Capture One has just released the new AI Masking tool, and it is mind-blowing! You can now mask any part of an image in a matter of seconds.

Simply hover the new AI Select cursor over any part of the image, and you'll see the generated AI mask for this area. If you need to mask all the elements at once, you can draw a box around them, and AI will create a mask for the whole subject.
Also, you can zoom in on an image to mask the tiniest image details, such as eye whites, iris, or even reflection in the eye.
Moreover, you can now select a group of images and mask their main subjects or backgrounds in a single click, like this. These AI masks can be saved in styles, allowing you to quickly color grade image backgrounds or adjust the main subject in your shot.
By the way, I've prepared a set of free styles with AI masks, and later in this video, I'll share them with you.
So, the AI masks are just fantastic, but the new Capture One release brings even more features, such as the Snap-to-eye Focus tool, ReTether, new reset options, the ability to duplicate layers, and various other improvements.
I think this is the best Capture One release in years, and I have prepared for you a detailed overview of all the new features.

can you make a selection in capture one and then somehow edit just that selection in photoshop to do compositing?

This is amazing new version of Capture One Pro, I love to use this software always the results are impressive much better as Lightroom. The best will be when Capture One Pro will get Compost editing Panel where should be all functions as Photoshop has, then Adobe photoshop for me will no sense and many editors will need just Capture One Pro. So Capture One Pro team we need one great platform for editing Raws, Colorgrading, Compost editing with precise retouching and printing setups and projects. Than will be Capture One Pro the best software for Photographers, retouchers, printing shops.... What do you think about?

5:30 "Really accurate mask": Part of her top was selected as well. Easy to fix in this case, but in general imperfections will occur in messy regions which will be very difficult to tweak. I've seen other video demonstrating the technology on typical images and the results weren't great. Overall it looks good but when looks a bit closer, a number of issues become apparent. Nice when it works for particular images, but not so useful if it fails for typical images.

agree the masks it generates on complex subjects are rather sloppy and need a lot of manual intervention or fail completely with for example tress against a sky but adobe is not perfect either but manages to have no difficulty with sky selections. guess why mr. grover avoided any of that kind of landscape images they normally use to promote their software....

Thank you! I have two laptops: a MacBook Pro 2018 and a MacBook Pro M1 2021. Of course, MacBook Pro 2018 handles AI masking pretty slowly, but in general, it's ok. I would not buy a new laptop just for AI masks; they are not SO slow.

You can create a gradient, rasterize it, and than adjust it with AI Select/AI Eraser

Great video of a great software. I would like to add Capture One mobile to my workflow but I’m not sure if there’s a way to copy pictures tethered to iPad into an external drive. Is it possible to get those pictures out from the iPad beside the cloud upload?

Thank you! Do you mean to replace the background with a new image? Capture One has no such capabilities in general, so, unfortunately, AI masks can't help with this.

only for 250+ euro with discount 😆 .. It's for real BS what there doing. Masking and Subject masking is a Standard in every software so BS there letting people like us pay for it.! I'm Out and all in to Luminar Neo there 100% on par and maybe even better. and with Ai stuff and masking a Lot better.! just like LR or PS

sadly this updated shows how far behind adobe c1 is in regard of ai masking and layer handling. c1 posted on their website that they have no interest in adding the ability to combine different types of masks and also an add and subtract feature but this is what makes the adobe masking tools so powerful. also the ai masking quality alone is not on the same level as adobe and needs a lot of manual corrections and guess why he do not show masking of tress / sky......

When you write this, you need to always take into account the cost factor of Adobe products. You do not have the ability to own your copy of Adobe programs, because in fact they give you programs for rent. While you pay, you use. When you stopped paying, you were left without programs. Capture One I buy and it's mine forever. And if the next update does not really change something from what I need in work, then I miss it and save. Also, how Capture One interprets the color of raw images and how it works with colors is unattainable for Lightroom. So Capture One is the best solution for its money on the market. 🙂

You can adjust any existing mask with AI Select/AI Eraser, including gradients (after rasterizing). At 7:40, I'm showing AI erasing of the sky.

@@AlexOnRAW I know but this is far away from what is possible with adobe software and it is destructive, adobe moved the game to an absolut fantastic level which c1 is not even close. also the whole masking interface is just so outdated and cluttered, they also failed to bring everything related to masking together but I´m really surprised how bad it performs with trees or other complex structures

And if you purchased the Software mid 2023 your getting a Banger deal of a other 360+ Euro for a software update that is a Basic thing is any Software for a long long time.! To bad Capture One is trying to hard to F over people so there going to leave to other software that is on par of maybe even better in some settings. Thanks C1 for the last year but i'm out. i did do a combi of the C1 and Luminar Neo. But i'm going all over to Luminar Neo where in the beginnen i was thinking about going C1 only. And no i don't want there Subscriptions i like to have the software for me. And if there is a update and it cost 20 - 50 euro it's all good but even with discount code 250+ euro for a small industry standard update No Way.!

@@MaxLemesh I used to be a loyal customer of CO until they sold the company some years ago, and I predicted they would shift to a monthly plan. I kept my CO 20 running because the core features didn't change much until this new AI release. However, most of these features are already included in the Adobe photography combo (LR, PS, ...) that costs half the monthly fee. For me, the price is a dealbreaker since I don't make money with photography. As for those who do, well, good for them.

Capture One it its prime was really good. Recently with all the chaos and finincial problems, it has lost its focus which is photography. Adding "AI" to a word does not make it competitive. The masking feature looks promising but seems so basic.

How can we apply batch editing with AI masks without creating a style?? When you create an AI subjects at same time on more than 1 photo, it only creates the masks, but after that there's no way to sync adjustments between them

Currently, AI masks don't support batch editing, but I'm pretty sure it will be added soon because the core mechanic of this already exists.
