One of the most remarkable things about Lake Titicaca I got to witness is its floating Islands & people who live there! There are about 4,000 people living on the islands in the middle of the lake- when a family unit wants to break away and start their own family unit - they make & create their own island 🏝️ . The most marriageable men can weave & they show their intention to support & protect their future bride by gifting her a hat 👒 - She will take it to the lake & test to see if the lake finds him worthy… - if his hat can hold the water & if she also chooses him - she will wear the hat publicly - When she wears the long hat publicly the village knows she’s promised to the gentleman who weaved it Young ladies wear short hats, married women have long hats I was blessed to be able to visit Lake Titicaca, and the gentleman that are the most eligible men known to the village are the ones that can weave! - the village all come together & support each other. It was a beautiful culture witness- Above my granddaughters crib is a beautiful bright colored mobile from the floating islands of Peru 🇵🇪 -
