Conquering the extreme points of the country is a proud milestone for travel enthusiasts. In addition to the four extremes of East, West, South, and North, backpackers often mention a point that marks the northeasternmost tip of the country - Sa Vi Cape.
Sa Vi Cape belongs to Tra Co ward, Mong Cai city, Quang Ninh province, possessing extremely special marks on the map of Vietnam. This is where the first line on the S-shaped map is placed; is the starting point for our country's 3,260km long coastline. This is also the end of the border between Vietnam and China, which spans 1,406 km (starting at milestone 0 at A Pa Chai, Dien Bien province). What's also interesting is that Sa Vi Cape is also the easternmost point of the North, the place that receives the earliest sunlight on land in this area.
Road to Sa Vi Cape.
Sa Vi Cape is about 13km from Mong Cai city center. From Mong Cai, you go straight on Tran Nhan Tong street, pass the intersection with the tourist symbol Tra Co - Binh Ngoc and then keep running along Trang Vi street, going to the end of the road is Sa Vi cape. The road from Mong Cai to Sa Vi is quite smooth, paved and runs smoothly. On both sides of the road, there is a stretch of green mangrove forest next to the slowly drifting Ka Long stream.
If traveling from Ha Long city along Highway 18 to Mong Cai, it will take about 3 and a half hours; If you follow the Van Don - Mong Cai highway, it's only about 2 hours.
Admire the landmark of the Fatherland.
Sa Vi Cape, also known as Got Cape, is located at 21 degrees 29'33" North latitude, 108 degrees 4'5" East longitude. This location is marked by a coordinate marker with 2 sides recording different content. If visitors stand facing the North, they will see the face of a landmark with the name "Trang Vi". If you stand facing the South, you will face the side with the distance to Ca Mau cape. It's just as simple as that, but when you touch this special milestone, you will feel the pride and sacredness spreading. It is touching when the distance between the two countries seems to shorten, the appearance of the country appears very close and dear.
Next to it is a relief of three green casuarina trees, also known as poplar trees, above which is recorded the famous poem "From Tra Co poplar forest to Ca Mau mangrove forest" affirming the length of the country by poet To. Huu.
From the landmark, go about 20m further to the end of the road is the border belt. Stop here and look out to see the dark sand of Tra Co beach and the green casuarina forest. At low tide, a strip of sand emerges here, curving like a dragon's tail. That is the origin of the name "Sa Vi". Right at the mouth of the Bac Chakra River in the distance is milestone 1378 located on Dau Got island. The special feature of milestone 1378 is not only that it is located in the middle of immense water waves, but this is also the last milestone of the Vietnam - China border. If you want to go to 1378, visitors must go through procedures to request permission from the Border Guard Command of Quang Ninh province, then Tra Co border guard station will arrange to take them to visit the landmark.
Near Sa Vi Cape is the 16,000 m2 Sa Vi Border Promotion Information Cluster, built from 2009 to 2013. The work bearing the national symbol in this border area was awarded the "Sustainable Tourism Product" award. Sustainable Urban ASEAN 2020”.
The highlight of the project is the central area with the image of Tra Co poplar tree. This tree has stood firmly against the wind and rain to protect Tra Co for many generations, so it is considered to represent the durability and longevity of the land and people here. Inside the building are giant 27m high poplar leaves cast in permanent concrete, plated with a layer of zinc on the surface to withstand Sa Vi's harsh weather. There are a total of 8 leaves arranged side by side in a circle, strong gray color reaching straight up to the sky, standing tall against the waves and wind.
Surrounding and protecting the poplar leaves is a concrete belt with a circumference of 200m and a height of 6m. The colored porcelain panel on it depicts images of Vietnamese cultural activities, with the Dong Son bronze drum in the middle. On the supporting pillars of the belt are sculptures of peanut birds and other traditional symbols. Seen from afar, the blend of Vietnamese cultural features has enhanced and protected the poplar leaves, which also protects the stability of the homeland. With this special and unique architecture, the building has become one of the symbols of Sa Vi, along with the coordinate landmark and the relief of the green poplar top.
