Yamamoto fell for the same thing we did. He fell for the heat of the moment, and didn't notice he was being bamboozled. Still, I always felt he was the protagonist of a previous anime, like before Bleach there was Yamamoto's story and he was the MC.

Alot of people are just now realizing that Genryusai Yamamoto is that nigga. Niggas didn't see what he did to WonderWeiss a nigga created just for Yamamoto or more specifically to seal Yamamoto Shikai. My boy Yama said I been the strongest shinigami for over a thousand years I don't need my zanpactou to defeat you. This is the only time other than Soifon and Yourichi that we seen a soul reaper use hands instead of a sword. Yama is the goat no question

The wild thing was, Yamamoto didn't move after getting hit by Chojiro's Bankai, not because he was shook, but because he was so pissed that it was so weak when Driscoll used it. He was like "How dare you make my friend's Bankai look this trash!"

The fake Ywach that he fought was just as powerful as he was 1000 years ago. Yamamoto got way stronger since then but he thought Ywach didn't. He fell for the "This is only the first phase of the boss fight" trick.

He didn't fight a clone, he fought someone who could perfectly copy another person, even having their memories. Yama didn't know the difference because there really wasn't any way for him to know. Royd Loyd was just as strong as yhwach, that's why yama couldn't tell the difference.

If Old Man Yama actually did ask the greatest support Orihime to get a new arm like Ywach suggested then Yamamoto would still be able to throw hands long enough to have the invasion end by being saved by the bell.

Personally I think this is how Yama was tricked. The copy yhwatch's ability badically copies Yhwatch down to the smallest of details to where even if you were to see both of them standing side by side you couldnt tell the difference except the copy wouldnt have access to the almighty while the real one would. Also you could also make the argument that Yama in present day is a alot less ruthless and sharp then he was back when he face Yhwatch the first time around. So the copy would be good enough to where Yama couldnt tell the difference

the fake yhwach had all the abilities and memories of the real yhwach. so its understandable why yamamoto didnt notice the difference + yamamoto was feeling rage because of the destruction on soul society and the fact that he had just finished avenging his lieutenant. yamamoto will always be HIM and my favourite bleach character. Yamamoto held back his power to not destroy soul society. The king of the quincies was the only one who could seal his bankai that is why Yamamoto is still stronger then every Quincy even though they downplayed him way to much in the series
