Recently picked up a XR1 lite having no experience with video capture or streaming but I am really impressed with it overall. It is obvious but it’s night and day between the PS5s internal capture card.

I wish more capture cards supported recording directly to an SD card. I have the Hauppauge HD PVR Pro 60, and as a competitive smash player, being able to record my sets or friendlies and then watch it back has been extremely helpful, to the point where I have friends asking me what type of capture card to get for that reason alone.

I am currently a bit hesistant to get a new card as i just recently swapped to linux and basically all capture card software is not supported at all for it. Quite sad is that ive got a elgato mk2 4k which is now useless and i have to use my 4k cam link to get atleast my webcam working.. So it wouldve been amazing if the nzxt card wouldve been a pcie card with Linux support, as a real alternative as "technically" the differences between the cards are super minor nowadays and its just price, company and case that are really different.. :/

Linux in "the media space" in a nutshell. Manfucaturers don't want to support Linux because "the support cost" is like 10X - 100X (because there are so many distros you have to support). There are simply WAAAAY too much Distros, Kernels, GUI's like KDE etc. Linux can succeed if you put it in a "Single Box" (like Steam Deck) or Android, but not Linux as a whole. Imagine you employ some engineers who do write your drivers for like $150K (a person) a year for Windows. To Support Linux you have to upgrade your staff by like 10X. We are talking Millions of Dollars for 0.0001% users of 2%?? market share. On the other Hand you have a couple hundert thousand dollars for literally millions of users.

Still desperately hunting for an analog capture card that takes 240p ypbpr/component inputs without shitting the bed. So far there's like a grand total of four, and they're several years old; and I'd rather suck start a shotgun than to get a modern capture card for 250+ that may or may not work with a Retrotink in a desperate attempt to capture the footage I need. I refuse to believe the startech usb3hdcap, Micomsoft XCapture-1, Datapath Vision, and Epiphan DVI2USB 3.0 are the only options. Most of which are well over 300+.

@kostyabelykh98662 жыл бұрын
Speaking of innovation, i'd like to see in future internal capture cards with additional features baked in. Like capture card and NVME adapter for one (or maybe two SSDs). This may greatly help with utilization of 4x\8x or even 16x pcie-e ports on motherboards. Especially now, when we have bifrucation as common on consumer boards, this will eliminate need of pci-e switches, which add additional latency.
@EposVox2 жыл бұрын
That would be very neat
@somebrains5431 Жыл бұрын
Very few consumer boards allow bifurcation of cpu pci-e lanes. Assuming all resources are equal is where you’ve gone wrong with respects to latency.

I find the NZXT Cam software interesting. So, it can exactly tell the signal passing through *only* the capture card with it's HDMI ports? Cause if so, that's pretty dope. I've been thinking of upgrading my brother's capture setup. And he is still used to using older software and hardware. Which is great when wanting to understand older technology. However, when I start talking about Windows 11(after he just got used to Windows 10), Linux being more user friendly, AMD is way WAY better now, and it's better to use open software rather than proprietary software essential being using OBS rather than Elgato software which crashes during mid recording. It's just a lot of tech mumbo jojo that if you are interested in and in the know. Then it doesn't confuse people like you or me. BUT, my brother is not a huge tech nerd like me. He enjoys video gaming. Capturing and sharing it with just us buddies online. And he likes doing more completionist and speedrunning gaming. So, having software that helps in identifying whether your using the correct cables or not. That's awesome. Still wouldn't get him this NZXT capture cards. But, I would love software built in like that into everyone and not be forced on you like Elgato's software.
@TheNerd2 жыл бұрын
Yeah but in the Streaming and Recording Space: AMDs Encoders can not hold a candle to NVENC, which is why like 99.999% of all streamers use NVidia Hardware. Also: I REALLY REALLY tried to use Linux, but the recording World is optimized for Windows. Sometimes even simple tasks are A PAIN. The Linux Eco System has it's advantages but the biggest problem is, that if you commit to Linux as a manufacturer, you have to be compatible with 10000000 Distros which is (in terms of money) the death sentence and the main reason why Linux is never gonna be popular (on the client side) with manufacturers. Some Video Game Companies that do Support Linux have to put in like 10-100 times the money to Support it, compared to Windows. That should tell you everything you need to know. I started using Linux with Debian 2.1 and I can not recommend it in "the media" space. It is a very good Server OS for the web and has it's place there (rightfully so) but other than that... I mean... Simple task for this week: Install Microsoft Office 365 on Linux (yes the Cloud Version). (not the old ones like 2016) Good Luck my friend. See ya in 2 Weeks.

Whichever company brings out the best capture software with 4K60 capability takes my business. Elgato's software has disappointed me hundreds of times over the past 9 years I've had their products with how many clips I've recorded only to end up being ruined. I have to record on the SD Card only with the 4K60 S+ ($400 btw), which the SD card has lower quality and worse colors compared to the software which doesn't even work anyways, not to mention the extra hassle. Infuriating to me. Hoping something could eventually allow me to ditch them
@EposVox2 жыл бұрын
Well the software inherently can’t have better quality than the SD because it literally just pulls the already-encoded file from the device to your PC with the same encoder. Sounds like settings just aren’t great on the SD card setup. But yes 4KCU is not great - but no one else other than AVerMedia wants to make an app

I keep trying to move my damn channel forward but nothing seems to work that well. I wanna capture 4k 60, HDR and capture audio too. Problem is, my laptop can't really run the capture software too long without it practically overheating and bursting into flames ha. The Series X internal capture card is good and all, but sometimes it has these weird artifacts or something in the actual video recordings itself. And then sometimes the audio is COMPLETELY out of sync. And then on top of that, you can't record your voice with the internal one. So idk what the solution is anymore.

May I ask a question. I started using a Sony ZV-1 a few months ago. I connected it to Elgato 4K capture card with a short wire and it worked fine but wanted some distance so I bought a longer HDMI wire however it stopped working. Are there any limitations on wire lengths for HDMI (the one I bought is 10 metres long). Micro hdmi to HDMI.
@EposVox2 жыл бұрын
10 meters SHOULD be fine, but you run into tons of quality control issues with longer cables. Putting a powered splitter halfway might help, just don’t use the second output since you don’t need it

@@GeorgeFromCy there are 2 issues i see. One, your camera is low power dc device which cannot push strong enough signal to run 10m distance. Second, your cable must of good quality.
