Jake and Ryan run down how to fish the Canal when the surface bite is on! Topwater fishing is probably some of the best fishing around as it is so fast and furious. www.TheMightyFish.com 509-255-0455

fishing 2-3 hours at first light is best for my schedule and for that reason i fish topwater almost every day. it is the witching hour for topwater. my most productive "big fish" plug last year was the 3 1/8 oz gibbs pencil with the flat bottom. that thing dances in a class of its own when there is some current and chop! i get about half a season out of them before they look like driftwood so keep that in mind because they're not cheap. my most productive plug by sheer volume and disregarding fish size was the yo zuri "topknock pencil," which is actually a spook. 1 oz, 10 bucks, just switch out the hardware and hang on. i have one of those outcasts, the "long cast" which i believe is what you're holding. 4-5 oz, 10" and gorgeous finish, caught my pb bluefish on that thing in some serious winds out of the north. they dance amazingly but you need a fairly long and moderate rod. FYI they're 40 [!!] bucks and i wouldn't intentionally throw them at bluefish! finally i want to mention what is my personal "favorite" way to fish topwater, a jack of all trades which catches giants on a hard feed as well as finnicky bigs or timid smalls, and even casts well; the medium-large sized thru-wired spook. after you call out their attention with a pencil without any luck, switch to a big spook. 6-7+ inches, 1.5-2+ oz, thru wire. nothing gets a long follow like a big spook. poombah makes the best spooks in this class for my taste. RM smith makes a good one, too. i bent out his vmc / RASCO hardware on a MOOSE on the jetty, and moved onto decoy splits and mustad hooks from now on with that class of plug because they catch fish that necessitate it. another variation on this class of spook is the doc, which is really the lure that started it all with big spooks and which was initially a musky plug. main difference is the rattle. i love the "lil doc," 7-8 inches, 3ish oz, and the loudest knock of any plug i own. casts like a boot compared to a wooden spook, so maybe use that one from the boat.

What length rod should we bring ?? 10’ ,11’
@GooseHummock3 жыл бұрын
10 feet is the smallest we'd go. 10-6 to 11' is the sweet spot. Anything over 12 and you look like a jabroni!!
