Cape York's BRUTAL Old Coach Road • Which 4x4 is towed away?!

Check out Graham's write up on this adventure on the 4WD Action website: www.4wdaction.com.au/cape-york...
Cape York is unarguably the number one 4WDing hotspot in Oz, and for good reason - with cracking tracks like the Tele that are accessible to everyone, the Cape is the perfect adventure location.
For those willing to dig a little deeper however, the Cape takes adventure to a whole new level of gnarly, and the perfect example is the Old Coach Road between Maytown and Laura. This track is a brutal challenge, regardless of whether you’re running a 4WD with a 2in lift and 31s or a twin locked beast on 35s! From rock steps the size of a car, to ruts that’ll test the flex of even the most articulate trucks, this track is the ultimate Cape York challenge!
Have Shauno and Graham bitten off more than they can chew? The answer is a definite yes! With insane recoveries, breakages that have them calling for a flatbed from Cairns and more wheel lifts than you’ve ever seen before, this is off-road adventure at its very best!

Good show for the 80 series Cruiser! It is more than 18 years older than anyone of the other vehicles and most probably the first breakdown in its life.... Got an 80 myself. 21 years old this year and never had a breakdown (touch wood)!

LOL, we did this track on our own (with my girlfriend) in a rental 4x4 hightop bushcamper with zero 4WD experience. We headed the wrong direction after the 2012 solar eclipse. It took us like 9 hours to drive the roughly 70km from Maytown to Laura :-) I almost broke down in tears a couple of times. Good times.

Thanks for this guys - loved it. I did the OCR last year in my 2014 D-max my cousin was in a Prado. The D-max chugged along with out a hitch. We got a bent rim on the Prado and had to do a wheel change on a very steep hill, but nothing we couldn't handle with a bit of brute force and the help of a winch to secure the vehicle. We went the opposite way to you from Jowalbinna in a very long day (12 hours return). It was great to see the tracks. I recognised a few of those jump ups and rock shelfs. Well done, enjoy your work.

Graham's always banging on about the traction control but I've heard others say you should turn it off when 4wding & my Hilux turns it off when in low range.
@NS-hs6lt
@NS-hs6lt 6 жыл бұрын
Mick A people mix up traction control and Electronic Limited Slip Differential. Traction control, at least on my US Nissan Frontier Pro-4x, is for ice, dirt roads, etc. for street or highway speeds to prevent spin outs and losing control. It steals power when it senses slippage. Not useful at all for 4x4 tracks. The ELSD functions more like a locker. The traction control must be turned off for the ELSD to work.
