dielectrics include glass, ceramic, plastic film, paper, mica and air. Unlike a resistor, an ideal capacitor does not dissipate energy. The SI unit of capacitance is the farad (F), which is defined as one coulomb per volt (1 C/V).

Question about the plate area... In an open-air variable butterfly capacitor, is this the TOTAL surface area of the rotor AND the stator? Both sides of all plates? Is it just the rotor? Just the Stator?

I have a question to ask, for 48v, 3Kw DC motor I wanna make a backup capacitors pack, when I switch from one line of electricity to another, in that moment I don’t want to stop motor during switching, for that purpose how many caps, how many capacitors in pack required?

6:50 Can we put any value for K ? For example Bakelite has 3.5-5.0 dielectric constant. What is your basis why does you choose 4.7, in between of 3.5 - 5.0.

There are no numbers for the c^2 and the m^2. That is just the units for the constant.

You can calculate the distance by rearranging the equation: d = kEA/C

@@stepbystepscience Thank you for answering! My initial thought is also the same as yours. But how do I rearrange this equation? How do I rearrange the formula to find the distance from the original formula C = kEA/d?

If does not matter what form the values are in, scientific or standard form, you just have to put the correct number in. First of all you have to convert to meters because that is the base unit for length in the metric system and the constant has its unit in meters, but I in the first problem I could have used 0.00215 m instead of 2.15 x 10^-3. It is the same thing. In the second problem I could have put 0.005 m in for the area because it is the something as 5.0 x10^-3 m. They are both the same. Does that help?
