I’ve been on a mission to make our car camping experience more comfortable for when we’re caught in a heavy rain or stuck stealth camping in a Walmart parking lot. We’re not quite ready for full on van life yet so for now I’m making the Honda CRV (a relatively compact SUV) or weekend warrior vehicle. at this point im thinking of doing things like that myself instead of buing me a camper van or the sorts and just keep using my current vehicle, since i got almost the same layout! And projects like that do make so much more fun ^^. Thanks and hope you keep doing more :)

I used two adjustable shower rods and a under bed storage container. It fit perfectly behind the back seat and still room to recline and high enough for leg room. I velcro it together and Wala. A storage container/shelf. It stores my electric skateboard, hot logic plug in hot cooker, collapsible cooler. Instead of a roof cargo box.

Ask your wife if I can come over. No way I can build this. I will pay you. I have a Honda CRV, too. I did make a video where I use the cargo cover and I turned it into a shelf, and it actually works very well, but I like yours more. BTW, I rewatched your video earlier where you make the fan for the sunroof. I've decided to give it a try. I purchased the fan through your link. So that was me. All I can do is try. After I rewatched it, I checked to see if you had any new videos up and was so happy to see this one. You really need to do more! I tried to make a sliding table and it was a disaster.

Thank you for the fun drama, it lessens the frustration. I don't have a CRV, but a Tucson with one entire oddity of a curve around the inside of the car and down the trunk sides. 🙄 I like the idea of a crossbar. (You do know you made the front of a sled, right? 🤣) My only question is how did you hook up the device? Nice work, love it!

Loved your video! I'm doing my own Suzuki Jimny (JB74) car camping setup and it inspired me to do some DYI myself hahaha I already crafted my own solution to mount my iPad to the car ceiling using some aluminum bars and motorcycle brackets, but loved the little table setup you created here, I will definitely do something similar to my Jimny.

You Rock!!!!! Awesome shelf, I’m blown away!!! Ingenious design, so perfect!! Your window storage is equally impressive as well!! I also created a window covering with a second purpose, mine is made of 1/2” plywood and fills the third row side window of a Grand Caravan. It supports a 12 volt 19” tv/dvd player, mounted on a swinging wall mount. The same way you used the plastic tabs to hold it in place, I used a custom trimmed 24” framing square to hold all the weight in place.

My cellphone holder is simple. Wire hangers. The phone has a cover I glued the pop socket to and the pop socket fits as if it's made for it. Don't like the angle bend a little poof just the way you need it. I have wire hanger phone holders anyplace I think I need one.

Hi Matt, new subscriber here. I own a 2018 Honda CR-V and have been looking for ideas such as this for my camping setup. How much of a modification is needed on your design to accommodate the dimensions of a 5th gen CR-v? Love your camping platform 2.0 also! I'm thinking of building a single bed version but with a full width drawer setup with heavy duty drawer slides for a slide out stove/kitchen.....

wel done it is an inspiring idea probably i will built one exactly the same thank for sharing .,by the way do you have any idea how to build a propane Heather with a heat exchanger outside the car with a flexible insulated pipe with computer fan to bring heat from outside to inside .using propane heather inside the car will bring a lot of water vapor inside the car .

When you attach the arms to the shelf top, how did you line up the arms to the top? And it looks like you had it sitting on another 1/2" piece of wood, is that just to give it a lip for aesthetics? I'm trying to replicate this myself

I set the platform on a 1/2” piece of plywood to center the faceplate on the platform and to get the arms to have the same lip depth. Then to align the arms forward and back you match the back curve of the arm with where the back curve of the platform starts. Hope that makes sense. The lip hides the LED lights so it’s a nice soft glow from the inside. It also keeps things from sliding off the shelf.

Depends. We have a pretty sturdy cooler these days so if we're not in bear country we leave it locked outside. If there are bears around we put it in the front seat. If just barely fits.
