Today was another big day of overland travel on the motorbikes as we continued our journey up to Cape York. The 277km ride from Cooktown to Musgrave Station through Lakefield National Park was one of the toughest we've experienced yet, we thought we knew what corrugated road felt like before but we really got a taste of it today! The first part of the day we rode the motorbikes to Old Laura Homestead in Lakefield and stopped for a short break to stretch the legs and have a bite to eat, the track was challenging so far with creek crossings, tricky dirt sections and enough corrugation to snap the metal bracket holding Tina's P plate on! ...but we were still full of beans and excited about the rest of the ride to Musgrave. The second half of the day was filled with A LOT more corrugation, Jason had a small crash when he hit a patch of soft sand but no damage was done thankfully. The dirt road to Musgrave Station was a lot slower going than we'd anticipated and we realised we wouldn't be arriving until after dark even though we'd been on the road since 8am! The concentration and effort of riding so many hours had completely zapped our energy and we felt like we were running on fumes, eventually we limped into Musgrave station doing about 30km/hr to avoid hitting kangaroos in the pitch black of night, we both felt extremely relieved to be out of the saddle after 11 hours of off-road riding 😌😌
Tomorrow we'll continue our adventure up the Cape York Peninsula to The Tip of Australia!

Originally from Sydney, Australia, we met in 2005 and have been married since 2012. We've both always loved to travel, we started a small web development business together almost 10 years ago so we could travel around the world while working remotely. We love adventure travel and learning through doing, we went on a one year overland cycle touring and camping trip back in 2013 through Asia and Europe with zero experience and it turned out to be one of the most exciting and memorable times of our lives. Since then we've always wanted to do something that big and adventurous again but haven't gotten around to it until now. We got the idea for a motorcycle trip around Australia when the pandemic hit and the borders all closed, neither of us had seen much of "our own backyard" yet so we thought this would be the perfect opportunity to do another overland trip. Neither of us had any motorcycle touring experience but we weren't going to let a small detail like that hold us back! So Tina got her motorcycle learner license 😲 then we bought Arnie and Franco (our Royal Enfield Himalayans) and hit the road! 🏍️🏍️ We started this travel vlog for a bit of fun and to have something to look back on and relive the adventure of our glory days when we're old and grey, and to share our experiences with friends and family. Thanks for watching! 😊

I've been riding for over 35 years. So I'm finding watching you guys really cute. Making all the errors we made when we were 17. I really admire you two for just going and having a crack. Pro tip. Go over every nut and bolt to ensure everything is tight. Those roads will loosen more than the muffler heat shield.
@TinaandJason
@TinaandJason 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip Marty, we've been checking the bolts on the pannier racks and things we mounted ourselves but not other parts of the bike, we'll start going over everything from now on. That's one (tiny) step closer to knowing what we're doing! 😂

That was a looong day! It wasn't fun riding that track in the dark but we really wanted to get to Musgrave station, those last few kms were slow going at 20-30km/hr. Needed a drink to calm the nerves at the end 😂

Thanks Michael, we both decide where to put the drone and I (Jason) do most of the flying atm, but we do mostly stationary shots, simple fly overs or pre-sets so there isn't too much flying involved.
