We embark on a journey away from sight, into the depths of time, into the mysterious underground worlds. We will witness traces of thousands of years of life in the labyrinth-like tunnels and rooms hidden underground in Kaymaklı Underground City, the largest of Cappadocia's known underground cities, and Derinkuyu Underground Cities, the deepest.
In Kaymaklı Underground City, which is the first stop of our journey, we will try to find answers to various questions that come to our mind, such as who excavated these cities and why, how many people stayed inside, how they got air and how they met their needs, as we progressed through narrow, inclined passages under low ceilings that required us to crouch and even crawl from time to time. . The second stop of our trip is Derinkuyu Underground City, which resembles a deep well with a depth of 85 meters. We will go down 8 layers below the ground to see the church, wine warehouses and burial chambers built by carving soft tuffs. Finally, having come this far, we will leave ourselves to the mystical atmosphere of the Gümüşler Monastery, which is said to be home to the only fresco of the smiling Virgin Mary in the world, built by carving into the rocks.
