He's not talking about the kinetic energy absorption that Shuri developed. Vibranium itself can absorb energy as demonstrated in The Avengers where Cap's shield absorbs the hit from Thor's Mjölnir.

@@Phil_The_Dead Indeed, it's all in the name "Vibranium", the Element itself absorbs Kinetic, aka vibration, hense the name Vibranium, Energy naturally. Shuri just enhances it even more by giving it the ability to absorb more, and store it, where as normal Vibranium would just release it instantly and waste a lot of energy.

Vibranium is completely vibration absorbent, hence the name vibranium. Shuri just advanced it to hold the energy and make it so it’s able to release the energy at the same force it was given.

vibranium itself is kinetic absorption. see The First Avenger, Peggy shoots the shield, the bullets hit then fall. they don't bounce or ricochet.

I think I found an easter egg: So in one scene, we see Bucky in Bucharest. There is an ambulance driving right past him and as I listened to the siren, I realized that it sounded like the melody in the beginning of Civil War: "Siberian Overture" by Henry Jackman. Tony wasn't trying to shoot Bucky with the missile, he was trying to close the door to prevent him from escaping. He didn't miss. He had other clear opportunities to kill Bucky and Steve during the fight, but he didn't take them. He wanted to hurt, not to kill, imo. It's also possible that the arc reactor firing off when Bucky tried to take it off was an automatic failsafe measure: something automatic, not something that Tony was controlling.
